OOC: Who is doing what now?!

This is the OOC thread. It will serve as a forum to coordinate your efforts, a place to discuss anything that doesn't go in the IC threads, and a board where to post... Stuff. In a word (well, three words), the OOC thread.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

A small favor, if you please: if you can read this thread, it means your background has been accepted. Could you please send me a PM, titled "Background", so that I can reference it later without having to dig through some long thread? That would be appreciated.

Additional tweaks to your character should also be posted as replies to said thread, so that we both know where to find them later on :)

Just for future reference, what is everybody's Time Zone? Mine is CEST (Amsterdam, Paris, Rome) or GMT+2; incidentally, it will switch back to CET (GMT+1) at the end of October. (Edit: fixed the acronyms.)

Jedies and Lensmen, please make sure your descriptions are up to date, your tag lines are set, and your character color is consistent. All speech is "direct, colored (each character with their own color)", all descriptions are in past tense. Enjoy your IC.

The IC thread is now open.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Incidentally... The reason I prefer to use a [GM: Game Mechanics here] tag rather than the more usual (OOC: Out Of Character here) one is that, most of the time, a game mechanic isn't exactly OOC: your character is taking an action that is backed by a game mechanic, and quite often, for spellcasters, it's not even a die roll.

Take this excerpt from Zhorr's arrival in the new plane:

[GM: casting Fabricate with Eschew Materials; the resulting product
can cost up to 3 gp.]

This is the very first spell Zhorr casts upon arrival. He's doing it. How is it OOC?

That, and I like square brackets for things that involve numbers :P

Hi all,

I should probably drop.  The weeks of rules discussions pretty much made me lose interest.  To be honest, I don't really like DnD rules.  And the game doesn't really seem to have much else to pull me in.  Y'all can have Tilly and give her to another player.  That should make it easier to get a new person in fast-like.

Personally, I always have a lot of trouble starting IC so long after I've made my character, unless the GM immediately throws in some strong hooks. If IC starts immediately, my head is still swimming with half formed ideas and personality quirks to throw around, but so long after, there's just not much left to provide hooks.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Shall we skip ahead to a minute later (in terms of outside time) when everybody is finished getting their tattoos?

Time: it is now the morning of day -1. At midnight it will be day 0: spellcasters who prepare spells will be able to decide their allotment for day 0. These are the spells you will take with you through the portal.

Just past midnight, at the beginning of day 1, you will start going through the portal.

Once there, you will have about 12 hours (as people go through one at a time, and the portal rests for over an hour after each person goes through) to use (or write down, in Archmage Sider's case) the spells you allocated on day 0.

After that, you will need to let 8 hours elapse before you can prepare your spells for day 1, so that you do not incur the penalty for recent spellcasting; however, if you have a ring of sustenance tattoo, only two of those hours will actually need to be spent resting (rather than, say, crafting magic items that do not require you to cast spells, such as a Pearl of Power or another item worth 1000 gp or less, which would mean it can be made in only 4 hours).

In terms of rest, a single Keep Watch spell will allow the entire party to stay awake while resting: that's story time! Is everyone ready with their first story?

Incidentally, I don't think Archmage Sider will have enough hours on the first day to write down his entire allotment of spells: even Zhorr needs almost 13 hours, and that's considering that he only has spells up to 6th level and almost all of his 1st and 5th and 6th slots will be spent rather than written, which means he only really writes half of his available spells.

Hi all.  As I told the GM, the game hasn't really been that interesting for me.  I think the weeks of discussing mechanics sort of slowly killed my creative interest.  It'd probably be better if you advertised for another Tilly or looked for a replacement.  It shouldn't be hard for this kind of game.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Tilly, I think part of the issue is how would we, as players, create characters that would be able to develop a new world in the specific setting that the DM has created. Some of this is cutting edge as there are no mechanics for what we want to do. Part of it may also be that as characters, the world may be set up as the show "Survivor" and we have to make do with what skills we bring with us.

Doing "Survivor" with 8 Green Beret's, Spetsnaz or SEALS would not be worth the time as they all would be able to survive.

Welcome back. I was about to post a short description of how the works are going to proceed from the point of view of the outside world, but I realized you never actually told me f you want to do that.

Specifically, the idea I had was that Sider would open  portal to the mountaintop, and everyone would leave except him, Mirelinda, and one other person, who would then get his or her tattoos.

A few seconds later (outside time), the first vict... Beneficiary of Mirelinda's attentions would leave, and another would come in.

