Re: E5S11 - Tung Lung Chau - Ian, Nereid, Todd
Nereid:
Blood Shark goes "Ooof!" as the wind is knocked out of him! If he had anything else to say, it'll have to wait...

The Feather Empress turns from Todd to you. "Ah! There is more life within you yet! Good..." She smiles in a predatory way, advancing toward you with one palm outstretched. "I crave your vitality; you make me feel almost young again!"

[OOC: Test Prowess vs a Difficulty of 6, or suffer 8 Stamina of energy drain!]

Todd:
The Golden Guard pulled back into a rough circle, to allow Zhang Jue and her minions space to work. Now, seeing how well that's been going, they rush you with halberds leveled! The front four

[OOC: Defend against 4 attacks, each Difficulty 5. The halberds do 4 Stamina on a hit.]

Ian:
Detective Jones strips off his jacket and shirt, kicks free of his shoes, and accepts the assault rifle Agent Kwai-Pun hands him. Six MIB agents in black wet-suits follow him into the water, weapons slung. "God, the water's cold!" he says "How do you stand it? OK; lead the way."

Agent Kwai-Pun and the patrol boat's captain stand by on deck, near the box, scanning the shoreline through powerful binoculars.

[OOC: Todd & Nereid defend, then anyone can go in any order!]

Re: E5S11 - Tung Lung Chau - Ian, Nereid, Todd
Normally Todd could have easily evaded the attacks. Even with his enhanced abilities lessened by the Feather Empress' magic Todd almost managed to avoid the halberds.

Almost isn't good enough. One attacker just slips past his block, a second catches him in the leg before he can recover and dodge.

Todd hits the ground, unconscious.

Prowess 6-2 = 4 + Martial Arts 2 + Rolls -1,-1-0,+2 = 5,5,6,7. That's two hits for 4 pts = 8, and I only have 7 stamina left.

So it's good night from me...

and with that quip Nereid again succumbs to the Feather Empress' magic

If this game was set in the 1960s or 70s I'd expect the next scene would be a death trap. For all I know it may still be on the cards. :)

Re: E5S11 - Tung Lung Chau - Ian, Nereid, Todd
Ian:
Detective Jones and the MIB divers follow you through the portal, and after a brief moment of disorientation, into the fountain-pool within the Feather Empress' underground stronghold. Flickering green light comes from the pagoda carved into the cavern's back wall, it's entrance flanked by restive Foo Dogs. Nothing else appears to be active in the cavern--all is disturbingly quiet.

One of the MIB divers taps his earpiece, and frowns. "Radio interference. I cannot raise Agent Kwai Pun." He looks to Detective Jones for instructions.

Nate Jones brushes water from his wiry crewcut, and whispers to you. "Let me guess; Todd and Nereid are in there?" He flicks water in the direction of the pagoda.

Nereid & Todd:
[OOC: An indeterminate time has passed (for you). It's been at least an hour, so your current Stamina is equal to your Strength. Todd, you've also recovered from the draining effect of the Empress' touch.]

As the old saying goes, "the Chinese have a lot of Hells..." As you regain consciousness, you appear to be in the Hell of Hanging Upside Down Over A Yawning Abyss. The chains around your ankles keep you from falling, but the flickering green torchlight coming from above illuminates a circular shaft that goes down... down... down... into utter darkness. The torches are just inside a cavern-like entrance at the top of this bottomless shaft. Other chains, dripping with damp and rust, dangle around you just out of reach.

A faint moaning from somewhere behind you lets you know that you are not alone in this particular Hell. "If I could reach either of you, I would kill you right now." The voice is Zhang Jue's! "You are the cause of my failure--and the price of failing the Feather Empress is great indeed..."

As Kai comes to it takes her a bit to adjust to her new situation and take it all in

Seriously...

She rolls her eyes "at" Zhang Jue

Listen Sister, no one made you serve an powerful evil demon woman. No...you chose that yourself and this is just Karma. Well, for you it's karma...I'm a good girl...then again...I fuzzy on how Chinese hells work.

Kai wiggles and grunts as she tries to remember if she has a legend or myth about escaping this particular hell filed away in her head.

OOC: Though the chances are infinitesimally small...there could be a chance that her vast knowledge of human religion and cultures could pay off here. Whatta ya think Dain?

Todd opens his eyes, and slowly takes in the setting. He closes them again.

"Well, this sucks."

From a character pov it sucks. From a player pov I love it. :)

Nereid:
[OOC: Test Intellect vs a Difficulty of 5. You get a +1 for your Archaeology Specialty, of course. And you can always tag Surfing Archaeologist.]

"Serving the Feather Empress is the price of doing supernatural business in Hong Kong." Zhang Jue's voice comes from behind you. "It's a necessity, not a choice."

