There is chatter in the air as students wander the halls joining their cliques and talking. Zoey and Susan are talking and the others are leaning on their lockers.

Rory looks distracted and as the camera zooms in on him he can hear the thoughts of all the students in the whole school. It is very distracting and a bit maddening.

Zoey opens her locker and rips the door off it's hinges. This causes several students to look over.

As they do though the locker looks fine and Zoey has a surfboard in her hands.


Everyone has a two step boost in their powers but using your powers adds a die to the trouble pool.

Allura blinks, "Uhmn Zoey, why don't you put that surfboard out by my bike huh ?" Allura seems a bit shocked and looks around.

Zoey looked surprised also and looked at the surfboard, "Um, yeah.  Thanks Allura.  I'll be right back guys."

She shrugged and headed out to the parking lot with the surfboard.

As she leaves the school the surfboard turns back into the school locker door in Zoey's hands. Luckily there are not too many students in the parking lot.

"What the..?"

She set the locker door in the side car of Allura's bike and covered it with her jacket.  "Somebody's messing with me.  Great." Zoey went back to her friends.

Susan was in a good mood as she moved down the hallway, speaking casually to various groups,  though  none for too long.  Though the smile never left her beautiful and glamorous face, it seemed to the audience almost like she was trying not to "push her luck" with any of the casual conversations,  just making small talk about the weather or classes, but not sticking around long enough to have to speak about anything substantial, and possibly awkward.
So not was with a good hearted and affectionate smirk that she approached Zoey after the girl came back inside after what Susan was calling "the surfboard incident".
" It's good to know that there's one less locker door to terrorize the world.  Are you feeling okay?"
The pretty brunette asked the question lightheartedly,  obviously expecting a simple answer.

Zoey smirked but nodded, "Yeah Im great.  But somebody is totally messing with me Suze.  Oh, which reminds me.  Allura, I set that in your side car for now, and covered the locker door with a coat.  I'll um, grab it later I guess."

She turned to look at her locker, or what was left of it and frowned.  "I guess its a good thing I dont keep anything important in there."

"No problem, why don't you get to class, I will try to cover don't know how though."

She shrugged.  "I wouldnt worry about it right now.  If something comes up I'll deal with it. Thanks though.  So, what class do we have right now?"

Susan nodded, then frowned with concern.  She seemed about to brush off the 'joke" like Zoey did, but changed her mind.
" Someone? ?"  Who would do this?  You don't think someone,  you know, 'knows' about us, do you?"

"Susan you think maybe you could create a fake stone locker door for Zoey ?"

Zoey looked around the hall a moment then sighed.  "I dont know, to either question.  You two aren't playing tricks on me are you? Im pretty sure it was magic or mind tricks though."

"Ok I wouldn't out you little minnow to the whole school. Seriously, how hard did you pull on that door ?"

She smiled at her taller blonde friend, "I know you wouldn't do that, either of you.  And you know I wouldn't do that to you."

"I just opened it. Well, I didnt think I was being rough on it.  Maybe Im, 'growing' again."

Rory hears the thoughts of his friends along with everyone elses thoughts.

Zoey was shocked with the door being pulled off by herself.

Allura was shocked at another locker door appearing and was freaked.

Susan was wondering if Rory would invite her to the dance.

Susan shrugged.
" You know that I'm all about keeping secrets,  and I think that Rory is the same way.  perhaps you just got distracted and forgot your strength?   As soon as the hallway clears a bit, I'll make anew door, if you'd like."

Zoey laughed, "Yeah you're probably right. It wouldn't be the first time I forgot that.  Um, yeah sure.  Thanks Susan."

She looked at the locker again and shook her head. "But a surf board?  That's just weird."

In reply to Zoey Krass (msg # 17):

Susan frowned in confusion.
" Wait, how did that happen again?  I thought you did that."

"Nope, not me. Last I knew I couldnt change things.  That's why I said I thought someone was messing with me."

"Well a surfboard fits you, and it could have been something worse."

Thoughts for Rory ~Come on, come on let's move along I was thinking on my feet~

"You know what, that does sound fun.  I'll try it out later I think.  You guys want to go surfing with me?"

Susan bit her lip, thoughtfully. " Um...actually,  this could be very serious,  then.  I'm not sure I could even do that.  If we have some kind of magical prankster loose, that is trouble.   I'll try to see if I can find anything unusual when I have some privacy.   it can't be a coincidence that you were targeted. "

"And just when I thought things were becoming 'normal' again.  I cant think of anyone who would do that to me.  Not like this anyway.  If you dont find anything let me know.  I'll talk to Havren and see if he's ever heard of something like that before."

She looked thoughtful, "You really think someone is targeting me?  What else could they do?"

Susan shrugged, helplessly.
" This is just speculation at the moment.   I tend to go straight to 'worse case scenario'.   But I'll let you know."

"If that's the worse case scenario, I think I could handle that a little bit better.  But this is totally strange."

Susan chuckled.
" I suppose we've dealt with bigger threats.  I'm just paranoid about being, you know,  'outed' to the school.  Okay,  I'll go see what I can find out."