Lather, rinse, repeat, until everyone has their tattoos. Then somebody would have to approach Pale about the money - somebody with good people skills :P

I have been kindly requested to skip any more unnecessary steps and move directly to the "let's go through the portal already" part of the story.

Pale was asking me, back when, if there was a way to give his WBL equivalent to somebody else. It appears we found one, and there doesn't seem to be particular interest in character-to-character interaction at the moment, so I would presume that this will go quickly.

Tilly, if you would like some tattoos please let me know; otherwise, can we assume that your own allotment goes into making a second kit?

As for tattoos, I don't think Tilly would be up for one in her weakened state.  She's on the edge of the grave to start, and it's all she could do to travel to the summons.

Alright then... You can make two kits, one for Pale and one for Tilly. Maximum market price, 25 kgp per kit. Once on the other side, you will be able to Wish for those as if they were standard kits from the paizo equipment lists.

Remember to give them a unique name.

I would in fact like to see some character-to-character interaction, but that is up to the players...

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

At some point during the game, probably soon (-ish), we'll have a certain amount of combat to go through. Now, a 20-round fight can take hours IRL; on RPoL, it can take months.

So, here are a few quick rules for combat:

Players should set up a few contingency plans for their character - that is, announce beforehand what kind of action their characters will take, given certain circumstances.

During combat, each player has 24 hours from the beginning of the round to declare his actions for said round: if they fail to do so, the closest "contingency" action will be taken for their character. If no contingency plan applies, the character is so surprised by the events that they lose the round trying to make sense of them.

Characters who lose their round are considered to be on total defense, unless they specify a different contingency plan for that (e.g., "if I don't know what to do, use 'aid another' on the nearest attacking ally").

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Msg 53 in Prospective players playground.

"Two Miracles cast in a row will allow you to carry across 25000 gp worth of diamond powder, as will two Wishes in a row. Limited Wish can convert that to most things with a market value of 1500 gp or less (up to masterwork items; wondrous items and" the like are out)."

Msg 106

"Just to be clear: one Wizard is allowed to bring across (with a double Wish, one to delay the actual activation of the other until a certain trigger, much like a Contingency spell) 25kgp worth of diamond, meaning you could pass through, trigger the delayed Wish, and then cast another Wish (which you can then presumably prepare from memory the next day assuming you have it in your Spell Mastery list).

A single Wish allows you to create 25kgp worth of "n-of-a-kind" magical items, so "I Wish for two Blessed Books" should give you exactly what you asked for.

Just don't try "I wish for a Blessed Book and..."

In reply to Tilly (msg # 70):

Been working on that also. (On call today so kind of stuck at home) Here is what I first designed and then the current one.

Survival kit of the Pioneer. Kit designed to sustain 4-6 people/medium sized creatures while they start a settlement in the unknown.

Sustaining spoon     5,400
Restorative ointment 4,000
Cauldron of Brewing  3,000
Ring of sustenance   2,500
Handy Haversack      2,000
Shining Wayfinder    2,000
Versatile vest       2,000
Vest of tools        1,800
Wand Endure elements   750
Campfire bead          720
Feather Token-Tree     400
Travelers Any-tool     250
2 Ioun Torches         150
4 man tent              30   25,000

Current version
Sustaining spoon        5,400  -
Restorative ointment    4,000 1/2
Vest of tools (2)       3,600 10
Cauldron of Brewing     3,000  5
Handy Haversack         2,000  (5)
Shining Wayfinder       2,000  1
Wand endure elements(2) 1,500  -
Campfire bead (2)       1,440  -
Travelers Any-tool (4)  1,000  8
Feather Token-Tree (2)    800  -
Ioun Torch (2)            150  -
Healer kit                 50   1
4 man tent                 30  40
Survival Kit(Common) (4)   20  16
map makers kit             10   2  25,000 in haversack  83.5/120 lbs

If we have the healing part taken care of, then swapping the Restorative ointment for a pot of Marvelous pigments might be better as that will give us 2k of gear if you are up to doing a bit of painting.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

I can cast Restorations. Indeed, my starting spell selection includes 5 of them so the mages can keep casting.

I do know that at the least, I need to make myself Adamant Full Plate (with as much magic as I can put on it), an Adamant Shield, and an Adamant Longsword (Adamant needs the least amount of upkeep. Then, I guess, get some defensive magic items. My job is essentially 'tank for all the 20th level pure casters'

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

OK, so... You cannot wish for magic items with Limited Wish, not even in 3.x.

