The End of the First Act

Grim and bloody, Tol stands in the chapel of... what god is this?  Her companions, some from Daggerford, others grateful for liberation and vengeful against their former captors stand at the back of the chapel looking at the triumphant ruin and dark decor of this hellish place.  Though there are yet further caves in this box canyon to explore, everyone can sense innately that this marks the end of organized resistance.  This was the origin of all their misfortune.  They help rifle through the dark complex--partly in hope of finding something of enough value to get their lives back on track.

When gathered together the treasure includes:

From the Red Priest:
Plate Mail
Staff
Shield
Amulet

The Red Priest's Chamber:

Golden Flagon (500gp)
9 Golden cups (100gp each)
Tapestry depicting obscene rites
Highly polished full-length mirror

The Adepts' Chamber:
An "Evil Library"
Copper dishes and cups (175gp)

The Temple:
quote:
This huge area has an arched ceiling some 30’ or more in height. The floor is of polished black stone which has swirling patterns of red veins through it. The walls behind the draperies, and the ceiling as well, are of dull black rock, while the west wall is of translucent red stone which is seemingly one piece, polished to mirror-like smoothness. A great bell of black iron stands near the entrance point, with a pair of mallets beside its supports. To the south are several long benches or pews. There are three stone altars to the west, the northernmost of pure black, the middle one of streaked red and black, the last of red with black flecks. At the western end of the temple area is a dais of black stone, with four lesser chairs on its lower tier and a great throne above. The chairs are of bone; the ivory throne is set with gold and adorned with gems of red and black (10 black stones each worth 100 gold pieces, 10 red stones each worth 500 gold pieces, and one large red stone worth 1,000 gp). The signs and sigils upon these seats are of pure chaos and evil. The other walls are covered by draperies of deep purple with embroidered symbols and evil sayings, done in scarlet and gold and black thread. As soon as the party enters the place, black candles in eight great candelabras on either side of the place will come alight magically, shooting forth a disgusting red radiance. Shapeless forms of purple, yellow and green will dance and sway on the western wall,

How the treasure is divided is up to you.

Now that the overt evil has been defeated, your mind begins to regard other matters not considered since engaging in this excursion off the beaten path:

The Merchants Meldar and his daughter Delora need to be escorted back to Daggerford from the Way Inn
Things seemed somewhat amiss at the Way Inn when last you were there--tough to put your finger on though...
Was the silver in these caves a lie?
How are the Drow women getting on in Bowshot?
What could Derval Ironeater do to help develop a claim here?
What arrangements should be made with Ulmyn Andalor?

OOC: What's more who shall continue to accompany you?

Garth Delimbyr: the prodigal son of a prominent Daggerford family, fierce with his Greatsword
Cork: a shepherd turned adventuring Ranger
Edrie Graf: Delfen Yellowknife's senior apprentice
Olaf: A Chauntean of Great Girth
Rewis: A Chauntean of a more pacifist bent with potent healing magics
Celadhel: A Bladesinger apprentice from Laughing Hollow
Adorellan: Celadhel's guardian and servant
Alfonse and Gonzalo: Romantically entwined Amnian men-at-arms

Of course, returning to your next post in the Daggerford militia may help acquaint you with newer and more intriguing possibilities for companionship.

The End of the First Act

Back in Bowshot, Tolantra takes the better part of a day going through everything they'd taken from not just the lair of the Red Priest, but all of the caves under the hills. When she put everything together, it was a startlingly impressive pile of loot. Much of it would need to wait until they reached Daggerford to be sold, but she was sure that they would be able to sell it. Even the contents of the drow and gnoll armories; Daggerford was always in need of weapons and armor to protect its citizens. And they were planning on returning there straight away, anyway.

It had been a fabulous expedition. Tolantra had left the clanhome to walk the wide world, seek out adventure, and grow closer to Haela. Acquiring wealth had been a decidedly lower priority, but she wasn't going to turn up her nose at the opportunity to lay coin by. And there was so much here, it was easy to be generous.

((ooc: I'm going to split the money from the coinage and sellable treasure in two batches. The first is everything up to the priest's lair, split between the party and Alfonse/Gonzalo. The second split is everything from the priest's lair, which is split with the above group, plus Celadhel and Adorellan. In both cases I get two shares, as party leader. Everyone else gets one share.

Total money and non-magical treasure:
Split 1: 1,054 gp per share
Split 2: 890 gp per share

Rewis gets the 51 pp from the Red Priest as a bonus and thank you.))

