James isn't a vigilante - that would mean he has a sense of great good than himself.

Exactly - James has a vendetta. That two of the Marshals around are apparently fine with, for some reason. This upsets Maddox a lot, because he believes in things like democracy and due process, and maybe even the law.

Broaddale has no knowledge of this vigilantism, and I assure you, were he to know of this APPALLING and UNLAWFUL brand of justice, he would stand up and say that he is on vacation.

Well, I think you don't have your facts straight about that. Logan doesn't know Wilder or anything about his vendetta, so it would have been very hard for him to be fine with it. In fact, he was probably the only law man that wasn't ready to just let Wilder have his duel with Carter.

Also Matthew just got back, so again, not sure how he's approving of Wilder's vigilantism.

Or how Maddox who hasn't met them yet is upset with them about it.

Wilder was yelling about how he'd shoot anyone that got in his way when Maddox tried to convince Carter to surrender, though Logan might've managed to bugger off out of earshot by that point (if Logan was a vase of flowers, I'd have a far easier time keeping track of him).

[blink] Whoops, Cox is a Ranger, not a Marshal, isn't she? It's the black duster, I got confused...

Maddox isn't upset with Marshals specifically, he's just upset with Deadwood attitude in general. He got damn close to bagging Darius Carter (who = bounties and thus = food...Maddox is scavenging right now) before James and Nicodemus screwed up that plan, but the general response to a serial killer/rapist on the loose, the guy who let him walk for the sake of an illegal duel Maddox doesn't believe will happen, and the town on fire again seems to be "meh". Or "fuck the police!", in Zek's case, which isn't super-helpful.

James didn't yell at all ... just spoke pretty plan.

Ah, 'k...was he expecting people besides Maddox to hear that, then? 'Cause speaking quietly in a gunfight/living house massacre/general calamity isn't super-effective!

Hilariously, it just means Maddox is the only one who understands the depths of James' sociopathic streak, and everyone's just going to tell him to calm down...

On the topic of the burning building, Matt's got only the foggiest idea of the events of the Night of the Living Blood Corpse Scram Glom, and while he may not feel safe around SCIENCE, at least trusts it to go right more than it goes wrong.

I kindof picture all the "talking while rome burns" as this rapidly escalating conversation/arguement that is leading up to a big kaboom. It's fun, in-genre.