This means items such as campfire beads, or wands of endure elements, or feather tokens, will have to be included in the kits or packs that you are designing now, or crafted by hand by limited-wishing for the components.

The limit I previously stated for Limited Wish was 1500 gp worth of raw materials, so you could for instance "wish for the materials required to craft four wands of endure elements").

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Sounds good. Although 2 wands of endure elements ? Mirelinda doesn't need it (at least not as long as the cold is the problem). And I should hope we have that problem licked before the first wand runs out.

And Mirelinda is firmly planning to limited wish herself a lot of comforts very quickly. In fact, back long ago I had this wonderful idea of putting all her wardrobe in a chest, marking it, and then casting limited wish "I wish for a duplicate of the chest which bears my arcane mark, with all its contents". But for some reason at the time the GM said no...

Oh well, Mirelinda can sew, and with arcane forge she'll have a new wardrobe in no time flat.

Think of the extra wand as back up and can always be used in creating other items that need Endure elements. Besides, if we were all 1st level characters, it would take the three weeks or more to build a decent home. Here we would be like leaders of major countries being dumped on an island and being told to restart civilization with only one staff member each.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

A couple of things about this selection of spells that your character would be aware of...

- Endure Elements, Communal, is actually pretty terrible: the duration is divided among the targets, so it takes the same number of castings as a standard Endure Elements to cover the same number of people for the same amount of time, except from a higher level slot.

- Keep Watch works on multiple people per casting, so you only really need one, or two in case something happens and you need to recast it.

- Bless Water is (M) (silver worth 25 gp) so you will need Blood Money (1 STR per casting) to fuel it.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

And Restoration costs 100 gp or 1000 gp, depending on the use. For us, that will be 100 gp : once again you need blood money (Well, Mirelinda is bringing along a large stash of diamond dust that could be used for it too).

Lesser Restoration, on the other hand, is free (and level 1 for you): go for it !

Problem: you have too many good spell of level 1 to cast : Blood Money, Endure Element, Lesser Restoration, Create Water, Bless Water... Create Water is actually a cleric orison, which means all of us can take it with our one cleric level and cast it at will, so skip it or take it the same way. Stick with Endure Elements (Communal) after all. Forget Bless Water for now. That way you can take 5 Blood Money for your level 1 slot, fueling your Restorations, and 1 Lesser Restoration. And maybe take more Lesser Restorations in your higher level slots too...

Alternatively, be ready to beg diamond dust from Mirelinda, take one Blood Money per Bless Water (different material component, diamond dust won't help), and skip the lesser restorations. Then you can take Enhance Water and Endure Elements as first level spell.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

How does this look in place of the sustenance spoon?

 Robe of Components

Aura moderate conjuration; CL 7th
Slot body; Price 5,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
DESCRIPTION

The pockets of this simple blue robe always seem to carry just what the wearer needs whenever she casts a spell.

The robe functions as a spell component pouch, providing any spell components or focuses that are necessary for the wearer’s spellcasting. The robe can even produce spell components or focuses with a specific cost, though it provides no more than 50 gp worth of such materials in any single day. The materials supplied by the robe are suitable only for spellcasting, and disappear if they leave the wearer’s person or when the spell requiring them is cast.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Wondrous Item, minor creation; Cost 2,500 gp.

Well, it's better for you than me, obviously, since I have Eschew Materials: I'll need to recreate my focus components once, then I'll be set. Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Just a side note: upon their arrival, your characters are suddenly finding themselves some 40-50 years younger.

While they fully expect this, and so won't be surprised, they might (and probably should) still be somewhat affected by it... Even in a world where magic is almost as common as technology is in ours, this isn't something that happens every day - it's on par with a Wish, at least.

I am also still unsure what kind of gift pack Pale wants to get. I would suggest including some masterwork artisan tools, including masterwork artisan tools of spellcraft, since these are mundane items and therefore follow the time-consuming rules for crafting.

Finally, RAW sunk my Marble of Magica by making the Runestones of Power have a cost of 2k per level squared, so I will have to double the price of a MoM to 3k per level squared.

I am really supposed to introduce you guys as you arrive, but on the one hand these days have been a little hectic, and on the other I am not even entirely sure who the next one is.

On the gripping hand, I would like to know the details of the second kit, just so that I can save everything for future use.

I will try to fix this in the coming week, and hopefully then we will be all set to start the first week of in-game time.

Zhorr's first day was more than a little messed up... And it isn't even done yet!

The following ones should be much easier, though, and the GM notes will be much shorter as well.