There were also a number of magical items. Most of them had already been doled out to members of the party, who had made good use of them during the campaign. Tolantra saw no need to argue over them now, regardless of whether a person was staying with the group or planning to move on. She did, however, ask Garth if he was willing to return his potion of healing, since he was intending to retire.

Of the new and unclaimed items, she kept the enchanted plate mail and the elven boots. The drow had taught her well the value of stealth, and such boots were the only way she could hope to move quietly in heavy mail. She offered the red priest's snake staff to Olaf. To the Amnians, she offered his enchanted shield to the Amnians. "You have been our shield throughout this campaign, and helped us all come out alive on the other side. I hope this shield will do the same for you in your travels."

To Celadhel she offered an enchanted long sword that she had been carrying, since none of the original group could use it. "A gift of welcome, and a token of hope for good things to come from this partnership."

((ooc: My proposed split of magical items is this:
Tolantra:
Elven Boots
Plate Mail +1 (selling my original plate mail gives me an additional 300 gp)
Shield +1
Hand axe +1

Olaf:
Scroll with 2 cleric spells - cure light wounds, hold person
Snake Staff +1
Scroll: Detect magic, hold person, silence 15' radius

Balarba:
6 magic arrows +1
Rope of Climbing

Edie:
Wand of paralysis, 5 charges

Cork:
Shield +1
Hand axe +1

Celadhel:
Long sword +1
Potion of Healing (currently held by Garth)

Alfonse/Gonalzo:
Shield +1 - Offer to A/G

Held by Tolantra for Group Use:
Potion of invisibility
Wand of Enemy Detection (8 charges)

The End of the First Act

Okay. So I was using a bit of a scale to locate people on:

Fanatical Loyalty: Balarba
Loyal: Alfonse, Gonzalo, Olaf, Edie
Favorable: Cork, Garth
Indifferent: Celadhel, Adorellan (Dhalcun), Rewis

Because of the way you're ending things, this now looks like:

Fanatical Loyalty: Balarba, Alfonse, Gonzalo, Olaf,
Loyal:  Edie
Favorable: Celadhel, Rewis, Cork
Indifferent:
Offended: Adorellan (Dhalcun), Garth

These aren't static and can be adjusted down the road.  I'm offering transparency because you're a high wisdom character and have considerable insight.

Explanation--

Balarba is a kinsman, and so was always going to remain fanatically loyal as long as she was treated equally with the others.  Dwarves in my world have sort of a communal ethos, so she wanted and got equal treatment.

Alfonse and Gonzalo got much more than they would have expected (the module says they fight merely for revenge), you've made them wealthy  in a short time, cost them little, and taught them much.  They'll be loyal armsmen down the road if you have need to call.

Olaf too felt gratified by the division of treasure, receiving the largest share of magic other than Tol.

Edie got what she felt she was owed, and so there's no real shift in her attitude.  In general, wizards are high-ego characters and difficult to sway.  Moreover, she's already got a master she's apprenticed to, and it would be difficult to shake that.  The gift would have had to have been sizable.

Cork isn't really an adventurer--he's a shepherd and came along for the ride.  But now he has enough to build new walls around his pens. The axe and shield are practical and equal to his expectations.  He'll continue his monthly militia duty well-armed and may pay the fee to get out of it in the shearing season thanks to the coin.  He's favorably inclined, but has his own (simple) agenda, and isn't really prepared to commit beyond his current level.

Garth degrades because he never really felt that your leadership was earned, and considered himself to be your equal.  Getting a cut less than equal to yours, he considers and insult. To give him a lesser share, and then also to request the potion back, he considers a double insult, but complies.

Celadhel has been looking for a sword worthy to be her 'favored blade' and you gave her one.  Moreover you exhibit many of the noble warrior qualities that hearken to the characteristics that aligned men, elves, and dwarves against all foes in ages past, with none or few of the more objectionable qualities.

Adorellan (Dhalcun) is a bit of a sour puss in the best of times.  As a noble hostage of the Floshin house, he views himself as clearly superior to everyone here.  Getting a small cut and no recognition is deeply insulting to him, even if he doesn't care for material wealth.  It's not about to the coin, it's about honor, both barbaric and noble simultaneously.

Rewis genuinely expected very little as he did very little.  He's awed by your generosity, and his loyalty improves a lot accordingly.
