OOC: Amm-Fibian rolled 4,2 using d6,d6
So 2 + 5 (Awareness) = 7 total
and +3 for a 10 total if I can use Investigation.

Re: E5S5 - Chek Lap Kok Airport - Todd, Nereid, Ian
Ian:
He's across the street and up about a block, sniffing (literally) around a noodle stall tucked in between a tiny playground and the Easeful Court Apartment building. He looks ordinary, just another Asian man in a white shirt and black trousers--but there's something about the way he moves; loose in the shoulders and arms, head thrust forward like a hound-dog trying to pick up a scent...

You've spotted him; he hasn't spotted you.

In reply to DainXB - GM (msg # 55):

Nereid unleashes a song hoping to calm down one of the demons...cause if they aen't angry they may be less stabby, punchy.

OOC: Emotion Control 3 , Willpower 5

21:46, Today: Nereid rolled -3 using 2d6-7.

and that probably won't do anything...

Re: E5S5 - Chek Lap Kok Airport - Todd, Nereid, Ian
Nereid:
[OOC: Nope, that's a Failure. Trying again will require Determined Effort.]

The demons' alarm at being tied together and sinking in the bay is too strong an emotion for you to calm. Sheer desperation gets them free of the tangled lines--and, as you guessed, they're unhappy with their current situation.

They decide to take it out on you.

[OOC: Test Prowess three times against a Difficulty of 4! Their hook-swords do 4 Stamina on a hit!]

Todd:
Zhang Jue flaps her wide sleeves, and stops her out-of-control spinning. "To be honest, I never cared much for that boat. I care for it less now that you're the only one aboard..." She says, bringing her hands together in front of her. "衛痴! Hexagram 62--Fire over Water: Easy victories should not be taken lightly!" Then fire sprays from her cupped hands, torching the entire sampan!

[OOC: Test Coordination against a Difficulty of 7; her two-handed flamethrower attack does 7 Stamina on a hit!]

Ian:
Ducking his head even lower, the demon-in-disguise eyes the noodle stall customers suspiciously. Rudely, he grabs the arm of one of the diners and asks him questions, making a sweeping motion up and down the street with his other hand. The startled diner chokes momentarily and tries to pull away, shaking his head violently "no".

[OOC: After the defensive rolls, anyone can go!]

"Yerp."

Todd springs over board, but fails to avoid the flames as the entire sampan ignites. Fire covers his body, burning him before the water puts it out.

Coord 6 + Acro 1 + Roll 0 = 7. Not a good day for Todd; stamina is now -3 unless I can spend 1 Determination and invoke Peak Physical Perfection for a +2.

(I'm still unclear what the limits are in Icons for using Determination.)

Re: E5S5 - Chek Lap Kok Airport - Todd, Nereid, Ian
Todd:
[OOC: Two ways you could do it:

ONE:Spend 1 Determination to invoke Peak Physical Perfection for an Advantage, then use the Advantage for
Improved Effort: Increase the effort of your test by +2.
You dive clear in time and avoid the 7 Stamina damage. That puts you in the water with 4 Stamina.

OR: Take the damage, hit the water unconscious, then spend 1 Determination to invoke Peak Physical Perfection to gain an Advantage. Another way to use an Advantage is:
Recover: Regain Stamina equal to the higher of your Strength or
Willpower or eliminate the ongoing effects of a power, as specified
   in the power description.

The water puts out the flames and shocks you back awake. You're burned, and probably naked, and in the water; but with 8 Stamina.

That last one is rough--and μ-90 wouldn't recommend making a habit of it--but it's possible...]

Ian walks in the opposite direction of the demon, checking the man's ID for his address. Once he is sufficiently close to the man's home, and safely away from the demon, he returns to his own body.

Ian:
You open your actual eyes. The SUV is parked at the edge of the bay, beneath the end of the bridge. The side door opposite you is open, there is a ragged hole torn in the vehicle's metal roof, and Nereid is nowhere to be seen! Agent Kwai-Pun and Detective Smith are standing near the front of the vehicle, staring intently out to sea.

Let's go with the less recommended option. Tactically inferior but much more intersting. :)

My avails will be erratic the next few days. I'm catching up with family in Canada just before my niece's wedding.

In reply to Todd (msg # 62):

Nereid darts and dives, avoiding the attacks

OOC: Prowess 6
8:54, Today: Nereid rolled 2 using 2d6-7. prowess test 3.
18:54, Today: Nereid rolled 2 using 2d6-7. prowess test 2.
18:54, Today: Nereid rolled 0 using 2d6-7. prowess test 1.

So 6,8,8

Then instinctively she punches the nearest demon

OOC:

19:00, Today: Nereid rolled 1 using 2d6-7. punch.

Prowess 6 , 7 effort but only 3 Str for effect

Nereid:
Your fist connects with the demon's nose, and you feel something go crunch. Suddenly the water is pink with blood, and the demon howls with the pain of his broken nose!

Todd:
The water puts out the flames licking across the remnants of your jeans, and shocks you back to consciousness. Shoes, shirt, now pants... Maybe its time to think about a costume; something fire-retardant maybe, or bullet-proof...

You regain your focus when you hear the demon yell. Nereid is about fifteen yards away from you, mixing it up with the demon-ball you threw at Zhang Jue!