Prepare this set of spells (some of which may have to be borrowed from Archmage Sider's book, since Zhorr only has so many points of Arcane Pool).

Write down that set of spells that were not in the book yet.

Make this item.

Rest & story time.

I think you should coordinate with Sider... IC, even. These are decisions that your characters need to make. You could discuss it via PM, which should be quicker than IC posts, then make a joint post with your decisions.

However, Pale will have to get to the other side first.

So, Dekar, on your first day I think you should ask Sider for your most expensive possession - the adamantium full plate, which you can immediately make +something, probably +4 seeing how the price limit is 25k.

Then you can ask Mirelinda for the materials required to make it +something else.

Marvelous Pigments may be needed soonish to make such mundane items as whetstones and other tools required for proper weapon and armor maintenance.

Am I forgetting anything?

OK, so Pale's kit was divinely inspired: the gods themselves put their heads together, and devised a kit that will accommodate your needs exactly.

You get 25000 gp worth of nonmagic items, in multiples of two. This means that whenever you decide that something "is in the other kit", you cross off twice its value from the amount of gp remaining in the kit, and get two copies of whatever it is you decided was in there.

There. That takes care of it. Now to post Zhorr's view of Pale's arrival...

Are we, by any chance, 'outside at night' ? I seem to recall something about the lack of light when we discussed our arrival ...

Also, how many restorations/lesser restorations are available ? How many Bull's Strength or similar strength boosting spells ? I ask because I'd like to manufacture as much diamond dust as possible for wishes (not that I can cast them, but Baron Sidar can I think), and the limit is really my strength. I can cheat with limited wishes, but that cost me some of my diamond dust ...

Also, if anyone wants a decent outfit, or jewelry, or anything made of leather, talk to me

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

I can do (Blood Money + Fabricate + Limited Wish (duplicate Restoration)) twelve times. With my strength, that's a net 7,499 gp of diamond dust each time, or enough dust for three wishes and some left over. That's using only my own resources, and for day 1 when I'm already creating a lot of miscellaneous stuff for myself. And I'm thinking a lot of us could use full wishes (although Sidar would have to cast them, I only know limited wish). There's that nice magic item kit, for starters, and it's the only way I can think of to conjure mithral/adamantine weapons and armor.

A Bull's Strength spell, if someone has one, would add 2,000 gp per cycle, enough for one more wish. Better Strength boosting spell would be even better, and might stack. And any Lesser Restoration/Restoration that come my way (I have plenty of diamond dust for Restorations) saves some more diamond dust and frees some spell slots for more cycles...

I could heal ability damage in a few ways:  based on slots for the appropriate levels, I can do 9 lesser restorations, or 8 heals (cure all at once), or 7 mass heals.

No bull's strength, but I could cast mass bull's strength with a miracle spell.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

A nice outfit is easy, I could actually just use the Craft skill and have one in a couple of days, or I can do it in one minute with the arcane forge spell. In fact, I can do several outfits at once with one spell, if there are other takers.

I don't think it's worth using a miracle just to give me a bull's strength, although if it's free (which it seems to be) and you don't have a better use for your spell slot, why not ? But a Heal to restore all lost Strength seems a good use of the spell. Or a Mass Heal, if we coordinate with Sidar and his spellcasting. Or if you don't have anything better to do with your spell slots.

P.S. I have two masterwork daggers and 2 masterwork starknives which are free to anyone who offers them a good home. And if anyone needs a continual flame cast on something, I can oblige too.

Monstrous Physique and its brethren give size bonuses to Strength, which stack with the enhancement bonuses from Bull's Strength.

But then, Mighty Strength is a 4th level cleric spell with a minute/level duration that grants a +8 enhancement bonus: combined, monstrous physique III and mighty strength give a +12 strength bonus for 20 minutes, which is more than enough for several castings of fabricate.

Also, when using fabricate to create components for magical use you get 250 full gp per point of strength used, rather than having to reduce the total by 1.

The cost for this +12 enhancement is... Two Limited Wishes. You recover it in one casting.

A reminder: you cannot reduce your Strength below 1 with Blood Money.

I recover the diamond dust in one casting, yes, but it also costs two level 7 (or more) slots, which I could have used to cast a a full cycle if I can scrounge a level 1 slot. So that's 9000 gp that I'm not making + 1,500 extra gp, which I recover in... ok, two cycles, so it's worth it :)

quote:

That's 250 gp instead of 499 gp per point of Strength then Because Blood Money normally costs 1 point of Strength per full 500 gp... ?

