E3S13 - Metro PD Headquarters
Nereid:
The Central Headquarters of the Akamai City Police Department is a six-story structure built around a central courtyard and surrounded by park-like plantings of palm trees & hibiscus. It's only a few blocks from the University Campus, near where the Grove blends into the affluent Bayside Heights neighborhood.

Inside, the building is bustling with activity, and a desk Sergeant directs you toward the elevators and the second floor, home of the Homicide Division. The offices on this floor are small, and each is shared by two detectives--except for the Lieutenant's office. Its no bigger than the others, but Lt. Santino Moleta's office is his own.

"Doctor Mahelona, please come in and take a seat." Lt. Moleta is slender and fit, with dark hair. He has a perpetual frown-wrinkle between his eyes. "Thank you for coming down. There are several aspects of a current case that you may be able to shed some light on." He pushes a glossy photo across the desk toward you. "Have you ever seen this woman before?"

She's young, pretty, probably of Chinese descent, and smiling at the camera. The background is indistinct and out of focus; buildings and trees that could be anywhere. She doesn't really look familiar, but you couldn't say for sure that you've never seen her before either; she might have been at Mr. Chen's last night, for example...

Thank you Lt Moleta.

Kai studies the picture sincerely.

She doesn't really look familiar, but I  couldn't say for sure that i've never seen her before either. I can say that I have not had substantial interactions with her.  I hate to say this but she kinda reminds me of a model from an ad or a hostess at a restaurant. They don't seem familiar but they don't seem totally unknown. She is pretty, ....I mean if she isn't the ....murder victim...then I guess she was pretty...or still pretty just not alive...ewww, sorry I just connected the dots...been a long night.

The Lieutenant nods, and slides another picture across. "Yes, she's the victim, Dongmei Lo--although she is no longer pretty, I'm afraid."

This one is a morgue photo, although the body is draped so that you can't see the Y-incision, if there is one. She looks pale, eyes sunken, and very dead. There are large discolored patches around her throat, like mottled purple bruising.

"Ms. Lo was strangled. There are other bruises on her body; the Coroner thinks they were self-inflicted, during a struggle. There are no characteristic defensive injuries, and no trace evidence left by her attacker--no skin under her nails, no hair or fibers; nothing at all. The coroner says that the bruising around her throat is characteristic of manual strangulation--but the marks aren't typical. The killer may have been wearing heavy gloves or something like oven mitts." Lt. Moleta pauses, the crease between his eyes deepening.

"Your handbag and your ID were found in Ms. Lo's apartment. Do you have any idea how they might have got there?"

My guess would be when my handbag went missing at the club...why she would have I don't know, but...Lt. Moleta? (pause for 3-4 beats as I try to read his mind) .

Nevermind, I have forgotten my purpose here...I help you by answering questions not asking them...

OOC; During the pause I am gonna scan his thoughts....I have a horrible feeling the "killer" is my "ghost".

12:11, Today: Nereid rolled 1,4 using d6,d6. read the LT.  1-4=-3

5 +(-3)=2 .... Probably not crawling inside his head anytime soon.

Lt. Moleta seems to have a very disciplined mind--and a habit of keeping his emotions in check when dealing with witnesses, or suspects.

"Dr. Maheloni, you said on the phone that you had gone to Mr. Chen's with a blind date. What was his name?" The Lieutenant picks up a pen, ready to take note of what you tell him.

Oh, Lieutenant..let me show you.

Kai sighs and then concentrates...attempting to send a few memories to the Lieutenant. Scenes from Tropic Thunder's latest public rampage, the fight with Emperor Penguin, The super ninja's fighting Todd, and a few select scenes from the gunfight at the club.

I feel horrible...I haven't been totally honest with you at first and now I have broken every rule of super hero secret identity. But I am not really good at lying and though it is not admissible in court...I can at times read past events...I mught be able to help you find your killer....that is if you don't arrest me right here and right now.

OOC: In case I need a roll to transmit properly.

22:27, Today: Nereid rolled 6,3 using d6,d6. Send some memories.

6-3 = 3  5+3=8  maybe a little overkill.

