Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

((OOC: Rules stuff!

@Katy

hmm...so here's a conundrum.

Carter's pistol is a Relic, but I suppose the Mechanical Malfunction would work on the parts that make it a gun. On the other hand, he's actually casting a spell, not using any inherent property of the Relic. On a third hand, he needs the item in hand to enact his powers. On the fourth hand (kinky) nothing says the bound item has to be in working order, just that it's carved right.

So I'm going to leave it up to the Magic 8-Ball to give me some guidance on whether this works to stop the Hex or not.

13:56, Today: The Stray got the result "Yes - definitely" on the magic 8-ball.  Does the malfunction stop the hex?

Well OK then. Does it cause any sort of backlash other than him losing his spell?

13:57, Today: The Stray got the result "Outlook not so good" on the magic 8-ball.  does it cause a backlash?

So he'll keep his current spells (quickness and deflection) going, but can't cast anything more unless he gets a substitute weapon.

That is going to really screw him over.

@Zeke: You may, but Wild Bill can spend chips of his own to try and beat your roll.))

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Carter suddenly winds up looking all manner of foolish as his conjured wind suddenly vanishes and his gun starts oozing strange substances. He looks at it, confused. Then he frowns. "Well, alrighty, then. There's more than one way to skin a cat, though."

Apparently, Zeke does feel lucky! He leaps at Wild Bill, grabbing wildly, and is able to get enough of a grip to jam the vial of greenish fluid down Rabid Bill's throat. Wild Bill chokes and attempts to spit the fluid up, but Zeke has enough of a hold that he can't.

He begins bucking and spasming, and gurgles as he claws at Zeke's arms.

Then he goes completely limp.

There is a dead silence for several heartbeats.

When Zeke pulls the flask away, he can see Wild Bill looking at him, confused. "Where am I?" he says, sounding dazed. "And who the hell are you?"

((OOC: That'll do it.

Wild Bill and his manitou fight for dominion. Thanks to the Prospector's elixir, Wild Bill doesn't have any penalty due to his negative Dominion (which is at -4, so he'd be in deep trouble otherwise) and has a free Blue chip to spend. He also has some whites and access to GM chips...but his Manitou also has chips and desperately wants to keep control.

Wild Bill rolls Spirit. His Manitou also rolls Spirit.

22:17, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 6,3 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 6,3.  Dominion Check (Manitou). The Manitou isn't confident about that, so it spends a white chip on a reroll.

22:17, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 19,5 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (10+9)19,5.  white chip.

Wild Bill has to beat 19 in order to regain control.

22:18, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 23,3 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (8+8+7)23,3.  Dominion Check.

That...that's a success and Raise, without even a chip spent. But Wild Bill spends his blue anyway, because he's still at negative dominion which means he'd still be in danger of the manitou seizing control of him.

22:20, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 3 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3.  blue chip.

That's not really going to do any better...but since the name of the game is "roll and then keep highest" when you reroll with a White Chip, he can try to give it one more shot.

22:22, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 3,4,3 using d8,d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,4,3.  white chip.

Nope, not any better. Ah, well. Bill regains 2 Dominion, putting him at -2 and back in control (for now).))

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Nicodemus watches what he can of the goings-on in the Saloon. "Well, this is intolerable." He mutters as he sees Wilder run into the room and Zeke force-feed Wild Bill a potion. "The odds of those meddlers dying is going down dramatically. Time to up the stakes."

He begins shuffling a handful of spectral cards. "Tzipporah Whateley...Tzipporah Whateley..." He mutters. "I call on you, I summon you to my side, I bind you to my service through your True Name. Come to me from beyond the veils of death. Come! Come!"

He tosses a card, The Queen Of Spades, on the boards next to him. A black mist rises and a form takes shape. A woman in a black funeral dress appears, long dark hair flowing behind her. She peers at Nicodemus angrily through a black veil with one gree eye--the other is a bloody, ragged hole through which daylight shines.

"Nicodemus." The specter growls at the wizard, her hand curling around the gun in the belt at her side. "You have some nerve calling for me thus."

Nicodemus smiles. "Hello, Sister Mine. You're looking well. As well as can be expected, at any rate."

"What. Do. You. Want?" The specter growls irritably.