About the Miracle thing...

Miracle, like Wish, can do things that are "in line with" the power level of the spells it's emulating.

Giving somebody Monstrous Physique is probably in line with the power of Greater Polymorph, which is a 7th level spell: even though the spell doesn't quite say that, it lists elemental body III, a 6th level arcane spell, which is actually higher than  monstrous physique III. So that would most likely work as a standard Miracle.

Mighty Strength is a 4th level spell, so a 5th or 6th level spell could reasonably have a target of "creature touched" instead. That would also work as a standard Miracle.

It is, after all, a miracle :P

All right, so if Tully does the buffing with two miracles, and sends 8 heals my way, and 7 mass heals, and a couple of lesser Restorations to clear up the Str I used on my own stuff, that's... 21 full Fabricate that I can do, each fueled by a 30-Str Blood Money, and six of them needing my own Limited Wish to restore Strength. That's...

500*30*21 - 1,500*6 = 306,000 gp worth of diamond dust. 12 full wishes or expensive miracles, and a little left over. No way Baron Sidar can keep up with the wishes :)

Yes, let's do that ! Our wish economy will be going full style for a couple of days at least :)

It's probably too early for wood shape and ironwood since we haven't gotten around to creating wood yet, but it will come. Most of the rest, well, they'll be good for encounters, but I don't see an obvious way to use them for construction. But that's all right, to each his job.

Item creation, well, either start work on something small you'll have finished in one day or two, figuring to have as many as possible ready when the monster come, or start on something big in the hope of finishing it in time to do a lot of good...

Concur with using Rampart to build defenses around the tower.

Now that you mention it Tilly, I think that we might want to pair up on some of the tasks for the group.

1. Shelter
1a. a natural area (Druid's Grove/long term food)
2. Creating items (Magical/normal)
3. Exploring to see what we got.

I can help with 3.

I've got World Wave, so I could pair with someone who knows teleport, zoom out over the land and note anything we see, then teleport back.

I've got Commune with Nature so I can find out about the land within a twenty mile radius; more, if I can apply Widen Spell.

As far as you can see or detect, before Tilly used her meteor swarm there was absolutely nothing anywhere. Afterwards, there are several large rocks and a huge amount of smaller ones, dust and debris :P

Incidentally, the events that are not listed in the IC before Tilly casts her meteor swarm haven't happened yet. Mirelinda listed her intention to do a full cycle of diamond dust creation, so presumably Tilly helped out with that, and then went to the tower... And fun ensued.

Dekar has all his spells, and so does Pale, neither has yet had the chance to cast anything. Mirelinda and Tilly have both spent a certain amount of spells, as have Sider and Zhorr. I have to figure out exactly how many, add stuff to the inventory, post a reply IC... Fun fun.

I think it's also pretty hard to cast spells with a tower sitting on your chest... But I hadn't quite considered that greater teleport has no somatic components. Silly me.

So Tilly just moved the timeline ahead by oh, a month or so, real life?

Some other things remain to be done, but overall I think it's been a good day for your characters... More so if you can stop Zhorr from, well, dying.

You'll never be redundant Tilly, aside from the fact that you have the only miracle in town you bring ideas to the table :)

I am frankly lucky: you guys brought a number of things to the game that I hadn't originally planned for, and the game is better for it. Now if I could just finish that inventory...

enough lesser restoration to recover 5 strength (a couple should do with any luck), 1 miracle to cast (mass) bull's strength, 8 heals, and 7 mass heals. Before each heal/mass heal I'll be casting blood money and fabricate to make diamond powder, a lot of diamond powder.

If Tilly is unconscious, I did save a couple of level 9 spell slots with which I could cast a limited wish to help, but I can only duplicate up to level 5 cleric spells.

Two additional things:

1) Even a cursory inspection will reveal that Zhorr isn't bleeding from a specific wound: apparently his body has forgotten on which side the red stuff goes, he's bleeding through his skin.

2) While Zhorr's Fabricated outfit are not quite the latest Armani collection, they are, in fact, more than simply functional... They are masterwork pieces of clothing, and are designed to be easily adjusted to account for personal taste. You get a nice +5 to your Craft rolls if you modify one of those outfits to suit your tastes rather than starting from scratch. All you need then is a little color to make them more lively, and that is easily provided by Prestidigitation and made permanent with the help of Create Water and Mending.

6, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7 (normal)

Now, what is going on here indeed... An Intelligence check, DC 20, will tell you many things.

