Doctor Han Lee:
In reply to Seth Bullock (msg # 36):

"Marshall, how could you be guilty for the hell that visited us? I don't believe you to have the knowledge or the capabilities to do something like that." Han says with a kind smile.

"They came after me. They saw me as a threat and attacked everything I care about. If they had just been after me in my capacity as a Marshal, they only would have attacked the jail. Instead they came after Martha, and William, and Sol. This was personal for them. And I haven't the faintest idea why."

Han frowned, "Evil seeks to induce fear. Killing you would be nothing. Destroying everything about the one man who tries to establish law, that would send a message. I think the target may have been just because of your position. But if it was not then leaving town may not be helpful. The evil may follow you.  You need to interrogate the cult leader. That Reverend person."

Bullock looks over at his wife. "You may be right. Him and that Princess of Worms. And then...then they will learn what it is to try and break a man and fail." He says. "Besides, I also need to get Jackie out of custody. No one is going to intimidate her."

He stands up. Martha murmers something. He bends over and gives her a quick kiss. "I'll see you soon. I have something to take care of. I love you."

In reply to Nat Love (msg # 22):

Jack Boudreaux was dressed in his usual black suit and stetson. Having grown up in New Orleans he was accustomed to being among other negros, this bar was a welcome sight.

"The name is Jack. My friends call me Black Jack. Nice place, is this your joint?" Jack said.

As Jack spoke to the barkeep he overheard the other men speaking with the man he had come here to find.

The barkeep grins. "Yep! My pride and joy." he offers his hand to jack to shake. "The name's Nat Love, though some folks 'round here call me Deadwood Dick. Use either at your pleasure."

In reply to James Wilder (msg # 63):

Zek was listening intently to Maddox's conversation. However, the last thing the fella hiring him said made his cold ear pick up.

quote:
"A pistol, it has ... personal value more than anything else."

That made him raise an eyebrow. Why take all that risk for a pistol? Even if it was the one your family handed down or some such? The only one he had heard recently talking about special pistols was Wild Bill. Zek had gone looking for a way to those very pistols-which were indeed very special. Could this be the same?

OOC-Notice check of 4,1 if that is enough.

In reply to James Wilder (msg # 63):

Maddox raises an eyebrow. "You want to trek all the way to Mount Rushmore, through Indians, bandits and unfriendly wildlife, for a pistol? Sentimental value or not, that seems like a fool's errand to me."

"I'm given to understand," Jimmy says, "that whenever the Sioux catch someone on their land illegally, they strip them of all their gear and then toss it by the wayside, correct?"

"Y-eees." Maddox says. "But I'm having a hard time understanding this. Why is this pistol so important to you? There has to be more to this than it being an heirloom, and if I'm to be your guide, I need to understand just what I'm getting into."

Re: Chapter 5.1:  Deadwood Smoldering ((Deadwood PCs))

In reply to Maddox (msg # 65):

James drums his fingers on the table for a moment. He eyes the man across the table for that moment before speaking. "You ever here of Marshal Joseph Wilder, out of Arizona?" He pauses to see if the name garners any recognition before continuing. "He's my father, and it was his pistol. So when I tell you that I want that pistol back, don't think of it as petty trinket or bobble. Regard it as an item of great value me such that it causes me great pain to not have it with me. Its pain on a level which I would rather burn this town to the ground than leave that pistol to rust out in the wilderness such as it is." His words come in an even matter of fact tone, which Jimmy recognizes as when Wilder is dead serious.

"Now if you won't help me, then kindly point me in the direction of someone who will."

In reply to James Wilder (msg # 67):

"Ah." Maddox says. "Forgive me. I didn't mean to be rude or dismissive, see you, I simply wanted to know the particulars. The road is dangerous, after all, and it's not just the Sioux. There's a band of outlaws calling themselves The Wild Bunch that have made some bloody raids against miners and prospectors, and they've grown even more murderous since that bastard Carter joined up with them. But family is important. And if this gun is so precious that you'd wager your life against all the dangers of the Black Hills to get it back, then of course I'll help you."

