Upstairs
A figure in a bulky grey suit clomped out of one of the back rooms carrying a satchel.
"Reginald!" the figure yells in a surprisingly feminine voice.
Hyram Burns, AKA Reginald Smythee, sighed in relief.
"Good girl! Toss me that satchel, would you please?"
The figure tossed the bundle at the mad scientist, who was interrupted as Mr. Sebastian's hideous black hound leapt for his unprotected back.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" The scientist screamed as the shadowy hound processed to maul him, clawing and biting and worrying him around like a rag doll.
Downstairs
Mr. Sebastian gave a tight smile at the scream from overhead.
"Good boy." he whispered to himself, then focused his attention on the problem at hand. That idiot that Maddox had dumped on his doorstep was here, burrowing up from the ground like some sort of worm. That was a
problem.
Whatever he'd poured down Wild Bill's throat seemingly had returned the revenant's mind back to him. Well, on the one hand, that was good - his poker game had convinced him that the Joker in control of him at the time would be more of a liability than an asset. Unfortunately, in this scenario Wild Bill would be confused and susceptible to suggestion, and the mountain man was much closer than Sebastian was. Simple psychology, really.
Carter, meanwhile, seemed to have had the tables turned on him. He was distracted, which was good.
The Mist was still the most immediate problem. He only had one ability that could harm it. It had shrugged of his first blast. Could he throw enough power behind a second to actually harm it?
And was he hearing things, or did he hear a
whippoorwill singing nearby?
Sebastian buried that thought, and concentrated in pulling on the darkness. He aimed his shadow again, focusing his power through the cane. his shadow lengthened unnaturally, falling on mist, gunslingers, and mountain man alike. Perhaps he could solve all his problems in one go. But in case he couldn't, it couldn't hurt to have some plausible deniability.
"Duck!" he shouted at Zeke and Wild Bill, too late for it to really matter. Colors leeched away, sucked into the void where his shadow touched. The mist whirled, pulled into the spiritual void as well. It only had time for a single nasty screech before vanishing, banished back to the Hunting Grounds for a time...though if Burns were eliminated, it wouldn't return at all.
Wild Bill, still reeling from Zeke's potion administration, yelped as the shadow licked at him, and Zeke himself suddenly felt very, very cold...
Darius Carter, at the very edge of the Shadow, didn't even seem to notice it falling on him, so intent was he on the appearance of a
third female nuisance in front of him.
Freiherr von Steinhof:
Von Steinhof accepts the hand as he's pulled from the chair. Or, rather, what is left of it.
"What a sobering experience!" He exclaims, his words still somewhat slurry.
"Well. That's one threat down." Sebastian said to Von Steinhof.
"Sobering indeed."
((OOC: Roger's Shadow continues after Hyram Burns. It has a Pace of 8, so it can reach him fairly easily.
It has Improved Frenzy, so it makes 2 attacks against the doctor. It's a Henchman, so it also gets a Wild Die. It Wild Attacks for extra bonus and damage.
21:05, Today: Mr. Sebastian's Shadow rolled 6,4,5 using d8+2,d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,2,3. Fighting (Frenzy, Wild Attack).
That's 2 hits.
Damage 1: 7. That doesn't actually hurt Burns, thanks to his hidden armor.
Damage 2: 24. That, on the other hand, is 4 wounds. That will Incapacitate Burns if he doesn't Soak.
Burns spends one of hs chips to attempt to do just that.
21:09, Today: Hyram Burns rolled 14,4 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (8+6)14,4. Soak.
...Huh. Well, that soaks 3 wounds, leaving Burns with 1 wound and a Shaken.
Mr. Sebastian, on the other hand, is in a pickle. He remembers Zeke, but is really in no mood to fight him. He's not sure what Zeke is doing to Wild Bill, either. Carter, on the other hand, threatened to kill him multiple times, and Mr. Sebastian is Vengeful (but not overly so). And the Mist is an immediate threat, but not one Mr. Sebastian can do much about except hit with his Burst, which wasn't overly successful last time.
But as Burst is the only weapon he has against the mist, well, that's what he'll use. And if it hits Zeke, Wild Bill, and Careter as well...well, it's an unfortunate price but one he won't lose much sleep over.
21:31, Today: Mr. Roger Sebastian Whateley rolled 19,5 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (10+9)19,5. Spellcasting. Success and Raise, though a Raise doesn't do much in this instance.
Everyone in the path needs to make an Agility roll vs. 19 or be hit by the Burst. Also, all those hit suffer a -1 penalty on Sight-based actions (like Fighting and Shooting) on their next action.
Carter: 21:42, Today: Darius Carter rolled 11,4 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 11,4. Agility.
Good, but not good enough. Mr. Sebastian gets a Success and Raise.
Damage: 5. That doesn't even annoy him.
Mist: 21:44, Today: Mourning Mist rolled 8,2 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+2)8,2. Agility.
Sebastian gets a Success and Raise over the Mist.
Damage: 29. That, on the other hand, is 5 wounds the mist needs to soak. It has one chip left, so it tries to do just that.
21:50, Today: Mourning Mist rolled 6,5 using d12+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,3. Soak.
Nowhere near close enough. The mist is banished (for now).
Wild Bill: 21:45, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 11,4 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 11,4. Agility.
I just rolled that exact thing for Carter. wut?
Anyhow, that's a Hit and Raise for Sebastian.
Damage: 13. Because of Wild Bill's immunities, he's only Shaken by that.
Card: 4S))
Zeke, make an Agility Check (vs. 19). You'll take 2d10 damage if you fail, +d6 if you fail by 4 or more.
Von Steinhof is up! (at long last!)