Failing that, three checks are needed: Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (Arcana) and Knowledge (Planes).

And I just noticed that Sider passes them all automatically. OK then :P

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

If you meet a wizard who can automatically pass a DC 20 intelligence check, run.

Actually, that's the thing I like the least about D20 system: the die has way too much influence over the final outcome of checks. The village idiot, with an int of 4, is about half as likely as the village genius (int 18, +4) to pass a check that the average guy fails 50% of the times. The curve should be a little steeper than that.

Anyway, the int check was your backup, more of a last-ditch attempt than anything else.

The three checks have a very high DC as well, but they reinforce each other: each check you pass gives the other two a +2, retroactively (so if you pass one, fail one by 2 and fail the last by 4, the first makes you pass the second which makes you pass the third).

Dekar passes two checks out of three.

Tilly: Swapping out Religion for Nature usually doesn't quite cut it... Combining the information you got from your very high Heal check, however, you do figure out some things.

Objects struck by a tsunami are swept up if they are Huge or smaller and are carried along by the wave, deposited in a pile at the end of the wave's journey. Gargantuan or larger objects, as well as structures or objects firmly attached to the ground, take 8d6 points of bludgeoning damage when a tsunami passes through its space-if this is enough to destroy the object or structure, the remains are carried along by the wave. Hardness does not reduce this damage, nor is it halved as damage dealt to objects normally is. Freedom of movement prevents a creature from being carried along by a tsunami but does not prevent damage caused by it hitting a creature.

First an earthquake, then a tsunami.

Yeah, I think you just lost everything that was in the shelter.

Is Helmut's "let there be light" cast at CL 20?

And the Tsunami will do well in separating water from water...

So, I take it you fellows would rather Pale didn't cast? A quick polite word before he finishes his last syllable could suffice...

I think that "Stop, that Pale! You will flood the entire place and ruin all of the equipment that we have." Counts.

It would also end any spell effects that you had going for 20 minutes. The Druid ability is a spell and is not EX so it can be disrupted.

Well, it's not instantaneous, it's min/level, so you could read it as "it stops all magic effects within the area for the duration". AMF, except meaner.

Incidentally, when I mentioned to Sider that the CL for the Endure Elements on you was 40 "should it matter", I didn't think somebody would cast mage's disjunction at it...

Not out of the woods yet... Check the IC thread something got a wake-up call ;)

As for our casters, both Tsunami and Mage's disjunction are spent. Sider, you may complete the casting or interrupt the spell halfway through as Pale did.

AFAIK the bonus spells can not be used in the regular slots.

Per Pathfinder SRD for Clerics/Domains. (added the underline)
"Each domain grants a number of domain powers, dependent upon the level of the cleric, as well as a number of bonus spells. A cleric gains one domain spell slot for each level of cleric spell she can cast, from 1st on up. Each day, a cleric can prepare one of the spells from her two domains in that slot. If a domain spell is not on the cleric spell list, a cleric can prepare it only in her domain spell slot. Domain spells cannot be used to cast spells spontaneously."

That does seem unlikely... Nonetheless, you will get WIS spells for each (spell) level with each (class) level, so if you want to include domain spells in there you can certainly do that.

The other powers from your cleric class will eventually start to work as well.

While you choose your spells, remember that all the spells that you could cast from your slots that you can already cast with your primary class are bonus for your cleric - you don't have to choose them again to cast them from your cleric slots.

This applies to domain slots as well: if you can cast a L1 spell from your domain slots that is already in your primary class's list, you can prepare it in your domain slot. Of course it will be a level 1 spell with a CL of 1, whereas in your primary class it might be a higher level spell and will certainly have a higher CL.

OK, but I still need to know which spells you chose :)

To clarify: you don't get the full list yet, only a few spells, one per point of wisdom modifier.

You can prepare those spells in your cleric slots, and you can also prepare in them any spells that you can already cast (from your other class) and that a cleric with your domains would normally be able to prepare in the same slot.

Was that clearer? :)

So, False Focus, just like Eschew Materials, seems to forget about foci - real, arcane foci, not divine ones. If you have better luck than I did in a google search for an errata that specifies that you can use that in place of focus components please let me know.

Otherwise, I'll have to house rule that, much like Eschew Materials, it works as a focus components unless it clearly doesn't make sense - e.g., when the focus is used by the spell's effect to do something that the divine focus would obviously be unable to replicate.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

We did say that we already allow Eschew Materials to ignore costless foci, as long as they aren't required by the effect (i.e., unless the spell alters the focus in some way).

