Nereid:
Your mental blast slams into Emperor Penguin's mind, briefly disrupting his cybernetic connection to his hover platform! The centrifugal force generated by Todd's tether sends the Emperor skidding off the edge of the platform!

As he tumbles through the air, through your psychic link, you feel his anger struggling back to the surface of his thoughts.

[OOC: The sudden change in his circumstances gives Emperor Penguin the opportunity to try again to resist your Emotion Control. Test Emotion Control vs his Willpower of 5.]

Todd, Angelfish:
Without Emperor Penguin controling it, the platform is gyrating out of control!

Well, I couldn't convince him to surrender…but…his anger is growing and it is difficult to keep it in check….it's just a matter of time before we have a really angry penguin on our hands.

In reply to Nereid (msg # 87):

[OOC: You beat his total by 1, so that's a Moderate Success; you've suppressed his rising anger once again.]
You can't see Emperor Penguin at this moment--he's crashed to the ground on the far side of a snowdrift, scattering Alarmed Penguins in all directions. Still, you can feel your connection to his emotions; with his anger gone, he feels nothing but sadness and despair. His plans are falling apart around him; he knows that the nations of humankind will never accept him as an equal, and his hubris has led to this; the destruction of his beloved secret colony of penguins.

Re: E2S9 - Secret Penguin Colony - Everyone
So much confusion...

Angelfish finds herself stunned by the sheer insanity of what the team has stumbled into here...  so much so that it takes a few minutes for her to react to the sight of Emperor Penguin's hover platform gyrating out of control above T.O.D.D.'s head!

{T.O.D.D.!Let GO!!!} The confusing mix of thoughts and emotions churning in Nereid's mental link make Angelfish feel as if she's shouting into a storm, but if T.O.D.D. doesn't release the platform, she fears he'll bring it crashing down on himself.

Sighting carefully along the platform's trajectory, Angelfish hopes to time her shot to T.O.D.D.'s release.  On the plus side, concentrating on the shot quells the rising desire to giggle madly and shout "PULL!" - could the penguin's madness be contagious?!

Finally certain of her shot, Angelfish fires!

(OOC: 02:44, Today: Angelfish rolled 4,4 using d6,d6. Hover Platform Skeet Shoot.

Re: E2S9 - Secret Penguin Colony - Everyone
Without Todd as a counterweight pulling down on it's control console, the platform jerks upward and attempts to level itself--taking it directly into the path of Angelfish's missile barrage!

Angelfish, Nereid, Todd:
Orange fire blooms above the frozen city, and blackened bits of aluminum and plastic rain down on Angelfish, Todd, Nereid, and the Alarmed Penguins! They're now Panicking Penguins as they squawk and flee in all directions. Between that, and the rhythmic vibration of the ice beneath your feet, things are becoming chaotic up here!

In all the confusion, there's no sign of Emperor Penguin. He was last spotted head-down in a snowbank on the far side of the central plaza, where he landed after being thrown from the platform.

Meanwhile, in the underground chamber...

Ian, Time Keeper, Ty'daal:
You stand before a green metal wall, with a huge and elaborately-sculpted door with images of sea life decorating it's surface. Icicles cover the reliefs, and there are scrape marks on the icy floor of the corridor that indicate the doors swing outward. Whatever is causing the vibration is coming from beyond those doors.

Time Keeper:
[OOC: Your action probably took the longest, since you were running and carrying Ian. I'm compelling Countdown to Armageddon! You can accept the compel and gain 1 Determination as the timer counts down to the next stage; or refuse the compel by spending 1 Determination to represent the personal cost of hurrying your action.]

"I sorry my power allows me to to follow the flow of time both forward and back but only influence things that might happen not things that have happened"

Time keeper turns to Ian " you have the knowledge to get through this technology. I witnessed us in that room where the machine is we need to get in there. I saw us in there we knocked the ring out of horizontal alignment that saves the earth."

He clears his throat slightly unsure about his next words " in doing so our timelines end ....... Stop..... I don't know cease to be..... But every other future see the world destroyed ..... We need to get in there .... Lets save the world"

Time Keeper:
[OOC: You gain 1 Determination. The countdown timer moves to Magma Flows Coupled!]

The vibration from beyond the doors sets your teeth on edge, and you notice that the icicles on the doors are beginning to drip.

Ian:
[A 12 gets you everything you need, and probably more. Sherlock moment! :)]
You recognize the architectural design; this is a typical municipal building in the Aquan style. It'll have a code-lock used by the Municipal Tide and Current staff who maintain the equipment. Touchpads are typically incorporated into the artwork, for aesthetic reasons... The scales on the sculpted Coelacanth, probably. It probably took Emperor Penguin weeks to find the keypad, and even longer to figure out a working code. Tide and Current workers, in your experience as an investigator, are typically annoyed by security procedures; they pick codes that are quick and easy...

Your third try does the trick, and the doors click apart. Ty'daal's strength can swing them open easily.

