Remembering Jeffgson

Folks - some of you who have joined this game will have noticed that officially, the game "owner" is Jeffgson.   The oldest post on this board was from Sun 4 Nov 2012, which is when Jeff set the board up.   It isn't the oldest place on RPOL where MTG is played of course - that was a board run by "Crmnlst" - which he eventually closed a few years later.   That was where I first met Jeff - probably around 2010 time-frame... possibly even earlier.  Jeff decided to set up another board because Crmnlst's board was very busy at the time, and we needed more tables!  The number of players has waned since then sadly.

Jeff was an interesting character - when we first met, he had just turned 50.  He was unfortunately beset by numerous physical and mental health problems - and posted prolifically from his bed, often juggling multiple games - though with occasional periods of silence when he was too ill to do so.

He could be a bit of a rules lawyer, and did have a habit of rubbing some people up the wrong way, but he was fun to play against - pulling out interesting card combos and making challenging decks.

So - what happened to Jeff and how come he is no longer around?

Well, that question crossed my mind again as I bumped the advert just now, and, suddenly recalling that he had once shared his facebook ID with me many years ago, I decided to look him up.   Well, I'm sad to report that what I suspected might have happened did - as his Facebook page is titled "Remembering Jeffrey Gluckson".   His last post there was the 7th December 2014... only a few weeks after his last login here.

That post read:
quote:
News Update: As a consequence of my illness, I now weigh only 128 pounds.  The last time I weighed so little I was only 15 years old, 38 years ago.
I finally feel well enough today that I'm having eggs, sausage, and home fries with cheese for breakfast instead of a bottle of Boost.

If you are wondering why I'm writing this - it is partially to justify the fact that I have kept his board alive in his absence rather than set up my own, and partially for those of you who've been around long enough to remember him - I thought it would be a bit of a tribute.

If you knew him, feel free to post any memories you care to share in this thread.

Well shoot.  I thought I would hop in and see how things were going. This news saddens me.

Every game I played against Jeff he ALWAYS used a commander deck, whether it was a game of Commander or not.

Anyhow, When I first started playing we were playing a regular game and he was so excited when he dropped his "Commander" onto the playing field, which I promptly banished into oblivion with some card or another.  I expected some form of smack talk or something.  His response ...

Turn 4

Untap. Upkeep.  Draw.

lol.  Good times.