"There are a pair of idiots who need to have holes put in them." Nicodemus says, pointing out Zeke and Wilder. "You were ever so good at that. I thought you might do it again. For old time's sake."

"Old time's sake." Tzipporah echoes incredulously. She puts a finger to her temple, calling attention to the hole in her head. "Let me see if I can remember the old times. There's so little of my mind left, what with the hole that Ranger blew in it. It's so hard to recall...oh, wait! I do recall something! 'Family is as family does?' Isn't that how it went? Yes, I remember that quite clearly."

"You aren't still holding a grudge about that, are you?" Nicodemus said. He was getting nervous. Spirits that hadn't passed on were very good at holding grudges.

"You weren't there when we needed you, Nic. You turned your back on the family. You turned your back on The Master." The specter shrugged. "This is your problem, Nic. You can deal with it." An invisible wind rose up around Tzipporah, sending her dress flapping wildly. "I'm going to take this time you've given back to me and have some fun with it. Ta-ta!" And then she threw her hands up to the sky and stepped off the balcony.

"Tipporah! Tzipporah! Wait!" Nic shouted after the specter as she hurtled to the ground outside the Bella Union, dress billowing about her. But he knew it was no use. She wouldn't come back. he'd have to try something else.

While Katy and Jackie were exchanging pleasantries with Darius Carter, a black-clad figure fell off the roof behind them and landed with a thud behind them.

A woman in a billowing black widow's dress stood behind them, the wind whipping her long dark hair behind her. She wore a veil that did nothing to conceal the hole where her eye had been. A gunbelt hung at her waist. She smiled serenely at the two.

"Hello, girls." She says, giving them a grin that showed only teeth. "What fun is this we're having here today?"

((OOC: Nicodemus attempts to summon a spirit to deal with Zeke and Wilder. He calls on the spirit of his dear departed gunslinger sister, Tzipporah Whateley, and tries to talk her into assisting him.

14:32, Today: Nicodemus Whateley rolled 8,5 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 8,5.  Spellcasting. Success and Raise on his roll, which gives him a +2 bonus on the opposed Spirit check to control the spirit.

14:33, Today: Nicodemus Whateley rolled 9,3 using d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 7,1.  Spirit.

14:34, Today: Tzipporah Whateley rolled 5,10 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,(6+4)10.  Spirit (Opposed).

Tzipporah tells Nicodemus to go pound sand. Since she can stay in the mortal realm for an hour, she decides to go wandering off, and leaps down to the ground and says "hi" to some fellow gunfighters. She also activates her deflection power in case her reception is less than friendly.

15:02, Today: Tzipporah Whateley rolled 8,2 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 8,2.  Spellcasting. Success and Raise, so attacks against her have a -4 to hit.

Jackie, Katy, I want you to make a Fear Check (vs. Fear/Nausea, not Terror, -5 local Fear level, + Grit) at the sudden appearance of a woman with half her head blown off saying hello.

Nicodemus' Card: KS
Tzipporah's Card: 7H

Meanwhile, off-screen, Cynthia Burns finishes donning her Suit and grabs the satchel of dynamite in the room. Then she heads out to meet up with Hyram. She tosses him the bag, which takes up her action.

Cynthia's card: AS))

Katy touched the brim of her hat with her forefinger. "Howdy, ma'am." If the appearance of a specter with a hole in her head affected Katy, she certainly didn't show it. Apparently such things were second-nature for the Ranger.

16:25, Today: Catherine Hays Cox rolled 11,6 using d6+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of (6+4)10,5.  Fear.

"There's a fella in there that has taken ta tryin' ta kill me. I intend ta do the reverse. Are you having a pleasant day, er, I didn't catch yer name?"

18:52, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 1,3 using d8-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 3,5.  Spirit Roll.

Since that's only 1 off, I spent Jackie's Red to pass with a 4+.  No point in a Raise so didn't roll it.

Jackie Wells had seen way too much today.

She was divided.  Jackie's instinct was to shred this thing, but it was just talking so far.  She decided that she hated Darius Carter more than she wanted to shoot this thing.  At least for the moment.

"Oh, passing fair, I suppose." The specter with the hole in her head said airily. "A name, a name...hmm. How about The Whippoorwill?" she whistles, doing a remarkable imitation of the whippoorwill's call. She grins again. "It's close enough, but not so close as to conjure by. Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Upstairs

A figure in a bulky grey suit clomped out of one of the back rooms carrying a satchel. "Reginald!" the figure yells in a surprisingly feminine voice.