Beyond, you see a huge underground chamber. Once it would have been full of seawater, now there are stalactites of ice hanging from the high ceiling, battered by the vibrations coming from a series of concentric green metal rings held in midair by a network of pulsating energy beams!

Ty'daal begins to weave his arms through the air, pulling at the molecular bonds of the frozen water. As he does he separates them from the base of the icicle sending them cascading like icy spears down at the spinning rings.

Todd:
[OOC: If you run, you can get to the doors in one page. Not that you're sure of this in character, mind you.]

Ty'daal:
The first few ice-stalactites vaporize in the support structure of energy beams, but one of the larger ones smashes down on one side of a floating ring, knocking it off-level. The energy beams are unable to pull it back into alignment, and it begins to gyrate unevenly, standing almost on edge and supported only by the vibrations of the adjacent rings!

[OOC: That's a Moderate Success! You need to pyramid up to a Massive Success to shut this thing down. Failures escalate the difficulty, and certain actioins may trigger... side effects. :) Remember that Ian created a advantage "I'm Positive This Feedback Is Bad!" with a free tag that he can bestow on anyone he explains Tidal-Surge Wavionics to.]

The master of time smiles " tidal serge is similar to time stream serge and as the master of time I can ride that wave"

With that he starts to run round the room picking up speed with every second. As he,reached maximum validity he changed direction and using the huge time wave he'd produced struck the ring as hard as he can

OOC: 07:22, Today: Time Keeper rolled 3 using 2d6-7. speed attack. TOTAL 10 i'll grab the free tag as tk can see what Tod is talking about in relation to the time stream and I will also use my free determination to use master of time to make it all work

Re: E2S9 - Secret Penguin Colony - Everyone
Ian, Time Keeper, Ty'daal:
[OOC: Time Keeper's maneuver is a Major Success!]
Time Keeper's super-speed run creates a powerful vortex, when he changes direction, he pulls the mighty blast of spiraling air with him, into the upper limb of the off-balance ring! The impact snaps it downward--level again, but inverted. It's reversed vibrations cancel those of the ring directly outside it, causing the ring outside that to also flip over in a chain reaction.

The multiplex cancelling of the vibrations leave a great deal of energy stored in the mechanism--which is still locked with the magma flows deep in the mantle beneath Antarctica--but the immediate danger has been averted!

Nereid:
[OOC: Emperor Penguin is tagging Panicking Penguins! and his Catchphrase Aspect, raising the difficulty of finding him to 10. You gain the 2 Determination he spent.]

When you get to the far side of the snowbank where Emperor Penguin was last seen, you find, half buried in the snow, his cybernetic visor and waldoes, and the backpack they connect to. Without them, Emperor Penguin looks just like any other adult male penguin who engages in moderate exercise... and there are thousands of penguins running around. Without line-of-sight, even your psychic connection to him is beginning to fade.

As you look around, you hear an echoing call of "Tekeli-li-li!"

There's a flashing message scrolling across the Emperor's visor:
YOU HAVE SHOWN CARE FOR MY KIND THAT OTHERS NEVER HAVE, BUT HUMANITY WILL NEVER ACCEPT ME.
EMPEROR PENGUIN WILL RETURN.

Todd:
You arrive in the resonance chamber just in time to hear the tail end of Ian's long-winded explanation of why Time Keeper's and Ty'daal's reversing of the ring polarity created a nullification cascade that locked the entire Tidal Surge Array into a neutral state. μ-90 would probably love it.

Ian:
The huge green metal rings seem to be trying to alternately expand and contract, pushed by their powerful vibrations harmonically cancelling each other out. There's probably a control panel somewhere, buried in the ice around the edge of the chamber...

Time Keeper:
Your dramatic, flying dismount from the chamber walls is followed by a splash of liquid water, melted by the friction of your running!

Ty'daal:
The splash of water following Time Keeper is a welcome relief--and it tastes of salt, like tropic seas.

Nereid:
What do you want to do with Emperor Penguin's gear?

Angelfish:
Faintly, you hear a voice coming from the semi-repaired Trojan mecha-train. It's coming from the emergency radio Ian and Ishida-san put in the "driver's compartment" they rigged up.
"...Kiyomi Maru to Angelfish. Kiyomi Maru to Amm-Fib'ian. Kiyomi Maru to anyone, please respond. What is your status?"

Ian stares at the rings a moment, "If you ever decide to live in peace with humanity Emperor, I shall stand beside you, but as long as you try to annihilate others to gain power for your species, I will always stand in your way."
Ian looks for a control panel to gain control of this power source, and then begins exploring the ruins of his ancestors.

OOC: I'm not looking for anything particular, so I'm fine montaging an end sequence to this adventure.

Angelfish slowly looks around at the buried city, the shattered ice, the flock of crazed, terrified penguins...  She "listens" for a moment to her companions as they put the final cap on Emperor Penguin's mad scheme, and takes a brief mental "headcount" - yep, all of the team's voices seem to be accounted for.

She switches the toggle on her wrist unit from "voice" to "telex" and begins carefully typing -