Now you can make a single object that works as your focus for everything, unless the cost of the focus, as specified by the spell, is higher than its value. You have a 100 gp limit for the material component cost, but I'm on the fence about the focus cost: if you make a Focus that is worth more than that, I might let you use its full value if the spell requires a costly focus.

And it doesn't cost you much, either, since you are going to make magic items for all slots anyway.

And yes, since you have received a bonus feat, you may choose to spend it on False Focus.

BTW: The divine focus for a druid or a ranger is a sprig of holly, or some other sacred plant. Since it's costless, it makes sense that Eschew Materials allows Pale to ignore the need for a DF when casting Druid spells. I'll also house rule that False Focus gives divine casters the same benefit as arcane ones - otherwise we have that the same spell cast with a fake divine focus gives arcane casters an advantage over true divine casters.

Shapechange use to be the big one in prior editions but it is not the all powerful one now.  Is crafting a 1500 gp jade circlet necessary? Not sure yet as the world is waking up.

It sounds kinda cool, actually: your Harrow Deck would represent the inevitability of Fate (since you are lawful). By the power of Fate you would heal, harm, and channel divine spells that require a focus.

I would still advise against it, however, on the grounds that harrow decks are not really suited to be brought into combat. The concept is interesting though, you may want to adapt it somehow.

Zhorr's pitch will still be that you should, if at all possible, to come up with a common symbol representing your diffrences and commonalities.

Well, a Holy Symbol is not a unique object, or even unique to the individual, it is just a symbol of the faith. A priest could carry a dozen around, weight permitting, and they would all work; and they can be objects in their own right or simply painted on something. So in theory I could have one Holy Symbol that's actually an object that's handy to use in combat, and still paint it on the back of all the cards of my Harrow Deck and they'd count as holy symbols...

And that leaves the exact design still wide open. For Mirelinda's part, if we try to come up with a team design, incorporating a star would work quite well...

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Long version: Mirelinda, lawful, can choose a harrow deck to represent the inevitability of Fate. A True Neutral character could choose the same symbol, representing the impartiality of Fate, and a chaotic character could choose the same symbol, representing the randomness of Fate.

I think stars would represent both our spontaneous casters - Tilly please correct me if I'm wrong - and the meteor shower ("falling stars") as well.

Now, if the stars were sets of five-pointers or six-pointers, they would represent an arcane symbol as well. Put them around a winged figure - like for instance a dragon wrapped around an egg - and I think we have covered everybody.

Do please correct me if I'm wrong...

Addendum: your combined chosen domains, their parent domains and subdomains (as applicable), and the Law domain and its subdomains, all become available domains for your faith, should it matter for some reason.

ETA: Divine Foci are objects, not material components, therefore they benefit from the 1/3 reduction when you craft one. A Divine Focus made of mithral or adamantine, with a base cost of 34 gp, would be worth 102 gp, which meets and exceeds the maximum value for a False Focus symbol. Six of them, including a long mithral/adamantine chain tying them together by one another's locket, would have a base price << 250 gp, and would be easily made with a single casting of Fabricate. In fact, you could make a few spares, if you felt so inclined, without needing to spend more Strength.

The base DC is 20 (for the expensive adamantium one, cheaper one would have a proportionally lower DC), Crafting skill is Jewelry.

Unfortunately the dragon's arms were off-center, so the egg is off-center, so the stars are off-center... But you get the idea,

That works as a drawing, but the detached stars won't help much with making it an object. Well, unless it's engraved on a medallion or something.

You could perhaps add a star on the egg. If it were distorted as if painted on the rounded surface, it might be interesting... and the little starts could then be omitted on some versions of the holy symbol, depending on the material.

So we have an egg-shaped symbol, with a six-pointed star and a dragon on it.

And yes it's meant to go on a medallion or be otherwise engraved.

Addendum: we can add a small image in the center of the star if you find one that think should go in there. Perhaps a five points star, to have a more "starry" star in it?

ETA: removed the blank center from the star, elongated the points instead, as per Sider's suggestion. This necessitated a resize of the star, so there was no room left inside, not that the hexagon was that big to begin with...

The only thing is, you are a little short on resources.

Also, forging an adamantine armor (or weapon) from scratch takes literal years; crafting it through Arcane Forge is a better option (as materials, dirt and diamond dust may well work: dirt for the mass, diamond dust for the magic essence - i.e., gp value).