Todd:
The blood is pounding in your ears from being upside down for so long. The rusty chains are looped several times around your ankles, biting into your skin. From there, they run to huge iron rings set in the stone ceiling, then back to the cavern entrance at the top of the shaft. There are chains enough to hang a dozen people in here--and based on the still-articulated leg bones hanging from one of the nearby chains, they've been in use for a looong time.

I think I can break these chains.

Todd takes a deep breath, and prepares to try breaking the chains, only to feel a deep weariness pass through his body.

Unwillingly he finds himself slipping into a deep meditative state, bringing him into communion with μ-90

I'm compelling my "commune with μ-90 quality". Let's see if the others can keep me alive before I get back. ^_^

Re: E5S11 - Tung Lung Chau - Ian, Nereid, Todd
Ian:
The good news is that Foo Dogs are even less resistant to possession than Mówángs. The bad news is that they're not even as bright--it's beyond crowded, cramming your vast intellect into this tiny silicate-based brain. You may begin to have problems with not acting like a stone dog...

But the Foo Dog's sensorium is fantastic! It's vision may be black-and-white, but the acuity is extreme, and it's sense of smell is thousands of times better than your own. So much so that it's kind of distracting; you can smell Todd and Nereid, you can even smell their peaks of emotional excitement. You can smell the path they took into the carved-stone building...

You can also smell Detective Jones and his strike team, moving stealthily up the edges of the path to your host's location at the pagoda doors. They smell excited too...

Todd:
μ-90's voice in your meditation sounds just like your own--except that you don't think you've ever reached this level of snark. "Well, cave-boy, this is another fine mess you've gotten yourself into. Do you have a plan, or are you depending on your usual make-it-up-as-you-go methodology? If you are, my quantum-analysis of your chances shows once again the statistical near-certainty that you already have offspring."

Nereid:
It looks to you like Todd fainted. Even Todd couldn't possibly have gone to sleep hanging upside-down over an abyss... Could he?

Ian:
The stone Foo Dog, unable to float, struggles to climb the ornately-carved edges of the decorative pool nearest the pagoda entrance. It's efforts are in vain; carved stone claws don't give it much purchase.

"No, I don't have a plan," Todd snaps at μ-90. "Tell me, oh highly evolved one, what clever solutions do you use when fighting evil Chinese witches, demons and goddesses?

"Take time to think it over. I don't have anything else on at the moment."

Re: E5S11 - Tung Lung Chau - Ian, Nereid, Todd
Todd:
μ-90, in your meditative vision, is you, floating in the lotus position in a white room. He slowly rotates around his own axis. "We no longer believe in primitive superstitions like 'witchcraft' and 'demons'." He pauses in his smugness, and begins rotating in the opposite direction. "And I'm not sure what 'Chinese' even means. Is that a haplogroup? Doesn't matter; my clever solution to your situation would have, first, been not to get into it." His sigh is more implied that audible. "Your clever solution should take into account that most of the classic deathtrap scenarios in your fiction include a time element. The 'evil' 'Chinese' 'witch' is probably not going to wait around for you to die of old age. I recommend haste."

Todd, Nereid:
"Break your chains and fall to your death. Don't break them, and the 上升的霧* will dissolve the flesh from your bones." Despite the dismal outlook, Zhang Jue sounds more angry than resigned to her fate. "Chained as I am, even sorcery cannot aid me."

*Rising Mist

Everyone:
[OOC: The deathtrap is a pyramid test, with the modifiers Collapsing and Costly. You need to accumulate a Massive Success to free yourselves, but each page you lose the equivalent of a Minor Success, as the corrosive mists rise. Certain actions also have a cost, in the form of Trouble--but you get to find out which actions as you struggle to escape. :) Ian and the rescue party can act to generate Successes as well, as they try to find you.]

Oooooh. Very nice. GM mastery at work.

"Thanks for that," Todd says to μ-90. "It's reassuring to know that evolution will perfect humanity's ability to seize on the blindingly obvious."

He pauses for a moment before breaking the trance. "Uh - hope to chat again in less dire circumstances. 'K?"

Todd cuts the connection, and awakens. Still dangling from chains.

"I'm back, Nereid. I have a plan..."

With that Todd starts swinging.

Coordination 6 + Acrobatics 1 + Roll -1 = 6.

You swing like a pendulum, the chain above you creaking ominously.

"He has a plan!" Zhang Jue scoffs. "My plan is to laugh aloud as you fall."

You now have possession of the remaining Foo Dog, and it's amazing sense of smell. Detective Jones has watched the first Foo Dog's antics, and figured out what you're doing; he addressed your current host-dog. "OK, Ian--lead the way!"

Shut up, mystical minion....unless you want to help. Otherwise, let the heroes save the day. Lucky for you we aren't the type to leave anyone behind...even you.

And Nereid begins to swing as well
