Faction: The Rudragni Star Nation

The Rudragni Star Nation was encountered first in HC-317 in the Ultima Black system on the edge of Hegemony space where they attacked a listening post, killing the crew and then engaging against Hegemony Astral Forces in the system, ultimately being defeated in battle and forced to surrender by an element of 7th Fleet - King Squadron.

Through signal intercept, attempted diplomacy and interrogation of prisoners as well as classified forms of intelligence, some basic facts about their society has been determined and disseminated throughout the fleet and public release to aid in public understand and support for the war effort. They appear to speak various dialects of Hindi, a vastly complicated and ancient language stemming from Old Earth. Although at one time, they were believed to be a fractious group of nations they have developed a caste system based on one's birth, placing everyone into a strict hierarchal structure. They possess a strong sense of honor and duty, believe their own culture is superior to others and conquest is their right and obligation and shun individualism for reasons we will address later in this report.

At the top are the Avatars - beings that the Rudragni say are divine agents sent to our world to uplift them and make them into something greater than they are. They are given complete respect and devotion. At this time, no Avatars have ever been observed nor any evidence for their existence has been ascertained. Analysts believe these Avatars are "Holy Men" very likely to be Psychics or otherwise individuals in possession of advanced pre-Scream technology that makes them appear to be god-like.

Below them are the Priest caste - They are highly augmented individuals from what we understand, with both genetic and cybernetic enhancements and modifications. We have been unable to capture a member of this caste alive as they prefer to die than be taken captive, a trait common throughout the Rudragni civilization. Autopsy results show extensive cybernetic implants and radical genetic modification including small percentages of unidentified DNA sequences. They appear to be the ruling class for the most part, only taking directives and submitting to the Avatars. They also manage all diplomacy interfacing and tend to the spiritual needs of the people.

Below them are the Warrior-Merchant caste - Of these we have had the most specimens to examine. They seem to have less in the way of cybernetic augmentation and instead possess a much higher percentage of unknown DNA in their structure. Curiously, they serve a dual role as both fighters and merchants, combating enemies and trading with allies or neutral parties.

Below them are the Laborer caste - They contain high levels of unknown DNA and in fact, even on cursory visual examination do not appear to be human as we understand. They are a hybrid of human DNA and at least one or more unknown possibly alien species. Typical aberrations include, gills, scales, ultradense bone and muscle and a second set of eyelids. They have an unusually low body temperature and are believe to possibly even be cold blooded.

At the bottom of the Untouchable caste - We have never seen them and prisoners are unwilling to discuss their existence except that they made mention of it in passing, perhaps by accident. We know almost nothing about them except that they may not be permitted to board starships at all.

Their conformity and single-minded purpose comes as little surprise when you examine their implants. All of them, contain an extensive neural network connected to an transceiver in their skull allowing them to broadcast their thoughts to each other rapidly, a sort of telepathic network with all other Rudragni nearby. (The exact range of this communication is hard to determine although we have had some success at jamming it, they have developed countermeasures to our ECM rending it less and less effective over time.) Captured prisoners were known to talk nonsense words and syllables to each other, in an effort, we believe, to confuse the translators while speaking via their electronic telepathy all the time. Further more, genetic testing has confirmed that almost all individuals studies are in fact clones. There appear to be a number of patterns in each caste which are repeated in large quantities.

A note on the technology of the Rudragni Star Nation. There is some confusion here as we have seen both technology that equals our own and much more than makes that of the Brotherhood look advanced. In terms of ships and weapons, much of what they have is antiquated by our standards, weapons that are hundreds of years out of date. This presents an interesting question, without ships capable of FTL travel how are they able to reach our star systems? The answer is as intriguing as disturbing: Analysis of the Ultima Black listening post data indicates that before their fleet arrived, a colossal ship of unknown class or type appeared briefly in the system heralding the arrival of the rest of the fleet. It vanished, returning to wherever it may have came from and leaving the invading fleet behind. Prisoners have spoken with pride and scorn towards us about something they call "Timingila" which is the Hindi name for a gargantuan fish from Old Earth legend as far as we can tell. Our analysis leads us to believe they have a battleship which allows them to create a "tunnel" or "wormhole" which facilities the FTL transfer of entire squadrons or fleets between systems. Exactly how many of these incredible devices they possess is unknown, but any information about this vessel or it's capabilities are considered to be priority one.

Examination of captured warships (Ref: Grendel, Drakken) indicate that these ships were manufactured rapidly and with little consideration for quality control. Combined with the fact that most if not all the crew are clones, analysis is forced to conclude that they may be capable of producing vast fleets relatively quickly in comparison to our more traditional methods. More intelligence is required.