The Jewish sorceress tried to find a quiet, deserted part of the school,  and cast a ritual to try to track magical power sources nearby

Zoey turned to Allura after Susan left, "So how about it?  Want to go surfing with me or what?  Oh, hey have you seen Sam today?  Maybe he'd like to go with us, and Hal too."

"Nothing meant short stuff but my hair is still drying out from the last time we went to the beach.  Though I could buy a surfboard for the future. I haven't really seen Sam today but it is early."

Zoey chuckled, "I'll dry you out after. I'll talk to Hal at swim practice when I see him and see if he wants to come too."

She glanced down the hall for Sam and found her class schedule and frowned.  "You know sometimes I wish Pops would let me do home schooling."

Rory looked around with a slightly guilty look. He didn't seem to be paying attention to the conversation and soon began rubbing his head as if he were trying to focus his thoughts.

Rory seemed to be struggling more and more and now had both hands over his ears. "CAN EVERYONE JUST BE QUIET FOR A MOMENT, I CAN'T HEAR MYSELF THINK HERE!"

A few students look over towards Rory when he shouts.

He can hear a few thinking he must have a hangover. What's wrong with brain boy, and a few other things.

Zoey looked over when she heard Rory shout.  "I'll be right back guys."

She walked over to where Rory had been to see if he was okay, and to find out what was going on with him.

OOC :   Susan was looking for a quiet spot to cast a detection spell.  Did she hear Rory ?

Susan did hear Rory he was kind of loud.

Turning around,  Susan walked quickly back towards the noise Rory had made, worry written in her face.

Walking up to the handsome,  but loud, young man,  Susan spoke quietly to him, though she spoke through a smiling face, teeth clenched with worry.
" Rory?   You okay?  You're safe, big guy. it's all good"


If Rory was listening to her thoughts,  they were less comforting.

~ for crying out loud, is he TRYING to out himself? !?!  calm down, dammit!!  what's wrong with......oh crap...~

Rory could probably tell that the words weren't meant for him to hear, but was just the frantic woman's paranoid inner voice.
Then, the last couple of words were different,  as Susan began musing.
~wait a minute....first Zoey's locker, now Rory is having, um, trouble.   what's REALLY goingon here?!?!?.~

Zoey met up with Susan and Rory and nodded. "What's up Rory?"

~This is going to be an interesting day.~

"Wow we weren't that loud were we ?"

Woooo someone's got a hangover.

Rory looked up with an embarrassed look on his face. He took a few deep breaths and tried to compose himself. Then, he did his best to sound a bit groggy as he spoke loud enough for anyone around to hear. "Sorry, rough night."

After a few moments, he turned back to his friends and spoke in a voice that only they could hear. "I don't know why, I just can't shut it down, I can hear everyone..."

Zoey leaned against the wall near Rory and nudged him gently.  "Anything we can do to help you?  I cant imagine what it feels like."  She looked at him concerned.  "What have you tried?"

Susan blinked her eyes in concerned confusion.
" When you say 'hear', do you mean. ..'hear'?"

Inside, she was trying to keep her thoughts benign,  but failing.
Her thoughts we t to memories of her kissing Rory,  and the harder she tried not to think about it,  the more vivid the memories were.

Zoey glanced around making sure nobody was eavesdropping.

~I know somebody is messing with me today.  Rory has bigger problems though right now.~

Rory seemed to be struggling to focus as Zoey asked her questions. "Mostly, trying to block out the noise. I don't think that there is anything that you can do right now, maybe I should go to the temple, they may know of a technique to block out external noise."

He gave a nod to Susan though he seemed to have gone slightly red. "I can't stop it right now."

"I'll take you, schools used to me blowing it off, you just need to give me directions to this temple."

~Temple ? Rory is religious I hope I don't burst into flames.~

Zoey nodded and looked to her friends, "I'll cover you guys while you leave.  I'll tell the office you got sick or something.  Give your dad a call though Rory and let him know too."

Rory tried to offer Allura a smile. "Ok, thanks... It's probably not the kind of temple that you are thinking off."

Rory seemed to zone out for a moment. Eventually, he nodded. "Call my father, got it."

Allura nodded, "Hey if the brain boy want's to play hookie I am all for it, just a temple is an odd choice." She gave Rory a smile and headed out off to her bike.

"Susan, want to come with me?"  Zoey asked her friend and headed off to the office.

Rory followed Allura with his hand on his head. As he approached the bike, he made a comment. "I should get one of those, then we could race... You'd win off course."

Susan blushed fiercely at the realization that Rory was, unintentionally,  reading her mind.  She felt like a total perv.
She tried to concentrate on thinking about something neutral,  like song lyrics, but in her slightly panicked state she could only remember Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl", which was NOT helping.
She followed along, though,  hoping to get outside to use her magic to better shield them, as her Bubbe had taught her

"I would love to race with you all. Though Zoey would win if it was jetskis." Allura smirked.

Hmmmm Rory in a leather jacket on a bike would look good.

Allura hopped on her bike and got the locker door out of the way so Rory could sit in the side car.

"You can concentrate on your phone call and leave the driving to me."

Allura revved her bike and took off.

