Re: Upcoming Errata

Tan Xiaohan:
(and how is running out explained? God suddenly developing ADHD?)

I think running out can be pretty easily explained. Maybe the deity in question is testing the faithful, or there is a lesson to be learned. Maybe it's His or Her will that things be accomplished by the faithful of their own means rather than by divine means. Maybe miracles are to be granted only for exceptional necessities, and not for everything.

Re: Upcoming Errata

Black Jack Boudreaux:
Why not wait until it is official rather than change it a piece at a time? Or are we play testing changes for the new edition?

I'm expecting the errata packet to be released sometime in the next few weeks. I don't have a problem keeping characters as they are until the packet is actually released, if you like. But the changes are coming, and soon. Be ready for them.

Tan Xiaohan:
Shamans. A shamen is one female shaman. If I see any Anglophone diminuitives to refer to female practitioners (-ess, -ette) I'm'a smack someone.

House rules! House rules!

Sham-wows? *ducks* Noted.

As for house rules, I happen to agree with depowering the Blessed. I'm not particularly pleased with HOW nerfed they seemed to have gotten, if the Noir version really is the final version, but I do agree with the general notion, and I agree with the notion of toning down the ABs in general.

Moses:
Moses doesn't like these changes, as they seriously nerf the Lord's most humble servant.

The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away.

Re: Upcoming Errata

In reply to The Stray (msg # 92):

I did not buy No it because of how vanilla that had made arcane backgrounds. IF THE NEW Deadlands goes that way i will not buy it. I would prefer to wait for the erratta.

That said I play in your game for the story not to power game. But I also have to say Jack has not felt over powered. That maybe because have limited my spell casting as not to take advantage of every chance to use them.

The other issue I have is that the blessed spell lists have a lot of cool utility spells but not a lot of direct spells.  That is cool when you know them all but kills the flavor when you won't be taking any of them. If you are in contact with the developers please pass along their other customers thoughts.

Re: Upcoming Errata

In reply to Black Jack Boudreaux (msg # 93):

Well, we have an unknown amount of time before the Errata drops (and more before the actual next edition is released), so we have some time to work out an acceptable solution.

Speaking of story...what does Black Jack make of Maddox's tale (and the apparently brewing conflict between him and Bullock)?

Re: Upcoming Errata

Oh, I reckon it'll play out as "miracles are for emergencies" - as it absoloutely should be, I was just entertained by the notion of potentially running out, like "Nnnnope, that's ten points of divine mercy, on to something else now, 'bye!" The "testing" idea is a pretty catch-all argument, though.

@ Stray - be glad I don't know what you mean, 'cause if that was trash talking shamanic practitioners who happen to be female and I had to smack someone I can't reach you from here...so I'd probably end up going *BAM* to some little old granny and she'd be all "but why would you do something so MEAN?" and I'd have to tell her that some guy on the internet drove me to it and she'd think you were a terrible person. So there. :P

That is most certainly true. But may I suggest to re-do the characters after their current fights end? Black Jack's out of his, but Art and Moses are right in the middle of theirs.

Re: Upcoming Errata

I do think that the Blessed compares unfavorably to the Miracles AB in the Savage Worlds book. That version only has the "needs to behave" clause and doesn't have any issues when it rolls a 1 on the die. The Blessed still have only 2 powers, except they get Protection forced on them, and in exchange for this "gift" they get to suck if they roll a 1 on their skill die. I really hope this is something they address in the errata.

ShamWow.  You following me, camera guy?

@Moses

Certainly. Moses is facing 30 bandits (plus other stuff you aren't aware of yet), so I'm not going to cut off his mojo right when he needs it most. It can be thought of as a good last hurrah for the blessed powers.

Re: Upcoming Errata

I missed this before, but the Noir version of protection is significantly different from the DLR one:

quote:
New Power: Protection
Rank: Novice
Power Points: 1
Range: Self
Duration: 3 (1/round)

A blessed who does nothing but concentrate on his faith is very difficult for creatures of darkness to oppose. A supernatural creatures that wants to directly attack a blessed using protection must win an opposed test of its Spirit versus the target’s Faith. Casters who present a proper religious symbol add +2 to the roll.

Notably, it now costs Power Points, but it has a duration of 3/1 instead of Concentration and no longer has the "can't move or take any other actions while using this power" clause. I'm not convinced that this power is worth having Crisis of Faith tacked on to the Miracles AB, though. Still marinating on things.

Thinking pinnacle should make a new advantage called Grandfather Clause. Let's a character stay the way they were before some new fangled edition came out.

It would require GM approval.

It's not--it's part of a different cunning plan.

You know, I just realized--based on how they stated Coot for Reloaded, I managed to roll Gabby up pretty close. Gabby's kind of a less-experienced Coot.

Who do I look like, William Pierce? ;)

Also...based on the description you gave for Coot, I also thought that it might be Gabby.

Well, they're both older men that look like every picture of a prospector you're ever seen, and the best pic to represent Coot also was Gabby's pick, so yeah. Though Coot is older than Gabby by about ten years.

I ask again: which you folk want to take over Nat Love, Seth Bullock, or Maddox? Or do you not want to run any of the wild cards? I'm looking for yes or no answers.