Can I spend 1 Determination to create a stunt; the plan is to punch the water, creating.a waterspout to douse the demon fireball?

Todd:
[OOC: Sure! Spend 1 Determination to activate an appropriate Quality. That gains you an Advantage, which you can spend to perform a Stunt. This one sounds like stunting the Burst extra on your super-strength. That'll douse everyone within Close range--but especially Zhang Jue. :)]

Ian:
Agent Kwai-Pun points to Zhang Jue, floating and wreathed in spinning red-and-purple fireballs. "Blue Devil Tong enforcer--wanted on three continents. She just torched her own boat to get at your 切切实实的,不合作 friend." True to her word, the sampan is burning vigorously.

Detective Jones says. "She and Todd have history. Nereid, too..." His pistol is in his hand, but there's nothing he can do with it at this range. "Nereid went into the water, then Todd threw in a bunch of blue demons that were on the boat. That might be bad."

Re: E5S5 - Chek Lap Kok Airport - Todd, Nereid, Ian
Todd lifts his right arm and calls out, "Nereid, HANG LOOSE!"

The arm falls, slamming into the water with massive force, raising a huge wave of water aimed at the bad guys. And his teammate.

Spend 1 Det for a burst stunt: Strength 8 + Roll +2 = 10!

Now if possible I'd like to minimise the effect on Nereid. If not I may be struck from her Christmas card list. :-|

"I shall attempt a bit of Demonic Possession, if given the chance. Do you see what I did there Detective? Demonic Possession? I do believe I am finally growing accustomed to this human sense of humor."
Amm-Fibian prepares the TUNA.

OOC: Can Ian see any of the Blue Demons? If so, he will attempt possession. If not, he will wait, hoping one surfaces.
Amm-Fibian rolled 5,3 using d6,d6
2 + 6 = 8 for Possession.

Re: E5S5 - Chek Lap Kok Airport - Todd, Nereid, Ian
Todd:
[OOC: Prowess 6 +2 =8. Major Success vs the Blue Demons, Moderate Success vs Zhang Jue--and a Marginal Success vs Nereid!]

The three demons cartwheel out of the water like you bowled a strike! The surge of water rips upward, sizzling as it knocks Zhang Jue's fireballs out of the air around her! Suddenly drenched, she plummets like a stone!

Ian:
As the demons are sent flying, they're very easy to see! "Tuning" the TUNA to mesh with a non-human, demon neuro-system takes only a second.

[OOC: Massive Success! You have a demon Controlled for the rest of the Chapter if you want.]

The sensation (even second-hand) of flying is the pleasant sensation of swimming weightless--refreshing after hours in the Land Suit. Your new sense of smell is astonishing--and so are the number of industrial pollutants it can detect in the water of the bay! You can also detect the signature fragrance Nereid uses, and the equally-distinctive smell emitted by Todd. However, the most significant sensation of brain-jumping the demon is the pounding headache and dizziness from the concussion Todd just gave it. Even without the effect of the TUNA, it's reeling and barely conscious!

Nereid:
You hear Todd's warning and your surfer's reflexes take over, sending you limp and unresisting in the water, just like you do when a pipeline you're riding is about to wipe you out! This feels a lot like that...

[OOC: Take 4 Stamina from the impact of Todd's Ty'daal impersonation.]

Everyone:
Zhang Jue claps her hands as she falls, and suddenly a ring of purple sparks appears just above the water's surface! "Fools! This is not over--the Feather Empress will see to that!" She falls through the ring--and suspiciously, there is no splash...

One of the other two blue demons is swimming strongly away from the fight, dragging the other behind him.

[OOC: Anyone can go in any order!]

Todd:
[Ooookayyyyyy... Test Coordination + Athletics versus a Difficulty of 10 (Zhang Jue's Magic + Occult Mastery). A Marginal Success gives a result somewhere between painful and fatal, depending on how much of you is on which side of the portal when it collapses. Degrees of Failure mean you're safe in the bay. Moderate or better Success means you're "safe" on the other side.]

The water blast knocks her around and the undertow pulls her under...just for a moment. Nereid's head pops above the surface and she pauses watching Todd leap after the Zhang zue

Todd don't be an...idiot

she pauses knowing that she is probably in too rough shape to actually fight the remaining demons

OOC: Gonna "pass this round, and then pursue the demons after Nereid sees where everyone "lands"

Halfway through the jump Todd hears Neried's advice. The less-impulsive side of his personality regretfully realises she's probably right, but gravity doesn't give him the  option to follow it.

He plummets towards the now lethal-looking portal just as it's closing.

On the edge of panic he rolls into as small a ball as possible, minimizing his wind resistance, and praying it's enough to get him through the rapidly shrinking gap.

Coordination 6 + Acrobatics 1 + Roll 3 = 10.

Time to spend another Determination invoking Peak Physical Perfection for a total of 12.

Eep!!!

[OOC: Continued in E5S8 - West Kowloon.]

Nereid:
Todd vanished just before the ring of sparks did. The three demons are swimming strongly toward the southeast--roughly the direction Zhang Jue's sampan came from initially. That's toward Hong Kong proper; the actual island where the city got it's start.