Re: Chapter 5.1:  Deadwood Smoldering ((Deadwood PCs))

Zek was getting tired of waiting. Was Maddox putting on another show, trying to appear as Mr Pure and Noble to take another sucker for a ride? Maybe to shoot them in the back, and take thier things? Or did he have another horrible supernatural force waiting that required 'feeding'?

Zek looked around at the crowd, and wondered if he could get the man outside somehow. Maybe making Maddox's potential employers aware of his betrayal might get them on Zek's side-but he rather doubted it. However, just jumping Maddox would certainly get everyone against him.

No, the best way might be to play it steady-and not give in to his fury. While at the same time getting the two other men at the table aware of Zek's legit grude. At the very least they may stay out of any tussle that Maddox and him end up getting into.

He signaled at waitress, and got a drink-but not for him. He walked over and placed it in front of Maddox.

"I got you a drink for old times, Maddox." He growled. "Here is your 10 dollars back...I owe you that." He put the money in front of the man as well. "Now, how about you give me what you owe...and tell me why you tried to kill me!? How about any other people you brought to that house!? How about you telling me if Jane is even alive!?"

Maddox looks up at Zek, and at first he seems confused. "What the bloody...?" He starts, then he frowns. Fury curls his face into a snarl. "You." he says, his voice dripping with venom. "You sheep-shagging, cock-sucking mother fucker. One. Hour. I told you to wait one bloody hour, and when I got back, what did I find? It wasn't you, and it wasn't bloody Jane, that's for sure. You ran for the nearest saloon and let that murdering bitch escape justice, didn't you? How long did you actually wait before getting bored and skipping, eh? Ten minutes? Five? And what the fuck are you talking about? Is Jane alive? What kind of fucking question is that? If you'd actually done as I asked and watched her, you'd know that, wouldn't you?"

His hand is below the table, out of sight...

"House?" Jimmy asks politely. "What house?"

14:29, Today: Maddox rolled 7,2 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,2. Agility.
14:30, Today: James Lonefeather rolled 3,11 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,(6+5)11. Agility.))

Jimmy leaps backwards as Zek lunges, kicking the table up and sending whiskey and plates of food flying into Maddox and Zek's faces. He rolls out of his chair and comes up in a crouch with a gatling pistol in his hand, barrel spinning.

"Hold it! Both of you!" he shouts. The spinning barrel of his gatling pistol makes an ominous vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl~ sound.

((OOC: James does a "hold my beer" trick and attempt to use the table as an Agility Trick against both Zek and Maddox, while using his Quick Draw edge to get his Gatling pistol ready.

14:47, Today: James Lonefeather rolled 2,2 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2. Agility Trick. Nope. Spending a White Chip on his behalf.

14:48, Today: James Lonefeather rolled 7,3 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,3. white chip.

Zek, I'm going to need an Agility check from you.

Maddox is a master of Dirty Fighting, so he has a +2 bonus on his attempt to resist.
14:51, Today: Maddox rolled 4,7 using d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 2,5. Resist Trick. A tie, which defaults for the Defender in this case, which means Maddox gets out of the way.

When you finish your action, make sure to draw a card for your next turn's initiative. Like this:

Card for next round: 6C))

Zek, make your Agility roll against the Trick. Then I'll resolve the Grapple.

Zek tries to knock the food out if his face. However, it disoriented him enough for Maddox to get away from him. As the gun rattled, he glared at it and it's user. "This anit about you two. This man is a liar and worse. He set me up, and now he is covering it up."

Ooc-17:06, Today: Ezekiel Starkweather rolled 3,5 using d6,d6.

17:05, Today: Ezekiel Starkweather drew the single card: 8C using a deck of 54 cards.

"Do you think the army will give you trouble, Marshall?"
