Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

"Heya, Katy," he said, giving her a grin that was part playful, part abashed. There was still a hint of the good natured, if sometimes brash young man she'd known back in south Texas in that grin, and he'd grown into a handsome man.

Logan turned to see Wild Bill's undead specter there looking bemused, and clearly as he had assumed, back in control of himself.

"Mr. Hickok, I heard you was quite the lawman down in Abilene. I was damn sorry to hear about what happened up here, and am certainly glad that you're back in the charge of yourself, so to speak. But you were throwin' around a lotta lead in there, and tried to kill me as well - damn near did, too. Now, save for Miss Ivers here, were all law dogs of one stripe or another," he said, gesturing to Jackie and Katy.

"But that Carter fella in there don't got the excuse you did. He's in control, and killin' folks for fun, and I reckon that ain't your style. How about you play for the good team again, for just for a bit? Help us take down Carter, so we can get all them innocent folks outta that death trap?"

OOC:

Logan is going to try to convince Hickok to help them take down Carter.

Persuade: 16

09:50, Today: Logan West rolled 16,7 using d6+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of (6+6+2)14,5.  Persuadin'.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Wild Bill give Logan a long, haunted look. He looks at his pistols. "I been lots of things." he says. "Reckon they'll try to hang me, out of my head or not, for what I done here. Can't say as I'd blame them none, either." He glares at the marshal. "You heard all I done in Abilene? I killed an innocent man. Shot down my own damn deputy by mistake. You really sure you want to partner up?"  Then he takes a long look through the hole in the wall and back into the Bella Union. "All I really wanted to do when I came to Deadwood was play poker, maybe do some mining. I didn't never plan to do any lawing again. Not after Mike."

He sighs. "But fine." He looks over at the barricade. "I reckon this Carter's got it comin' anyhow. He's not going to come this way. Not with all these guns here. He's going to make for the back door or a rear window." He looks down at his belt. He's still missing the gun he'd dropped earlier. "Reckon one iron will be enough for now. I'll head to the back door. Someone ought to go round the other side, in case he goes out there. The others can hold this hole here."

Then he strides towards the barricade...and right through it. Belle, still perched on top, can see him making for the rear. A pair of soiled doves climbing out the second-story window see him, scream, drop to the ground, and then scoot out of his way.

((OOC: That'll do it, at least for now. Wild Bill moves to try to cut off Carter's exit by Ghosting toward the back door. He Runs.

21:07, Today: Wild Bill Hickok rolled 4 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4.  Run.

Logan hadn't heard that particular part of Hickok's legend, but had merely hoped to persuade whatever part of the law man that remained in Wild Bill to help them do right by the town in this particular situation.

"Well, looks like we have quite the ally in this mess, at least insofar as takin' down Carter," he said.

"Katy's always been the better shot than me. Reckon that's still the case. If y'all stay here and keep pluggin' away at Carter with some tenacity, he might make for an exit elsewhere. I'll cover the other side like Wild Bill suggested. If we can clear this place out, we can start takin' it down."

Katy tipped her head slightly to the side, and considered Logan, Bill and Jackie. "Y'all know that Carter asked fer a duel from Mister Wilder, right? An offer that was accepted, though I can't rightly say why since the upper hand here clearly ain't with Mister Carter. Y'all may not know what sort of pain Mister Carter has caused Mister Wilder, but suffice it to say it ain't a small amount. So if Mister Wilder wants ta settle this with Carter once and fer all, man against man, I ain't gonna rob him of that chance. I'll be there ta make sure it's all on the level. Or so much as I can. But I ain't gonna ambush Carter between now and noon tomorra. He tries ta hurt anyone on the way out, I'll take the sunuvabitch down. But my opinion is we let Carter go for now, and see how we can help Mister Wilder prepare fer his showdown. I used up the better part of my tricks today, but I'm sure James has gotta few things up his sleeve. Or at least I hope he does."

"I'm afraid I don't know the man, though I can gather a bit from what I've heard, and I can understand if the Wilder fella wants to settle this mano a mano with Carter, but I don't know that I trust Carter to his word. He could just run and never come back if he wanted to. To be honest, I don't see why he would show up for the duel. Even if he does kill Wilder in the duel, he's got enemies lined up on all sides waitin' to take him down or take him in. Rather than havin' to go chasin' after him, I'd rather we just finish it now. Though if you wanna sit this one out, I'll respect that," he said.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

As Logan and Katy are chatting, the bodies of the men killed by Wild Bill twich, stir, and then stand up. Logan is oblivious to the bloody headless corpses...until three of them reach through the hole in the wall and attempt to pull him right back into the saloon!

As Maddox yells, bits of furniture fly throughout the blinding, flashing cloud of light. A chair whips by Von Steinhof's head, while another goes wide near James Wilder...no telling who that was aimed at.

((OOC: The Bella Union goes.

First, it makes a Notice roll to see if it spots Sebastian setting up explosives.

14:33, Fri 25 Nov: Bella Union Saloon rolled 2,0 using d10-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 4,2.  Notice.

Nope, it does not. So it focuses on the main room.

