Chapter 6.3: There Will Come A Reckoning ((Deadwood))
quote:
And I shall strike down upon them
With great vengeance and furious anger,
And they shall know that I am the LORD,
When I lay my vengeance upon them.
--Ezekial 25:17

For the LORD of hosts will have a day of reckoning
Against everyone who is proud and lofty
And against everyone who is lifted up,
That he may be abased.
--Isiah 2:12

Now what will you do in the day of reckoning,
And in the devastation which will come from afar?
To whom will you flee for help?
And where will you leave your wealth?
--Isiah 10:3

Some Mood Music

September 17th, 1880. Afternoon. Mint Gambling Saloon, Deadwood, Sioux Nations

Rain washes the streets of Deadwood, beating down on all passers-by. A motley band of heroes, lawmen, and the walking dead wind their way up the muddy street. People scurry for cover, perhaps out of need to get out of the rain, perhaps to get out of the scrutiny of the storm walkers. By the time they arrive at the Mint, no one is left on the streets save the preacher, the stubborn brave, the lady with fiery hair, the Austrian soldier, and the mountain man.

The approaching group is no less motley--A tall woman in a black hat and duster, an average man with an easy manner and a US Marshal's badge, a short and bow-legged prospector, a lanky gunslinger with a streak of white in his hair, a man wrapped all in bandages, another tall woman dressed in jacket and jeans with an odd rifle strapped on her back, a half-breed bounty hunter taking in all of his surroundings, and finally what looks like the late Wild Bill Hickok, who looms over the rest of them like a dark cloud.

Inside the Mint, two Cheyenne Dog Soldiers mill about. One of them, a man with wild hair and an interested gaze, moves cloer towards the pool table where a neatly dressed lawman and a shadowy figure in grey suit and top hat prepare to play. The other Dog Soldier, a woman, sticks close by a tall Irishman in a cloak and buckskin clothing. Meanwhile, a Welsh bounty hunter and an Arkansas hardcase drink at the bar while a dapper barkeep with an impressive beard keeps watch over the whole affair.