Lt. Moleta's solemn stone-face breaks as he winces in shock. After you finish speaking, he takes a moment to rub his temples. "Damn it. Here I was hoping this was just a normal homicide..." He says, frown returning.

"Doctor, thank you for taking me into your confidence. For the most part, Metro PD appreciates that the superhuman community tries to police itself. We count on deputizing volunteer superhumans when apprehending one becomes..." He shrugs. "You're in the life; you know the drill."

He rubs his temples again. "That young man you just showed me; he helped control Henry Naismith when he went berserk a few weeks ago--but he was also involved in the gunfight at Mr. Chen's. Was he your blind date, the one you said would try to get your possessions back?"

[OOC: The Lt. calls Tropic Lightning by his real name, since that's the one that appears on all the arrest reports... :)]

Kai begins to speak really, really, fast.

Oh no...not a blind date really (that was my awful too honest to lie too afraid to tell the truth thing)...he is a fellow good guy, goes by Todd ...bad name but good hero. I had this artifact that a slimeball treasure hunter had found but couldn't ID , and when he asked me to ID it for him I was like "I don't trust him but i would rather know about this than let him sell off behind my watchful eye. Now the kicker is it seems haunted. Like a dark shadowy human like presence causing all sorts of trouble in my lab.

So I call my buddyTodd...and he is getting smacked around by a team of super-ninjas.  Then he says, "help me track down the ninjas and I can help you....well...I was gonna make psychic contact with the artifact...if possible...I know sounds weird but I've done weirder things...

so he tells me we are going to a club..and this part is real...I thought it was a dinner club but it's gambling den and what do you know..the Triad or Tongs or someone didn't like Todd and were going to kill him (or at least try) and then I like do my mental magic on the head of security to "help Todd and end the violence" well...gunmen tend to end violence with shootouts and lo and behold a stampede of people my purse (with the haunted artifact) is lost and one of my favorite heels (which is really petty considering what happened i know...but I am kinda a jock/nerd hybrid so I don't do heels or miniskirts much...but these heels are awesome I can run in them , they are comfy and make me look good---like my legs are several miles long---which is nice when you are 5'3"---still it's petty all things considered I know) .

That's when he said "don't worry I am sure the purse will show up" and he bought me an early breakfast...not as a date but like a superhero aftermath thing.

did I mention that I can sometimes see past events? I know that wouldn't be admissible but I can.

Re: E3S13 - Metro PD Headquarters
The Lieutenant takes that all in. He starts to write notes on his pad, but gives up after the first second or two. "... I see." He picks up his desk phone, pressing a button. "George, it's me. Bring up the purse we found at the Lo apartment. The owner is in my office." There's a pause, then "No, she's in the clear. This one's taken a turn for the weird, if you know what I mean. Yeah."

A few minutes pass, then an almost-pudgy Hawai'ian man in a dark suit and blue shirt brings in your bag, sealed in an evidence bag. He and Lt. Moleta seem to know one another well. When the Lieutenant unseals the plastic wrapper, your purse and it's contents, wallet, keys, ID, and so on all spill free. The cloth-wrapped artifact, however, is not here...

Well, pooh...my haunted artifact is missing...I hope they aren't connected...but let's face it...they probably are.

Now I can try to see past events...sometimes it's just vague emotions and stray thoughts...now I could use my bag since the object was there, or the (choke) body or the crime scene.  The body might have the strongest emotions...but the scene might have the strongest vibes.

Nereid:
The Hawai'ian man introduces himself as Detective Makaiau. "Ms. Lo's body is in the morgue, but evidence technicians are still at her apartment." He says to the Lieutenant, shooting a sidelong glance at you. "She's a me'e?" He asks, using the Hawai'ian slang term for "hero"--which can also be translated as "destroyer".

Lt. Moleta rubs his temples again, and nods slightly at the Detective. "Yeah. This is turning into a Special case; but it still looks like homicide, so it's still our problem." He looks back at you. "Are you up for a trip to a murder scene?" He asks, not making any effort to soften the impact of his question.

Of course

Kai rubs her jeans hoping to look for confident than she is. This stuff is still new enough that she still has anxiety.
