Re: Need of action

FYI - Latest version of spreadsheet has been uploaded - 10.9.

Fixed a legality issue - hopefully got that issue well and truly sorted now.  Plus, hopefully fixed the issue with the Commander missing from the Draft Post.. :-)

Re: Need of action

Eternal Masters dropped and I popped by my local hobby shop for a look. Then I bought a box and wandered home in a stupidly drunken "how much did I spend/get" phase. The people I know did not do so well with boxes, but were remarkably lucky with packs.

I know that we don't have to contend with rarity, really, on this board, but I use this forum as a sounding board for my decks, which I then play locally. I also support my hobby in this way (and by supporting me... well, even if you did nothing else I've got your back).

Looks like another modern Masters. which was just a bunch of re-prints. I doubt you'll have to update anything. I'll double check though

It's actually Eternal Masters, with most of the cards reprinted aimed at the Legacy and Commander formats.

Right. ANOTHER modern masters. as in another similar-like-thing.

Yeah, looks like another reprint. nothing new.

Re: Need of action

Interesting question I ran across.

How do the new Eldrazi that move cards from Exile into the graveyard work with Imprint?

For example if I have exiled a card to make it imprinted on a Mimic Vat and my opponent plays an Eldrazi that moves that card from Exile to the graveyard, is Mimic Vat still capable of churning out clones of the creature? Or because it has been moved to the graveyard is it not imprinted anymore? Or does Imprint just not work that way and I am messing something up?

Re: Need of action

If I recall correctly, if an Eldrazi Processes an Imprinted card, you lose the Imprint. It's the same with other abilities like Cipher or anything tucked in a Hideaway land. The card changes zones, so it gets treated as a new card for all intents and purposes and anything it's linked to in a different zone "forgets" it.

Re: Need of action

In reply to The MunchKING (msg # 959):

from what I understand, there are "different" exiled card. like if you have something exiled for a commander, vs exiled with time counters, or exiled to come back on next end phase.

anything in one exile pool can't "jump" to another exile pool. so an imprinted, exiled card is exiled for that card. and that's that. at least, it's how I'd interpret it.

Re: Need of action

There's only one Exile Zone, though, no matter how many different "pools" you make. And you can Process anything in the Exile Zone--cards that have been Exiled because you put them there, cards exiled by a special ability like Suspend, Hideaway, Cipher, or Imprint--all of these can be targeted by a Processor effect. And Commanders are in a special zone called the Command zone, not the Exile Zone proper.

Re: Need of action

Matt, How does your excel "shuffle"? I've seen a few times when clearing the table, and doing an initial draw, i get allot of the same cards I get in my last initial draw. just wondering if it's not "shuffling" like it needs to.

Re: Need of action

Effectively, the order of cards in the deck is like Shrodinger's cat... you only know what the next card is when you draw it.  So "shuffling" is a case of just deleting the cards on the top/bottom of the deck and making their place unknown again...

I confess that although the formula randbetween() should in theory be pretty random (although it is technically only psudo-random) I too have seen similar draws in a row...  A third draw seems to then be completely different...  I can only assume that it is a failing with the Excel implementation of random number generation...   I've googled and it does seem to get slated...   Not sure what I can do with my code to make it "more random".   Suggestions anyone?

Re: Need of action

I am not an excel pro, but I did some searching, and the following link (https://www.ablebits.com/offic...ber-generator-excel/) mentions something by Ablebits having a "better" RNG for excel. I'm unsure how it works, but maybe that's usable?

Re: Need of action

Interesting article - but the more I read it, the less I am convinced that there is a problem with Excel's randbetween() function that I use...  They talk about the seed for the pseudo-random number being reset overtime the sheet recalculates.. and the pattern being quite large before it repeats...  yet when it generates a similar looking hand when drawing cards after a game has already been played, I can't believe that it has looped around its pattern...  a) the seed would have been reset multiple times and b) the number of random numbers generated is going to be nowhere near to looping around a pattern....

<scratches head>   I suspect it may be just the human brain looking making a pattern out of coincidences...

Maybe I might code something into the "Initial Draw" macro to record the cards it draws somewhere, so that when you run the macro again at some point on the same table, it can compare against what you previously drew...  maybe then we'll see if there really is a problem with the same cards being drawn... <insert thoughtful emoji>