Hyram Burns, AKA Reginald Smythee, sighed in relief. "Good girl! Toss me that satchel, would you please?"

The figure tossed the bundle at the mad scientist, who was interrupted as Mr. Sebastian's hideous black hound leapt for his unprotected back.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" The scientist screamed as the shadowy hound processed to maul him, clawing and biting and worrying him around like a rag doll.

Downstairs

Mr. Sebastian gave a tight smile at the scream from overhead. "Good boy." he whispered to himself, then focused his attention on the problem at hand. That idiot that Maddox had dumped on his doorstep was here, burrowing up from the ground like some sort of worm. That was a problem.

Whatever he'd poured down Wild Bill's throat seemingly had returned the revenant's mind back to him. Well, on the one hand, that was good - his poker game had convinced him that the Joker in control of him at the time would be more of a liability than an asset. Unfortunately, in this scenario Wild Bill would be confused and susceptible to suggestion, and the mountain man was much closer than Sebastian was. Simple psychology, really.

Carter, meanwhile, seemed to have had the tables turned on him. He was distracted, which was good.

The Mist was still the most immediate problem. He only had one ability that could harm it. It had shrugged of his first blast. Could he throw enough power behind a second to actually harm it?

And was he hearing things, or did he hear a whippoorwill singing nearby?

Sebastian buried that thought, and concentrated in pulling on the darkness. He aimed his shadow again, focusing his power through the cane. his shadow lengthened unnaturally, falling on mist, gunslingers, and mountain man alike. Perhaps he could solve all his problems in one go. But in case he couldn't, it couldn't hurt to have some plausible deniability.

"Duck!" he shouted at Zeke and Wild Bill, too late for it to really matter. Colors leeched away, sucked into the void where his shadow touched. The mist whirled, pulled into the spiritual void as well. It only had time for a single nasty screech before vanishing, banished back to the Hunting Grounds for a time...though if Burns were eliminated, it wouldn't return at all.

Wild Bill, still reeling from Zeke's potion administration, yelped as the shadow licked at him, and Zeke himself suddenly felt very, very cold...

Darius Carter, at the very edge of the Shadow, didn't even seem to notice it falling on him, so intent was he on the appearance of a third female nuisance in front of him.

Freiherr von Steinhof:
Von Steinhof accepts the hand as he's pulled from the chair. Or, rather, what is left of it.
"What a sobering experience!" He exclaims, his words still somewhat slurry.

"Well. That's one threat down." Sebastian said to Von Steinhof. "Sobering indeed."

((OOC: Roger's Shadow continues after Hyram Burns. It has a Pace of 8, so it can reach him fairly easily.

It has Improved Frenzy, so it makes 2 attacks against the doctor. It's a Henchman, so it also gets a Wild Die. It Wild Attacks for extra bonus and damage.

21:05, Today: Mr. Sebastian's Shadow rolled 6,4,5 using d8+2,d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,2,3.  Fighting (Frenzy, Wild Attack).

That's 2 hits.

Damage 1: 7. That doesn't actually hurt Burns, thanks to his hidden armor.
Damage 2: 24. That, on the other hand, is 4 wounds. That will Incapacitate Burns if he doesn't Soak.

Burns spends one of hs chips to attempt to do just that.

21:09, Today: Hyram Burns rolled 14,4 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (8+6)14,4.  Soak.

...Huh. Well, that soaks 3 wounds, leaving Burns with 1 wound and a Shaken.

Mr. Sebastian, on the other hand, is in a pickle. He remembers Zeke, but is really in no mood to fight him. He's not sure what Zeke is doing to Wild Bill, either. Carter, on the other hand, threatened to kill him multiple times, and Mr. Sebastian is Vengeful (but not overly so). And the Mist is an immediate threat, but not one Mr. Sebastian can do much about except hit with his Burst, which wasn't overly successful last time.

But as Burst is the only weapon he has against the mist, well, that's what he'll use. And if it hits Zeke, Wild Bill, and Careter as well...well, it's an unfortunate price but one he won't lose much sleep over.

