Re: Chapter 5.1:  Deadwood Smoldering ((Deadwood PCs))

The soldiers grow closer...and it's immediately apparent that something is wrong. Their uniforms are stained black, and they have dead, empty eyes and rotting flesh!

"AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Becky shrieks as the dead soldiers charge up the stairs.

Two of them grab at Janet. "Colonel Custer requests your presence." One of them says.

The other two unlimber their Spencer Carbines and wave them at the folks at the top of the stairs. "This ain't none of your affair!" the skeletal soldier shouts.

((OOC: Fear check time! Janet, Logan, you get to make Fear Checks (-4 fear level, + grit) against horror. Von Stienhof, given you've faced them before but this is a bad situation to be facing them in, you also need to make a Fear check but it's against Fear/Nausea instead.

Becky, a Townsfolk with no training in the supernatural, actually rolls a 6 on her Guts check after the penalty, and passes. She still screams

Jackie Wells is rolling against Fear/Nausea--she's encountered the Black Regiment before, but finding them right here is unnerving. Jackie gets a 5 and passes.

The Black Regiment charge up the stairs and attempt to grab Janet. There are 4 of them, but only 2 can get at Janet at a time.

11:15, Today: The Black Regiment rolled 4,6 using d8+1,d8+1, rerolling max with rolls of 3,5. Grapple!

Janet, you need to make 2 Fighting checks to avoid being grabbed.

The other two use their action to draw their rifles and point them at the folk at the top of the stairs.

Card: 2S))

Turn Order:
The Black Regiment: KC
Freiherr von Stienhof: 10C
Jackie Wells: 7S
Logan West: 7D
Janet Weiss: 7C
Becky: 5D

I Need Janet to resolve the Grapple before I proceed, because it's important to know for the dead guys to complete their action.

OOC: Unshake?
13:19, Today: James Wilder rolled 5,1 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,1. Unshake. That'll do it

Wilder shook his head to clear the cobbwebs as he mechanically dumped the half-dozen spent shells out of his pistol and replaced them with fresh ones. The motion of the unloading and reloading was a blur. He shifted the gun back to fire but the shot goes rather wide.

OOC:
13:46, Today: James Wilder rolled -1,0 using d12-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 1,2. Shooting (-2MAP). MISS!
13:47, Today: James Wilder drew the single card: 6D using a deck of 54 cards. Initiative .

Janet raised her hands and screamed.  "My gods, they're dead!  Run for it!"  She grabbed Becky's arm and started dashing up the stairs.

OOC: Got a 9 and 10 for the grapple check.  Not sure if this breaks free or not, but if it does, Janet will run and hide behind Jackie and Logan.

11:26, Today: Janet Weiss rolled 4,4 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,4. Fear check.
11:24, Today: Janet Weiss rolled 6,10 using d4,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (4+2)6,(6+4)10. Grapple Check 2.
11:24, Today: Janet Weiss rolled 3,9 using d4,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,(6+3)9. Grapple Check 1.

As Janet feels the clawed, bony hands clutching her, flashes of being trapped beneath burning timbers, unable to move, unable to breath...and she feels terror, pure genuine terror, creeping into her. She needs to get OUT! She must get OUT!

((OOC: Yup, those are successes, though Janet doesn't get to move until her action.

However, the Fear check is modified by both The Fear level (-4) and your Grit (+3), which means you had a -1 penalty total on the check. That means your 4 is a 3, which is a Fail. Unless you spend a chip to modify it. If you don't the fear result I rolled takes effectimmediately.))

Nat Love calmly reaches beneath the bar, fishes out two shells, and glares at the Men in Black.

"I!" He shouts.

He cracks the breech.

"Have had!"

He slides the spent casings out.

"Enough!"

He slides the new cartridges home, and cocks back the hammers. He brings the gun up and sights along the barrel.

"Of YOU!"

{{BLAM! BLAM!}}

Two of the bandits vanish in puffs of greasy black smoke and wailing ghost rock.

((OOC: Nat Love is going to reload his gun and fire it again. He has Marksman (+2) and buckshot (+2), but he's got a Multi-Action Penalty (-2) and an Autofire Penalty (-2). One of his targets is a Medium range (-2).

12:50, Today: Nat Love rolled 4,4,3 using d8,d8-2,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,6,3. Shooting! Two hits.

Damage 1: 25
Damage 2: 13

Both of those are wounds, so two more Mibs go down.

At the sight of the Black Regiment soldiers Leopold merely raises an eyebrow.
"Have we not met before?"
He pulls his shiny peacemaker from his hip holster in one smooth motion and fires a single bullet into one of the undead clutching at Janet.

"You will excuse me, but I intend to talk to this woman first."

21:08, Today: Freiherr von Steinhof rolled 11 using 3d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 4,5,1. Peacemaker Damage.

The dead soldier disintegrates into mist. Jackie Wells lets loose with a shot from her gatling pistol, though only a single shot, which smacks the other skeletal soldier reaching for Janet.

"What he said." She says. "So I reckon we're makin' it our affair."

((OOC: Jackie lets off a single shot with her bolt gun.

13:27, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 4,1 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,1. Shooting! Hit.

Damage: 7, plus the soldier needs to roll Vigor or suffer Fatigue. No real damage, given it's toughness is 8.

James Lonefeather continues pouring fire on the Men in Black near Wilder. The two banidts go up in smoke...and it's a good thing, too, as Lonefeather's cylinders spin on empty.

"You alight, Wilder?" He asks.

Meanwhile, Seth Bullock also takes more shots at the bandits, this time at the one still slicing at Han Lee. It, too vanishes as he shoots it.

"Got 'em!" he says. "Lee, Cover me while I reload."

((OOC: James Lonefeather makes with the gatling pistol again. He'll need to reload after this shot.

13:37, Today: James Lonefeather rolled 8,6,5 using d10,d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 8,6,5. Rock and Roll! 2 hits, 1 raise.

Damage 1: 9
Damage 2: 9

Since both the Men he was aiming at were Shaken, they go down. And not a moment too soon.

Card: AC, QC.

Bullock moves to Double Tap the dude attacking Han Lee. He will also need to reload.

13:44, Today: Seth Bullock rolled 8,4 using d10+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of 7,3. Shooting! with Double Tap. hit and Raise

Damage: 15. That will take it out.

Card: 10C

That leaves 3 MiBs, all of whom are currently Shaken, two of which are Prone. There's also some Townsfolk who need medical attention before I roll Aftermath, if anyone wants to play healer))

Logan steeled his nerves against the presence of the undead below that he had dealt with many a time in the past, and took up a position to block any progress up the stairway past him from below. In one smooth motion drew out both Gatling pistols, holding one in each hand.

"You are attempting to interfere with a U.S. Marshals active investigation. Drop your weapons now and let's try this again." He announced loudly to the soldiers, hoping they didn't know that he knew that they were dead.

OOC:

Guts: 4

13:15, Today: Logan West rolled 2,4 using d6-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 3,5. Guts (-4 Fear Level, +3 Grit).

Agility: 7 - This is to draw both weapons on the same turn