It doesn't like that Logan escaped, so it's going to animate three of the dead bodies in the room and send them to drag him back inside.

The animated meat puppets move to the hole in the wall, then make a Group Grapple check against Logan. There 3 of them, so the grapple check gets a +2 Gang-Up bonus.

10:50, Today: Bella Union Saloon rolled 5,6 using d6+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 3,4.  Zombie grapple.

Logan, make me a Fighting roll to avoid being hauled back inside the house.

The Saloon then makes an attack against Von Steinhof, whom it still doesn't like, and Darius Carter, who is the one who made the hole in the wall to begin with.

It still has to deal with Nic's obscure penalty, which is a -6 on all attack against people inside the cloud.

Attack vs. Von Steinhof: 10:54, Today: Bella Union Saloon rolled -3,-3 using d10-6,d6-6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,3.  Throwing. Flat miss.

Attack vs Carter: 10:54, Today: Bella Union Saloon rolled -1,-3 using d10-6,d6-6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,3.  Throwing. Another miss.

Card: 9S))

Zek saw Nic, gloating over the death and chaos as he stood on the top Balcony. Coming down the stairs-between him and his targets, where a bunch of panicked roughnecks. Just desperate to escape this hellish saloon. Zek would have to push past all of them, a rough feat even for him.

Zek grits his teeth, and a miniature whirlwind forms about his body. He leaps, and boosted by the wind shoots into the air, easily clearing the stairwell he was on and slamming directly into Nicodemus. Zek was not concerned that his current course would lead Nicodemus and himself crashing over the banister and slamming into the ground floor. At least Zek would have something soft to land on...Nic himself.

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

James runs through the cloud of flashing light and legs it for the Bella Union's front door...but is brought up short. The main entrance, as well as all the windows on the ground floor, have been boarded up!

Only one window on the ground floor is missing the plywood boarding--the one near the overturned poker table where Carter had been exchanging gunfire with someone outside. now, however, three bloody figures without heads are grabbing at someone, trying to haul the poor man back into this hellish place...

((OOC: The southernmost door is boarded up, so you'd need to get through the boards to get out that way. There's a large hole in the southern wall you could make for, but there's a group of three headless zombies there trying to haul Logan back into the saloon around it, so you'd need to get through them first.

The boards were described in other threads before Wilder got to the Bella Union, so I'm sorry for not getting a better general description there before you joined in. Basically, the windows and door on the ground floor of the Bella Union are impassible without effort. Since Wilder was focused on getting to Bones and Carter, he may not have gotten a good look at the room before now.

If you want to run, you can, but if not, well, you still have an action.))

Re: Chapter 5.4: Shootout at the Bella Union Saloon ((Deadwood))

Wilder's gun sounds, and one of the meat puppets flops down again, right arm shattered and hanging oddly. The other two are distracted long enough for Logan  to pull free and into Katy's arms.

Meanwhile, the unholy breeze beneath Zeke twists and whirls as he leaps into the air. The sorcerer snarls as the mountain man leaps at him, but he's not quick enough to avoid him nor strong enough to stay on his feet. The pair go crashing off the balcony and down into the Texas Twister below.

Nic screams as the whirlwind catches him and sends him flying hard into the blocked-off plank of wood over the doors. "Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~ {*CRUNCH!*}

And then he flops to the ground and lays there, still and silent, head twisted at an unnatural angle, eyes staring blankly at nothing.

((OOC: one of the House Puppets is Incapacitated by Wilder's shot. That won't necessarily keep it down, however, since these things are basically telekinetic puppets, so it has Fast Regeneration. But if it does regenerate, it won't have the use of one of it's arms, so that's something at least.

I roll to see if Nic manages to stay on his feet.

10:45, Today: Nicodemus Whateley rolled 1,3 using d4,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1,3.  Strength (Push).

Nope. That's a Success and Raise for Zeke, so Nic is pushed 2 squares off the railing and down into the main floor.

Since it's a drop of about 10 feet, he takes falling damage. I get a 6, which means he's Shaken.

But he also fell into the area of Zeke's windstorm, so he needs to make a Vigor roll and be Shaken again.

10:55, Today: Nicodemus Whateley rolled 1,2 using d4,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1,2.  Vigor.

Fail. Nic is Shaken again, which actually causes a Wound. He has no chips left to soak with, so that Incapacitates him, as the Nic you've been fighting here is a Henchman instead of a full Wild Card.

Cynthia Burns, meanwhile, just uses her action to run for her life off-screen, so she's really no longer involved in this.))

Finding their way to the till and/or outside partly blocked by the general chaos, the hardcases start shooting indiscriminately to clear a path. The one upset about his friend isn't hitting anything, but the rest of the desperadoes make good demonstration of being longtime killers.

[[No idea who's where by now, so the hardcases just plug at whoever's nearest/in the way, zombies included, with the exception of anyone still in the light cloud (if it still exists) and Zeke 'cause he seemed to be a friendly.

They'll actively try to hit Carter or James if they can, one being loudly touted as paydirt, the other loudly proclaiming himself hostile to their sort.
