Wait - he didn't HAVE Notice?  Like ANY?!

That's ... That's... unpossible!  o_0

If he already has notice, then it'd just be +5.

And thus my point was he didn't have Notice and it was only because of his amazing Double Open roll that he's eligible.

0_o How is that possible?

Re: OOC -  Sitting Around the Campsite.
I haven't even had chance to check yet what I'm going to pick.

Cos +10 to a new skill is effectively +40 (due to eliminating the -30 unskilled penalty), so it's like 8 times as good as +5 to an existing skill.

But...

It may not be '+40' to a skill you actually want.

So it's like bargain-shopping.  Is it a better bargain to get 50% off a shirt you don't like, or to get 5% off a shirt you DO like?  Hmmm....

He's a Martial Artist. He's a Disgaea character, not Batman. :P

He doesn't have to be Batman.

But as things stand, Giovanna is actually more likely to see stuff than Adell.

She's more likely to DETECT stuff, unless she has a power to restore eyeballs, she can't really "see" anything...

Besides, Adell is more likely to beat a giant monster in a fight. :P

For me, it was easy, since I neglected to give Giovanna a skill she actually really needs at the outset.

I have just discovered I've done exactly the same thing.  Yes, fairly important, this.  For her, at least.

+10 in a new skill please, Boss!  :)

I am always amazed when people make up characters who don't have Notice.

Then again, people make up big city characters (Police, Detectives, etc) in modern games set in North America who don't have 'Drive'.  Or stuff like that.

It happens. :)

To be fair "Drive" in most games is like "ride" in Anima. You're assumed to do it competently enough even without skills as long as you're not trying to do anything hard.

So if that guy never took the cops' stop criminals from driving classes, I guess he could have no points in drive.

GM:
Hooray, Translation errors!

Hint - you might see me say Chauville a lot.  Why?

1.  It's more natural to me.
2.  I read Gaia in French, first.

Either way, doesn't matter.  :D

Apropos of nothing (except idly re-reading the Setting information thread), and for once this might not actually be the fault of FFG's English translators.

The French map you've posted also identifies the place as Chaville.

I mean I'll still blame FFG though, because FFG.

Game depending.

Now, I often see this used as a comment in games where it ISN'T depending, where there are skills like 'Automobile: Basic' or where 'Drive +1' is written as 'knows how to drive a car in normal, everyday situations.'

And in any game like Anima where people suffer a penalty for not having a skill, then that sort of thing goes out the window.

...actually, when I think of it...

Okay, what Modern Game DOES have 'assumed to be able to drive in normal, everyday circumstances' as a notation when otherwise there is an actual 'Drive' skill?

Top Secret?  Nope.
Top Secret SI?  Nope.
Cyberpunk 2013/2020?  Nope.
Gurps?  Hahahaha...nope.
James Bond 007?  Nope.
Any Palladium Game?  Nope.
Any game based on the Rolemaster system?  Nope.
Classic Marvel?  Maybe.  It had the 'Drive' talent, though.  I'd need to look it up.
Mutants and Masterminds?  Would need to look it up.  It does have the 'Drive' skill, though.
Etc.

Seriously, I know you're right - there are games out there where it's noted as being a 'basic' skill - but I can't recall them.

Cops have to pass a pretty difficult driving test.  I suspect that would require at least some 'skill' in drive.

I'm fairly sure Shadowrun doesn't require the Drive skill to drive, but that might be because of automated cars shenanigans.

Okay, there.  That's two.

I'm pretty sure you're correct about White Wolf, Adell - Old World of Darkness, for certain (+1 difficulty on all tests, is all).