21:31, Today: Mr. Roger Sebastian Whateley rolled 19,5 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (10+9)19,5.  Spellcasting. Success and Raise, though a Raise doesn't do much in this instance.

Everyone in the path needs to make an Agility roll vs. 19 or be hit by the Burst. Also, all those hit suffer a -1 penalty on Sight-based actions (like Fighting and Shooting) on their next action.

Carter: 21:42, Today: Darius Carter rolled 11,4 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 11,4.  Agility.

Good, but not good enough. Mr. Sebastian gets a Success and Raise.

Damage: 5. That doesn't even annoy him.

Mist: 21:44, Today: Mourning Mist rolled 8,2 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+2)8,2.  Agility.

Sebastian gets a Success and Raise over the Mist.

Damage: 29. That, on the other hand, is 5 wounds the mist needs to soak. It has one chip left, so it tries to do just that.

21:50, Today: Mourning Mist rolled 6,5 using d12+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,3.  Soak.

Nowhere near close enough. The mist is banished (for now).

Wild Bill: 21:45, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 11,4 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 11,4.  Agility.

I just rolled that exact thing for Carter. wut?

Anyhow, that's a Hit and Raise for Sebastian.

Damage: 13. Because of Wild Bill's immunities, he's only Shaken by that.

Card: 4S))

Zeke, make an Agility Check (vs. 19). You'll take 2d10 damage if you fail, +d6 if you fail by 4 or more.

"It seems we have a moment... my friend and I actually looked for you. You have something that a friend of ours has lost. Files. You do not need them, I am sure. So, how about you give them to me?"

It wasn't the most compelling argument Leopold had ever made.

"Eat this Carter!"

Jackie took a carefully aimed shot.

Right, so taking the clue, here's for a Headshot.  Since she's only firing once, I assume Marksman counts since she's going to keep using the hole for cover.

14:11, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 7,8 using 1d10-2,1d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 9,(6+4)10.  Shooting with modifiers.

Oh snap.

13 damage - not amazing but solid!

14:12, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 8,5 using 2d6+4,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,2,5.  Pistol with Headshot, Raise.

14:13, Today: Jackie Wells drew the single card: RJ! using a deck of 54 cards.

"All right, steady boys - just remember the smell of payday!" the taller, duskier lady gunslinger and apparent leader of the thugs calls across, gripping her resolve in the face of poltergeistery and man-eating shadows. "Let's put some lead in 'em!"

The two half-Oriental fellows exchange looks and settle with their pistols pointed downward in symmetrical focus. Her huge blond companion hesitates, staring spooked at the supernatural chaos. The smallest one has a funny little grin on her ratty face, but shifts position quickly for a better angle.

The leader draws a bead on Wild Bill, aiming to get him in the front this time. "Fire!"

*BANG*BANG*BANG*

A trio of shots pepper the air and furniture. The smallest one laughs, kneels up on the balcony and cracks off a neat shot at Roger Whateley.

{crack}

"That's how a Hewitt do it!" she cackles.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

A stray bullet does, at that moment, wing Mr. Sebastian, who hisses in pain. "Oh, no. If I do not make it out of here, then the next time you see those files, it will be because they are the top story on the front page of every newspaper from Washington to Lost Angels. I can only stop that if I'm alive and at liberty and can tell my allies not to distribute them." he pokes his suit, examining the wound. It seems to be just a graze, but it's already bloody. "Think of it as an incentive to see to my good health."

((OOC: The shot to Mr. Sebastian will make him Shaken, but talking is a Free Action.))

Got Tolliver, Hyram Burns, and Maddox all up next, then it's a new round.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Carter staggers as Jackie shots at him, but he must have the devil's own luck, as it only seems to take off part of his ear. "Aw, does that mean we're not friends anymore?" He smirks at the time traveler.

Maddox looks at Brett Bones, and sighs. "Well, see you, you have a date with the hangman." he says, grabbing Brett's arms. he starts dragging him towards the back door.

"You think you're so clever." Tolliver muttered to the nearest roulette table. "It's time to remind you who you're dealing with! I built you. You're mine." He takes out his knife, and then begins hacking at the wall, carving over the words scrawled in the wood.

I belong to Tolliver the new message reads.

Then the wall peels away. The hacked-up wallpaper strips itself off, and a new message is revealed, singed into the bare wood below.