Rory hadn't noticed Susan follow them, though he went a bit red when he heard her think about the Katy Perry song.

He breathed a sigh of relief as the bike began moving and the thoughts in his head started to turn to white noise, as they meshed together, appeared and disappeared. He shook his head pretending that he had not heard Allura's thoughts. "She probably would at that."

The young man took a deep breath and called the 'Dad' entry in his phone.

A strange voice comes from the phone before it even rings.

~Enjoying the present son ?~

Then Rory hears professor Terrance, "Hello Rory, What is it ? Aren't you at school ?"

Zoey walks into the school office, her choice of clothes pushing the schools uniform policy, and smiles at the secretary. "Good morning.  Rory and Allura are leaving for the day, Rory's really sick.  He's going home and called his father to let him know, but Allura might be back after she drops him off."

Zoey manages to convince the principle of the seriousness of Rory's illness. Since Rory has a straight A record for attendance it seems like they buy Zoey's story though Allura's name being mentioned causes a bit of eyerolling.

She shrugs and smiles as she leaves the office and takes out her cell phone walking down the hall towards her locker.  Bringing up her messages Zoey sends a text to Allura, ~Rory's all set.  Told them you may or may not come back today, up 2 U :-)~

Rory tried to ignore the voice for a moment. He took a deep breath as he attempted to focus.

"Huh, hi dad. It's my hearing... My head, it's messed up right now. I can't stop it... I was going to go to the temple. Maybe they can help."

~ Focus,... ~ Rory shook his head. ~ Son? What... What are you telling me? ~

Professor Terrance, "Are you sure, do you need me to pick you up ?"

Rory took a deep breath.

"It's fine dad, Allura is driving me."

Susan stood near Rory and Allura, her expression worried.
"Do you want me to come with you?  Maybe I can use some magic to help shield you.  I've been researching that very thing."

(Susan is at school.  Rory and Allura are driving on her motorcycle.)

OOC: Sorry, I hadn't realize they'd left already.

Susan watched them leave, then went back inside to fret.

Zoey tucked her phone into her pocket after sending Allura the text, then headed straight to her locker to get her books for next class.  With any luck she'd actually make it on time for once.

Zoey and Susan make their way to their first classes.

Susan and Zoey both feel like their powers are ready to go much more so then ever. Zoey realizes as she taps on her desk with her fingers she has made indents.

She tucks her hands into her lap and tries to pay attention to the teacher, covering the dents in her desk with her books.  She glanced at Susan a few times during class, and watched the clock slowly pass the time.

Susan seemed somewhat oblivious during most of the class, though she paid close attention to the lesson out of habit.   At one point, however, she felt a tingling in  her hands, and looked down to see a crackling of magical energy, and was only barely able to stifle a squeak of surprise as she dismissed the eldritch glowing.   She looked around to see if anyone had noticed,  then sighed in relief when the other students seemed either fixated on the class or as oblivious as she was.

Then she noticed Zoey looking at her, and smiled sheepishly.

The scene switched to between classes as Susan and Zoey walked the halls.

Zoey sighed deeply as she walked with Susan.  "This day is going to drag by slowly I can tell.  How much trouble would you really get into if you ditched school for the rest of the day?"

Susan smirked wryly.
" They'd probably assume I was having a relapse of my 'crazy days', and call the police or something.   Though I wonder if I could work up a spell to make them forget, but thst didn't work well the last time. "

"A potion then?"  Zoey shrugged with a half smile.

"It just started off weird today, and I dented my desk just tapping it.  I really feel like being outside today, or anywhere but here.  How about it, want to come with me?  We can split right now during class change."

Susan but her lip, in indecision,  then nodded.
" My magic is actually getting a little. ...off.  So perhaps I'm better off sneaking out, instead of having a 'Rory moment '."

"Really?  I mean, cool. Lets go."  Zoey laughed and headed for the doors.

"So where do you want to go?  Im always partial to the waters, but where ever works too."

Susan shrugged,  obviously distracted.
" Anywhere private.   I want to try something,  but don't want to do a Las Vegas floor show."

In reply to Susan Eisenberg (msg # 77):

"How private? We can go to my place or the cave."

Susan narrowed her eyes in thought.
" We can go to your place.  I might need to use you for an alibi. "

"What are friends for if not for an alibi?  Pops is out today I think so we should be able to just go right up without being seen."

Despite herself,  Susan chuckled.

" I've never heard a better definition of friendship,  I'll admit. "

As the two head for the doors the fire alarm goes off.

Normally it is either a drill or someone pulling the alarm. Though from outside they see smoke coming from the upper classroom windows.

Zoey looked up at the windows and smirked.  "That is too much of a coincidence. Well, Im not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, that's how it goes right?  Come on, lets go while we still have a chance.  The sprinklers will go off soon anyway so looks like schools going to be out. Cool."

Susan looked at the smoke with a worried expression.
"Um....okay, I guess they can handle it."

She joined Zoey and headed off campus.

End Scene

Up in the classrooms several students are coughing from the smoke and crawling back away from the flames. One student is on his knees the floor melting below him and body glowing red.

The girls sneak on off.
