"I can get up instantly," says Vethryn, referring to her ability to teleport, "but much as Ushug would be pleased if I led the charge, I must admit that I should wait until we've figured out how the rest will follow."

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
The remains of the catapult will provide enough material for a crude ladder (the whole area has been denuded of trees), but it will take time to put it together. The stonework is just too solid to break further.

"If one of you climbs inside then the main hall is just two floors below and you can open the door for the rest of us" suggests Ashe.

"Let me give it a try..." He had climbed harder things after all. Not much harder...but still he should be able to do it.

(OOC-13:31, Today: Vander rolled 16 using 1d20+12. Dex+Theif+Lvl.)

Vander confidently swarms up the tower to the opening, but misjudges the smoothness of the stone work and falls to the ground, slightly turning his ankle.

3HP Damage Vander. It is DC20 to climb, d10 damage for each 5 you miss the roll by.

"This is wasting time" grunted the barbarian as he slung his axe over his shoulder and tied the rope round his waist. Retrieving his two hand axes from his belt the half Orc swung first one then the other into the joints between the stones of the tower and started to climb up the side of the structure.

OOC22:11, Today: Shakru rolled 14 using 1d20+11. Str + survived of the wilds background .

After Vander and Shakru's unsuccessful attempts, Gilad tentatively tries to scale the wall, but slips on the stones and falls back to the ground.

"Oof." he mutters, rubbing his hindquarters, before looking up at Vethryn. "I'm beginning to think Ushug does want you leading the charge."

Gilad Rott rolled 18 using 1d20+12. DEX Check + Treasure Hunter.
Gilad Rott rolled 2 using 1d10. Damage.

2 damage to Gilad.

"In that case, wish me luck," says Vethryn. "Worst case, I'll jump back out the window and you'll have to drag me along with a broken leg."

She leaps up to the window in an instant, and quickly looks around for any enemies before sprinting towards the front door.

OOC:  Using my teleport power to jump to the top of the wall.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Vethryn appears just inside the demolished window, on a set of stairs spiraling up and down. There are several mutilated bodies and the stones are slick with blood. Vethryn rushes down to the main hall, a double height room occupying the whole ground floor of the tower. There are signs of a fierce battle here, trashed furniture, bloodstains and more savaged corpses. You can see the bar door is block by a heavy steel bar that has been wedged in place.

The stairs continue down into the cellar, and stumbling up to meet you is anther mechanical lion. Lucky for you, this one is on its last legs, battered, limping and leaking steam. But its teeth are as sharp as always...

Roll for Init Vethryn, if you beat 10 you can act first this round! To unbar the door takes 2 rounds, where you are vulnerable to attack (+4). You can do it in one round with a Str + level check DC20.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Vethryn runs to the door, ignoring the lion, and tries to force the door open before the lion reaches her.  The door is more tightly shut than she expected, though, and her feet slide on the floor slippery with blood.  She realizes she can brace herself against a particularly heavy piece of fallen wood, but she's going to have to turn her back to the lion. "This really does seem like Ushug's sort of thing," she mutters to herself between clenched teeth.

OOC: adding some flavour to being vulnerable and to taking two rounds...

16:54, Today: Vethryn rolled 10 using 1d20+6. Forcing the door.
16:52, Today: Vethryn rolled 23 using 1d20+5. Initiative.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Vethryn rushes to the gate and wrestles to free the bar, while the mechanical lion attacks her from behind, sinking its razor teeth deep into the cleric's shoulder. But the door is open!

35HP damage Vethryn.

OK, roll Init the rest of you, anyone who beats Init 10 may rush in and attack the lion.

Apologies for the delay, was a family visit

Zanne had moved forward next to the door. "What did I say about going first?" she asks the fallen Vander before moving inside the slowly opening door. "Damn!" she reacts to seeing another construct by hurling fire at it. "I need to listen to my own advice!"

That should be a d6+3, so it's 24 vs PD, 4 damage and 4 ongoing fire, save ends.

16:51, Today: Zanne rolled 4 using 1d8. Ongoing.

In reply to Zanne (msg # 244):

"What? What? I almost never deliberatly go first...it just works out that way..." He chuckled. He rolled to his feet, trying to hit the gears around the metallic things eyes before leaping away to safety.

(OOC-Trying for Slick feint. If I hit, Lion will be dazed, but no other effect. Secondary effect requires another target.

With a bellow of dwarven fury and druidic opposition to the clockwork fiend, Durum charges into the fray. His warhammer strikes but much of the force is blunted by the construct's armor.

OOC Natural 18+, Durum triggers Greenmantle. He has AC 22 until an attack misses him.
25 vs AC should hit; 10 damage
18:22, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 25 using 1d20+6. Warhammer (attack).
18:23, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 10 using 3d8+3. Warhammer (damage).

Edit to Add: I forgot the initiative roll, but I got a 14 so it's all good.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
You storm into the room and swiftly smash the wounded lion to scrap and brimstone. Ashe follows you into the main hall, clearly sickened by the slaughtered soldiers scattered around the room.

"Some of these soldiers are from Brooken. They must have come through the cellar gate to reinforce us, but none of them reached the battlements"
he says mournfully, before pulling himself together. "I must report to my captain at once. I am sure he will want to talk to you... if he still lives after that fireball".

"We must hurry up without delay," Vethryn says.  "The enemy must be upstairs, then."

She hesitates for a moment.  "I will hurry downstairs and see if there is anything I can do for the survivors below.  Their bravery brought glory to his name, and my duty is to ensure they will fight again one day. But I will join you upstairs in a moment."

Durum kneels down next to Sigmund as Vethryn casts her spell. He doesn't wait to see the effect of her magic, instead he scoops up some stone from the floor and uses it to bandage the warrior's wounds.

OOC Total of 24 on a healing check to stabilize Sigmund.