You don't have enough gun to make me do shit, Old Man. You'll never get to the dynamite stash. I'll kill you first, or maybe have you wandering my halls forever. How do you like that?

Tolliver grins. "So that's still here, then. You aren't as smart as you think you are."

The world was pain to Hyram Burns. The monstrous mutt was chomping on his thigh now, even as he kicked to keep it at bay. He clutched the satchel full of dynamite close to him, and briefly considered lighting it all off.

It has the benefit of taking out the mutt for sure, and this blasted infernal building with it. He thought. But the deaths of me and dear Penelope in the process is a very definite downside. No, I shall have to weather this long enough to get some space.

"Penelope!" He shouts to the girl in the space suit. "Charge the suit's Dephlogisticater! Burn this place to the ground!"

So saying, he activated a small but potent array of medicinal injectors cleverly hidden in his suit. He chose a particularly pain-numbing agent and charged it with phlogiston, injecting the drug and enhancing the speed of its effects. In a few moment, he felt ready to take on the world.

((OOC: So, going through the remaining turns:

Darius Carter is facing a Wound from Jackie's shot (thanks to the AP on her gun). He spends a chip to attempt to soak.

08:41, Today: Darius Carter rolled 24,1 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of (10+10+4)24,1.  Soak.

Not only does he soak that wound, he soaks the shit out of it. He has 1 chip left before he's relying on GM chips.

Hyram Burns attempts to Unshake. He has a Wound.

05:46, Today: Hyram Burns rolled 0,1 using d6-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 1,2.  Unshake.

Not really going to do it, and he's in danger here, so he's going to spend a GM chip to auto-unshake.

He decides to use his Phlogiston Injector (boost attribute) to enhance his Vigor. He can't really do much else with Shadow so close.

05:49, Today: Hyram Burns rolled 6,0 using d10-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 7,1.  Weird Science.

That puts his Vigor up to d10, for a total of 9 with his armor taken into account.

05:55, Today: Hyram Burns drew the single card: 4D using the Deadlands system.

Cyrus Tolliver decides to do what he's best at--being a vicious asshole--and begins taunting the Bella Union by carving his name into it.

05:51, Today: Cyrus Tolliver rolled 3,7 using d10+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 1,5.  Taunt Test of Wills.

05:52, Today: Bella Union Saloon rolled 2,3 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2,3.  Resisting ToW.

Oh yes, this will piss the Bella Union off no end. Tolliver gets a +2 to his next action against the Bella Union, goads it into revealing a weakness to him.

05:54, Today: Cyrus Tolliver drew the single card: 6D using the Deadlands system.

Maddox, confused but not eager to get into a gunfight, spends his action dragging Brett Bones back towards the rear door.

05:56, Today: Maddox drew the single card: 7H using the Deadlands system.

I make some secret rolls to see if Lonefeather finds help. He does not.))

Round TL;DR
Katy and Jackie continue shooting it our with Carter. Carter fires back, but Katy dutches his spell and screws up his fancy gun with some mojo of her own. Katy and Jackie take the sudden appearance of the undead Whippoorwill Whateley in stride after she tells her brother Nicodemus to do his own damn dirty work. As The Whippoorwill seems to be on their side for the moment, Katy and Jackie let her slide.
Some of the Townsfolk recover enough to start running. One, a drunk miner, goes after Wild Bill in a fit of mad bravado and is quickly gunned down. Wild Bill also shoots at Logan West, who has the good sense to play dead. Ezekiel Starkweather bursts out from under the floorboards and grapples with Bill, attempting to get the prospector's elixir down his gullet, he does, and the manitou controlling Wild Bill is forced back down. Wild Bill, now very confused about where he is and what's going on, is back in control of his own mind.
James Wilder makes it into the chaos of the saloon and says a brief hello to Von Steinhoff as he seeks out Darius Carter. Maddox is left to drag Brett Bones back outside.
Von Steinhof, meanwhile, starts negotiating with Mr. Sebastian for the return of the Files. Mr. Sebastian takes down the Mourning Mist (but no one else) and agrees to hand the files over--if Von Steinhof will keep him alive and then leave him at liberty after the files are delivered. He won't budge on this, even when he gets clipped by a shot from the Hardcases, who have decided to just start shooting everyone. Cyrus Tolliver, meanwhile, Taunts the Bella Union Saloon, which is still reeling from carter's attack. He successfully taunts the living house. Whether this is a good thing is up for debate.
Cynthia Burns is able to deliver a bag full of dynamite to Hyram Burns just before Mr. Sebastian's Shadow reaches him and starts putting the hurt on. Burns considers something suicidally stupid before opting to buff himself instead.
Lonefeather does not pass go, and does not collect 200 soldiers to help with this mess.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Zek glares at the mage, and glances back at now 'Wild' Bill. "Who am I?! I am the man who just gave you back your mind. And now you owe me-and you better not shoot at anybody else but who I tell you-even if they shoot you. I gotta a lot friends here who only know you as a murderer of women and children. Besides, a bullet or 10 ain't gonna bother you any." Zek spits off to the side.