So, how do we do that ? I suppose we would need to cast some sort of divine spell creating adamantine ? But the creation spells tend to be on the arcane side of things, and they specifically exclude adamantine unless we start talking wishes or miracles... and we all know what happened the one time someone tried to call for a miracle !

Bear in mind that that someone was not supposed to use miracles for another 16 levels :)

Any CL 20 divine spell you cast will bring what you cast into existence as a part of the universe.

A divine Meteor Swarm brought into existence meteors, as well as stars (but without light).

A divine Daylight brought into existence starlight - and therefore daylight.

A divine Arcane Forge would bring into existence the forged materials. Using a Miracle to emulate Arcane Forge would do much the same.

This is information Zhorr has, I will have to make sure he shares them with you on his next post...

I'm not entirely sure what happened, really... We were supposed to start trading stories that would then shape the world, but we appear to have hit a snag.

In the mean time, the downtime rules came out, and they look like a worthwhile addition to this kind of campaign, so perhaps we can get ourselves uncancelled and use them to help us along.

Do we have stories to share?

Here's what's gonna happen: your stories will shape the world, so each story will effectively create something; on the other hand, you guys need to level up, so I need to give you encounters, and the stories will provide a base for those.

The way you deal with the encounter will influence the results on the universe. This latter part was inspired by Pale's story, which isn't a classical "kill them all, let Pharasma sort 'em out" encounter, and will force me to mix things up a little.

Not entirely sure yet how I'll do it, but it's an interesting challenge - much more so than adding templates and applying CR adjustments.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

I'm leaving a slot open for Mirelinda's story, just in case, and uploading Zhorr's next one.

I am trying to cut down on the game's maintenance costs, so we are going to use the downtime rules. This basically allows the characters to perform one activity each during the day. We will keep the first day's work as-is, but starting with day 2 I'd suggest the following pattern for the first week:

- Mirelinda and Tilly work on making money (250k gp per day)
- Sider and Zhorr work on rebuilding their spellbooks (9 spells per day each)
- Dekar and Pale work on crafting (4kgp market price per day)

That is about 42kgp per character per day, give or take. Sider and Zhorr won't need to spend money to scribe the spells, it's assumed they use part of their daily allotment to make inks as needed.

Then, after about a week, we switch.

Stories are told one per day: as long as you keep them coming you get time to improve your gear (and give me more stuff to throw at you later on ;) ).

The fun part for me is trying to remember things that happened to a character over 33 years ago and tie it into his story. Back in 1st edition, only Humans could be Paladins but his story line was that he was the Dwarven version of one and was out to redeem himself.

Merry Christmas. Are you restarting this?

What an excellent question...  The one thing I know for a fact is that, if I do, I will be clearer on the goals - not just to the players, but to myself as well.

What happened was, when i started out I had a general outline of what I wanted to accomplish, but no specifics. That's what I mean by "being clearer to myself" with the goals.

As the game progressed, I figured the specifics out: the best way to allow the players to shape the universe would be to actually make them design each encounter - by having them recount an "adventure" from their characters' personal stories.

This would shape the "arena" for their "encounters", and the encounters themselves would shape the world. Obviously I would then adjust the encounters, which would be approximately 20 levels behind in terms of CR, to the actual group that was facing them.

Only, I didn't quite inform the players as to why their "background" stories would be important, nor did I get the necessary feedback. You may remember how well that turned out.

So, yeah. If there is interest in restarting the game, I'll start an entirely new thread with a "the story so far" reintroduction. I will also probably look for a couple of players to reinforce our numbers, depending on how many people are still around and decide to give it a second go, as well as add a couple of house rules to try and streamline encounters.

One of them will be way of handling the encounters that will allow players to finish each round without having to wait for me, by summing up the results of what happened.

It's a bit tricky, because so much of Pathfinder is predicated around combat mechanics, and the premise of the game is that these characters are incredibly powerful entities that are, by their actions, shaping a world, which, put together, effectively means that the PCs' encounters are what shapes the world.

And that means the encounters are supposed to be epic in scope and execution, which is a bit tricky when you are playing by the "balance uber alles" pathfinder rules rather than, I don't know, Exalted or something.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

Happy new year everyone.

I want to say that 2021 wasn't as bad as 2020... But I guess it's been bad in different ways.

Hope you are all okay.

Re: OOC: Who is doing what now?!

I also happen to apparently have forgotten which year we are in, at least in my previous post.

Probably just a side effect of wishing it were 199something again.

Possibly 198something.

Hugs all around.
