Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
"Sigmund!" Gilad rushes over to his fallen companion, alongside the others. Furrowing his brow as he senses something strange, he looks back at Ashe.

"This tower... are there some sort of protective wards in place?" he asks the guard, before taking another worried glance at Sigmund. He waits to see if Vethryn's prayer is answered, uncertain if the mystical aura around Sigmund is protecting him, or blocking any attempts to aid him...

Between you it is enough. Sigmund takes a deep, shuddering breath.

Sigmund's eyes flutter open and he blinks in shock. He looks up at his companions and sits up.

"Well, hello," he says thickly. "What happened to the metal lion?"

Healed 26.
15:28, Today: Sigmund rolled 26 using 4d10+3, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 6,9,8,3. Recovery.

"Guess." He smirked. "Next time you want to wander off by yourself, we are clearly going to have to stop you..."

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Sigmund shakes his head. "I did what I needed to do. I was coming back to help you when I found that metal thing." He stands shakily. "Thank you. I am in your debt. I'm honor-bound to help you now, if I weren't inclined to already."

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
"Pshaw! You and Shakru can go on about your solemn honor debts all you like, the rest of us are just glad to see to see you still in one piece." Gilad grins.

"The siege isn't over yet, though..." he frowns, looking over at the stairs leading up the tower.

The Half Orc grunted and nodded at Sigmund, his only acknowledgement that he was in anyway happy to see the man.

"Up will have an ending it is a tower after all. But down will take us into the main part of the keep and thus more things to kill"

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
In fact the lion was the last of the clockwork invaders, as you discover when Ashe returns with his commanding officer, an imperial captain by his armour. Despite horrific burns, his voice is steady as he introduces himself.

"Captain Redwood at your service my friends. In the name of the Empire thank you for your aid, another shot would have finished us"

"And my compatriots and I come at the behest of Master Stoneguard here, in defense of the High Ark." Gilad pipes in, doffing his hat with an exaggerated flourish.

"From what we saw, the demons have set up some sort of assembly line, strung up along their towers outside that hole. One of them shut down during the fight; might've been something we did, but don't quote me on that. Mayhaps breaking up the others could put a stop to this little invasion..."

The Captain looks thoughtfully at Durum. "Those clockwork devils are building something on the hills to the west; you can see the lights from the battlements"

Assume you now know there is something at C12 on the map.

"Once more into the breach, eh? And I thought we'd be able to relax after breaking that siege..." Gilad glances around, seeing the tower still in disarray after the battle. "Ah well, doesn't look like much in the way of recreation here. Onward!"

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
You take your leave of the captain Redwood and the remaining soldiers, as they set to work trying to shore up the tower's defences, and head back into the blasted and soot choked remains of the forest. The hellhole gives off a ruddy red light, and as yet there is no sign of the workings on the hill to the west.

OK with reference to the map can you give me your route please.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
As you skirt the central hell-hole, which sheds a malevolent ruddy glow on the blasted forest, the structure on the hills to the west becomes visible. Area area of hillside has been cleared to the bedrock and surrounded by a high stockade of twisted iron, bristling with sharpened spikes. In the middle of the area is another hell-hole structure, wreathed in steam and flame. The network of chains, steam pipes and conveyor belts arches over the stockade on the way back down to the main hell-hole.

There are three huge iron ballistae fixed to the bare stone of the hillside, each loaded with a sleek, dart-shaped craft a dozen yards long. But what catches your attention first are two towering iron guardians, a skull-shaped head towering 50ft above the ground supported by three huge legs. The patrol the perimeter, moving slowing and deliberately like great wading birds.

OK I have added another map with the salient features marked. Please get back to me in Meta with any questions.

As you get closer, more details will be become apprent.

Also, I changed the orientation, the top of the page is now north.

Sigmund frowns. "I don't suppose THAT is on our side?" he whispers glumly, pointing at the automaton.
