Go ahead and hop into the fight, come charging out of the smoke or whatever, if you want to. We can work out what happened later after this is all said and done.

At the moment the group is fighting a Great Unclean One at the gates of Barak Varr (a dwarven citadel and the group's final destination). The current plan is to hold it off until Bjorn can finish casting Banish on it.

Just to clarify where Nigel is:

He is standing right next to Bjorn. He started out a yard in front of him and marched forward every turn but the one where he had to dodge Rufus.

If the demon attacks Bjorn and he has to defend how will that affect his concentration on Banish?

I think the standard for maintaining a spell is pass a Will-3 check - unless there's something more specific referring to Banish or priestly magics.

I figure Bjorn's will is probably something around 14 or so, I don't like the odds of him rolling an 11. I see a sacrificial dodge in Nigel's future...

Also, didn't the demon drop that flail? What was its other attack with?

Probably something that Ogindur should be helping with.

The rule is will-3 if one has to make an active defense roll. This, of course, applies to the 'concentration' that is required while casting. I'm not sure it actually affects spells considered to be 'on' in terms of maintaining. I just think you lose maintained spells only if you become unconscious.

Will is 13, so I have a 50% chance of losing the spell if I have to defend. ^_^

Yes, actually... that's something that he 'would' do. He's a shield character aiming to defend, but has opted to get a few quick shots in as he moved into the fray next to the group.

After this attack, (or with direction/suggestion from another character) he'll start moving into a more defensive position.
