Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

As Belle Ivers travels though Deadwood back toward the Iron Dragon railyard, she hears shooting coming from up the street.

A lean man dressed in well worn clothes, a bandanna around his neck, and a gatling pistol in his grip runs past. "Help! Bandits are robbing the Bella Union!" he shouts.

((OOC: And Belle needs to draw me a card, please. If she gets a higher card than Carter has (he's 10S), she gets to act immediately.))

The perils of mobile posting!

19:18, Today: Belle Ivers drew the single card: AC using a deck of 54 cards.

"Will today's calamities never cease!?"  Belle wondered aloud as she shouldered her rifle and ran into a place sane people would promptly flee from.

Not sure what side of that mess she approaches from?  Would make a considerable difference as far as situational awareness goes.

((OOC: She's approaching from the left side. There's a barricade she'll need to climb over to get into the fight, or she'll need to go in through the back entrance (on the current map, there are some Medium Burst Templates there because that's where Mr. Sebastian's explosives are going to go off.))

Belle was not one to avoid the chance to go straight into the fray as she hopped the barricade.

Not sure if that's a roll but there you go.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

So this oughta be interestin'

07:01, Today: Belle Ivers rolled 1,3 using d4-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 3,5.  There's no Climbing in The Railroad Biz.

That's pretty good actually!  Cost a chip but I figure this is better than losing like 2 actions running around the place.

07:01, Today: Belle Ivers rolled 5 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5.  better red than dead.

So an 8, probably overkill but w/e she made it

Yay did it early in the AM to not clog up everyone else

Next round:

07:03, Today: Belle Ivers drew the single card: 7H using a deck of 54 cards.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Belle clambers over the barricade, and looks over a mess.

This burned section of town is grim. There's a crater in the middle of the street, and the scaffolding of the building being built to replace the Gem looks more skeletal than it should. The Bella Union's front facade is a rusty red, and the front windows and door are all boarded up, save for a giant hole iin one of the boards. The remains of Tom & Nuttal's No. 10 lie in a sad heap.

Two women crouch at the hole in the Bella Union's wall. One of them is a tall woman dressed in a black duster and sombrero, wielding the fanciest sixgun Belle's ever done seen. The other woman is even taller, nearly six feet, and has short blonde hair, a ripped and stained burgundy dress, and a gatling pistol of unfamiliar make.

Both of them are staring at the street's only other occupant -- a tall, handsome man with piercing eyes and wavy auburn hair that flows to his shoulders. He wears a wide-brimmed hat and has a well-kept mustache. He looks like every dime novel depiction of Wild Bill Hickok.

And he's transparent. He wanders across the dusty street, feet not kicking up any dust as he walks.

There's gunfire from inside the saloon.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Darius sees the hardcases heading his way, grabs the rail, and leaps back down to the Bella Union's floor.

He whips out a knife with his off-hand, and grins at James Wilder. "So. You may have figgered out by now that sprayin' and prayin' ain't gonna cut it if'n you want to take me down. That bitch may have fouled up my gun, but I reckon I can still buffalo your ass with it."

So saying, he charges at Wilder, whipping his gun at the bounty hunter's face over and over. Wherever it touches, hellish green flames burst forth, though James is lucky that none of the sparks catch his shirt. Carter laughs as he rains blows down.

"You know boy, I could do this all day! Maybe I'll make ya squeal like I did your momma!"

((OOC: Carter spends a chip to Unshake. He uses the chip I just got from Belle's red.

Carter doesn't feel like getting run over by the Hardcases, so he jumps off the stair and back to the Bella Union's floor.

10:06, Today: Darius Carter rolled 7,2 using d12,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 7,2.  Agility not to faceplant.

Success, but this costs him 2 squares of movement.

He still has quickness active and is on his last free round of deflection, so he decides to wade into combat. he uses one of his actions to pull a Bowie knife, but he's got a better melee weapon already.

His Relic gun can't shoot right now, but it's bound to him and sets anyone else who touches it on fire, so he decides to use this nifty property to make it an improvised melee weapon (-1 Parry, -1 Fighting). He goes after James. The gun will do str+d4 damage, and then a separate roll of 2d8 fire damage. If he just wants to deal the fire damage, he can do that with a touch attack, but he's feelin' ornery. He Wild Attacks to cancel out his penalty and get extra damage.

First attack: 10:15, Today: Darius Carter rolled 10,2 using d8+1,d6+1, rerolling max with rolls of (8+1)9,1.  Fighting (Wild Attack). Hit and Raise

Damage: 14 normal damage, 6 Fire damage. That's 2 wounds from being beat about the face, and a Shaken result from the fire (which will be another Wound if James can't soak the first two). It does not set James on fire (this time).

Darius Carter's Parry is down to 3, but he still has deflection active (-2 to hit)

Carter's Card: 6D))

James Wilder needs to Soak 2 Wounds and then possibly a third. Von Steinhoff is up!

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

"Disregarding for a moment that an astute specter recently reminded me that much of what one reads is in fact erroneous, it seems Mr. McCall was subject to what I believe the vernacular calls a kangaroo court.  That was truly a black mark on humankind's record.  If one James Butler Hickok were to suddenly rejoin us on this terrestrial sphere, it would truly be a yarn for the dime novels for him to go on a great quest to right this terrible wrong, and truthfully I would rather enjoy the tale of such despicable villains who commit wanton murder getting their karmic fulfillment.

"However were it not the Wild Bill of literary trash and simply a man who had returned miraculously, I would rather think the rarity of such a chance would cause a man who was not a character in some seedy dime novel to ponder the full implications of such an opportunity and whether such precious time was best spent on such loathsome creatures as those.  Alas, you are but a hallucination in mine own eyes, so perhaps the time invested in such idle pontification is better spent pursing these robbers I have been informed of.  Belle Ivers, you have positively lost your everloving mind as you stand here speaking to a man who is not here and whom the world has missed for some time now."

"If that fella's a hallucination, then it's catchin'." The blonde woman says, scowling at Bill. "'Cause I see him, too, and I saw him blow the heads off three people what never did him no harm, and as I understand it, this here vision's responsible fer the Gem bein' a pile of ash, a mess folks killed where they stood, and the pressin' of a mad scientist's funky toy that exploded and caused this mess here that we're tryin' to clean up!"

Jackie Wells scowls at Hickok. "So yes, this is, in fact, your rodeo." She raises her gatling pistol. "And this here? This can put you back in the ground, ghostin' or no."

Bill just stands there, looking shocked and more than a little mortified.

Katy watched Whooperwill get shredded by gunfire from her new friend, and was unsurprised when the dead Whateley disappeared in a cloud rather than die proper. She addressed Jackie, though looked at Bill. "Thanks fer that. I owe ya one."

The commotion of Carter's return drew part of her attention, but the list of things laid at Bill's feet also had part of it. She spun her own pistol. "As can this, pardner. Ain't sure you were in yer right mind jus' now, though."

Leopold took the chaos and mayhem in for a second, unsure what to do next. But, as often in the life of the Austrian officer, circumstances forced a decision upon him.
In this instance, Carter attacking a very dear and good friend of his.

"Herr Carter, would you mind holding the pose for the camera?" he said, but all he had to take a shot with was his pistol. So he used that instead, once he got Carter's attention.
