Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Susan let go of the book, and stumbled back against a nearby wall, and slumped into a chair.  she was shaking and looked a bit pale.
"I...what...what happened??  I couldn't....couldn't stop....It just kept..."
She shook her head, panting a bit as if from exertion, and glared at the book.
"What the hell IS that thing, the Necronomicon?!?"

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Rory seemed to have gone pale himself. "Sorry, I lost control. I couldn't get the book off you, I didn't know what the spell would do, but something that potent... and then I... I didn't mean to use my powers on you. Sorry."

Rory put his head down and was half speaking, half muttering. "You must really hate me now. I'm some kind of monster who forces people to do stuff."

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Susan frowned up at Rory, then started laughing wryly, smirking a bit.  She spoke with affectionate sarcasm.
"Yes, Rory....I absolutely hate you for saving my life.  How dare you, sir, use your powers to make me stop doing something that was probably killing me."
She started laughing, perhaps too full of nervous energy to stop.

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Rory didn't seem to know how to react. He started mumbling again. "Thanks."

He offered Susan the best smile he could master, clearly still concerned about the whole incident.

There was a long pause before he spoke again. "Sometimes, what I can do scares me... I don't know how you still treat me like... like a human. I'm not that different from half the monsters we fight."

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Susan's laugh died slowly as she looked at Rory with amused annoyance.
Sighing with tired and affectionate frustration, she got up and walked to Rory.   Her face pinched a little, in obvious anger, and she punched Rory, hard, in the arm.

Then she glared up at him, her finger wagging almost in his face.
"Knock that crap off!!!  A 'monster'?  Really?!?  I KNOW you're not that stupid! "
She put her hands on her hips, looking like she was ready to fight him, if she had to, to keep him there to listen to her.
"I will NOT stand here and let you badmouth someone whose saved my frickin' life TIME AND TIME AGAIN!
I mean, really, Rory, we've seen REAL monsters, both human and non-human, and being 'normal' has NOTHING to do with what you really are!"

"You're right, you're right. I'm sorry. It's just that I'm changing, my powers are growing and sometimes, I just get petrified at the thought of where they will end up." Rory offered Susan a sincere smile. "Thanks, you always know how to make me feel better."

Rory rubbed the back of his neck. "You know, we haven't really talked lately. Not without monsters barging in and stuff. Maybe once this snake stuff is sorted, we could go for a milkshake or something."

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Susan's smile at Rory's relaxed stance changed to one of surprise as he asked her the next question.   She blinked, obviously a bit thrown off guard by the proposal, but nodded quickly and somewhat nervously, her smile returning, if a bit rueful.
"I...I'd like that, Rory.  That sounds...well, like just what we need."

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Rory seemed to relax and smiled a bit after Susan's response. "Great, I'll look forward to it." He turned his attention back to the book. "Sorry, I didn't expect the book to be that dangerous. I should have been more careful. Actually, I can't believe that something that dangerous was left out here in the open."

The teen took off his shirt and wrapped it around the book, picking it up carefully. "We should probably take this out back until my dad gets here."

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Susan had turned to look at the book, thinking with narrowed eyes.
"To be honest, I'm almost suspicious that someone intentionally left it here, recently.  Perhaps even to trap someone like us.  This book can't be new, or it would have snatched someone before this. "
She noticed movement from Rory and turned towards him.
"Yes, we need.......need to....um..."
Rory's bare chest, seemingly rippling with muscles to Susan's eyes, appeared to take up the entire room.  The audience would practically see the "light shining from above" to highlight the handsome man's physique, as Susan's eyes blinked wide and she blushed, her body obviously in the midst of all sorts of hormonal shenanigans.
Turning away with almost painful effort, Susan stared hard at the wall, almost as if trying to memorize every detail of the shelves and wallpaper of the library.
Her voice was very casual, but might have sounded a bit TOO casual.
"Um...yes, we need....need to do something.....something involving your father....yes, that sounds good."
She nodded, as if that made perfect sense to her.

Rory's father shows up and heads over quickly when he see's his son undressing.

"No shoes, no shirt, no Necronomicon young man. So where is this snake and book that you had mentioned ?" The professor took out a handkerchief to wipe his brow. It was clear he had run from his class when Rory had called.

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

Rory seemed completely oblivious to Susan's reaction.

When his father arrived, Rory couldn't help but laugh, though in a slightly nervous way. "Well, I can't make any promises about Necronomicons." After composing himself, Rory gave a serious answer to his dad. " I think that the book is dangerous. Susan, touched it and immediately fell into a trance of some kind reading it aloud. I barely managed to get the book out of her hands. We stopped it before anything happened but the magic seemed really potent. I think that I'm immune, it didn't seem to do anything when I made contact but I didn't want to take any risks so I am holding it in my shirt... I was going to take it to the back."

Rory put the book back on a table and peeled the shirt away so that his dad could have a look at the title.

He looked to Rory, "Yes, I believe there should be no harm in that though I would rather disperse any other magic about it not just the illusion. Why don't you." Professor Terrence let out a long sigh, "Why don't you call your friends father Malcolm."

Re: EP 16  Spawn Scene 2

“Hello Mr Denvers. Sorry, I have been working extra hours at the library and have let other things slip.” After the apology, Rory went on to the real purpose of his call. “I was phoning because I found a book in the library earlier, the kind that should be handled with caution. It is almost definitely ancient and seems to contain some long lost lore but I am unable to access its contents. I was hoping that we could look at it together.”