"If you really wanna kill someone who deserves it for a change-shoot that bastard..." He points at Carter.

"Or any Whateley son of a bitch you clap your eyes on! Like the one who just tried to blow us up!" With that, he charges Sebastian, and punches him with fists that suddenly glow red as his eyes.

OOC-Moves over to Sebastion, uses harrowed power of claws. Should be a hit, as I equaled his parry, and did 16 damage.

13:25, Today: Ezekiel Starkweather rolled 11,5 using 1d12+2,1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 9,5.  Damage.
13:25, Today: Ezekiel Starkweather rolled 7,5 using 1d8+2,1d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 5,3.  Wild attack vs Sebastion.

13:33, Today: Ezekiel Starkweather drew the single card: KS using a deck of 54 cards.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Wild Bill's eyes narrow. "Thank you much, I suppose, but I'll shoot anybody who needs killn', your leave or no."

Mr. Sebastian raises his cane and blocks Zeke's wild blows--or at least enough of them that he avoids the worst of the red energy.

"Well that's gratitude for you." Sebastian. "I only know that one spell that can deal with creatures like the blood-red mist. It has a splash radius. Unfortunate that you got caught in it, but I probably saved the lives of everyone else in here."

He parries another swing. "I have no idea what your grievance with me is. All I did was guide you. Is it because of my cousin? Well, you threatened us. We didn't invite you in. We didn't want you there. And frankly, if you'd actually let Mrs. Fairchild do her job you'd have wound up safe and sound in a saloon somewhere none the worse for wear and no memory of your misadventure. But then you had to go swearing blood vengeance on my entire family. You did that. You're a rabid dog! Don't be so surprised when reasonable people put you down!"

((OOC: That's 2 wounds to Sebastian, who attempts to soak.

10:43, Today: Mr. Roger Sebastian Whateley rolled 4,2 using d8,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,2.  Soak.

That's 1 Wound soaked. He spends a GM red chip (now out of red chips again, until one of you spends some reds) and plans on spending a GM white if this isn't enough.

10:43, Today: Mr. Roger Sebastian Whateley rolled 5 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5.  red chip.

It turns out to be enough. He soaks both wounds.

He speaks, too, since Talking is a Free Action and Mr. Sebastian likes to talk.))

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

22:51, Today: Freiherr von Steinhof rolled 3 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3.
22:51, Today: Freiherr von Steinhof rolled 6 using 1d8, rerolling max with rolls of 6.  Putting the gun against Zeke's head.

If that's rather Agility instead of Fighting, it's the same dice. Adding another d6 in case that's an opposed roll:
22:52, Today: Freiherr von Steinhof rolled 8 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+2)8.  blue chip on top.

So, total of 14.

And yes, I'm hoping that gains me The Drop against Zeke. With my pistol against his head. It's what I call "a strong argument". :-)

Von Steinhof rolled his eyes.

"Now, this is quite unfortunate", he says dryly, then pushes  his pistol against Zeke's head.
"This is no way to get introduced, one gentleman to another. However, I have need of this gentleman... and you, sir, seem to have a conflicting interest. I hesitate to shoot you for two reasons: One, you had a calming effect on Herr Hickock. And Two: It would be uncivilized. Now go, please. There are plenty of others for you to kill. May I suggest the not so good Doctor Burns, upstairs? He's at least in part responsible for all of this."

22:57, Today: Freiherr von Steinhof drew the single card: 10C using the Deadlands system.  Initiative.
