Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
The nearest tripod stalks towards you, covering the ground deceptively fast. As it approaches it sprays a jet of flaming oil over the party, and Vander is doused in fire.

40HP Damage Vander and 10 ongoing!

The tripod raises a huge leg and stamps down. Gilad is unlucky enough to be the target and is almost crushed, taking a nasty knock as he dives out of the way.

36HP Damage Gilad.

Round 1. Escalation dice +0. Init order: Tripod, Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, Workers.

Shakru, you must cross the stockade to join the battle. As Stealth in no longer an issue, if you make a DC15 Str check you can cross and attack this round, otherwise crossing will take the entire round.

Important information in the Meta thread, please read.

(OOC-I had 2 HP left before the ongoing damage. I assume the ongoing damage is at the start of my round. That leaves me with -8 HP. However, I do make a save at the end of the round, right?

Vethryn stands firm, her eyes half-closed, as the tripod charges at them. She seems to be focusing, and is suddenly surrounded by a swirl of motes of light.

"Ushug kragr ghura!" she shouts out, and her allies feel more full of energy, as some of the motes rush out to join them. She points to Vander, who is wreathed in light.  "Vander, stand up!  Ushug calls on you to fight!"

She points at the tripod's head, striking it with another bolt of light.  "This will truly be a battle to please Ushug!" she shouts.

OOC: Increasing escalation die by 1.
Healing Vander, who now has +4 to AC.

I assume the attack hits the tripod, doing 20 damage.

17:22, Today: Vethryn rolled 20 using 4d6+4. damage.

Shakru looks at his companions and in a booming voice " Get the wounded into the stockade our mission is more important than anyone of us but in there the tripod thing might not attack you"

With that he let out a battle cry to curl the toes of an orc war chief and charged to e creature about to stamp on Gilad

Sigmund shouts, "I'll distract this thing! Go and destroy those siege engines and the things repairing them! I'll retreat if this gets too dicey!"

He begins hacking at it in earnest but also kicking it and making noises to make himself the most obvious target for it to stomp.

Hit AC 18 for 12 hp on a hit, 3 hp on a miss. Hit or miss, I'll take Defensive Fighting--my AC is 23.

10:00, Today: Sigmund rolled 12 using 3d8+4. Damage on tripod.

Durum calls on the power of earth and stone for strength. At his call the earth strengthens both Shakru and himself. He quickly moves to the nearby linkage and strikes at the construct, but his attack does nothing.

OOC Durum and Shakru have +3 on attack and damage until they end their turn staggered. Unfortunately a Natural 1 is a clean miss.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
The bard feels something crack as the tripod stomps down on him, his quick reflexes the only thing that's saved him from winding up a bloody smear on its foot. Gilad hacks blood as he stumbles to his feet, his vision murky.

Ignoring the pain, he begins to recite another of the ancient chants, distorting the air around him once more, and weaving words of creation and perseverence together into song. The bard's eyes focus on Vander's burning, crumpled form as he sings, and some of the flames around the elf seem to flicker and dim.

Seeing Sigmund trying to hold off the tripod, Gilad catches his eye and gives the warrior a simple nod before rushing for the nearest ballista, slicing his sabre deep through its metal exterior, trying to rend apart something important.

Using Halo to give myself +2 to defenses until I'm hit.

Using Song of Aid as a quick action and giving Vander 15 temporary hp. Since I'm before him in the Init order, that should be enough for him to survive the ongoing damage on his turn.

Moving to attack Ballista #1 for 14 damage. The natural 17 triggers Hang Tough, which I'll use to give 4 temporary hp to Sigmund.

Gilad Rott rolled 15 using 3d6. Song of Aid temp hit points.
Gilad Rott rolled 24 using 1d20+7 with rolls of 17. Melee Attack.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Vander nearly sees his own death in fire...and then suddenly does not. It happens so fast he almost falls and then is shocked to find himself a bit torched, but hardly dead. "Ummm...ow?" He said, looking around the others wondering for a second if he did die and was now in the after life. That was quickly resloved at the fact the afterlife seem to include very painful burns and Zanne was still wearing clothes.

"Ah-I am not dead. Got it..." He said, and then tossed one of his daggers into the tripod's inhuman 'eyes'. He tries the same at another construct, but it bonuces off its metal hide.

(OOC-I made my save against ongoing damage, but I don't know what my current HP is.

12:07, Today: Vander rolled 3 using 1d6. Elven Grace.
12:06, Today: Vander rolled 10 using 1d20+9. Secondary attack Vs Ballista.
12:05, Today: Vander rolled 25 using 1d20+7. Slick feint vs Tripod's MD.

Slick Fient is a hit, secondary attack vs other target is a miss that does 3 damage to Ballista #1.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Shakru clambers awkwardly over the barrier.

Shakru, check my last in-game post, you are on the wrong side of the barrier. I rolled Str on your behalf and sadly you didn't make it. Also, you can't use Rage again for the rest of the adventure, remember! However, you do get +3 to hit and damage next round from Durum's buff.

Gilad moves to the nearest ballista and hacks at the clockwork inexorably pulling back the huge laths.

Laths exist! Check this out http://www.thebeckoning.com/me...bow/xbow-diagram.gif

Vander's dagger lodges in the eye of the tripod for a moment, causing it to stagger around aimlessly for a few moments.

Sigmund closes in and attacks of of the tripod's iron legs, but his blow only causes light damage.

Vethryn's blast sends sparks shooting from the tripod's head in a corona of lightning.

Durum and Zanne provide magical power and protection to their comrades.

Three workers rush over to the Ballista that Gilad is wrecking and, heedless to the bard's sword, start frantically repairing it.

Gilad you get an AoO on the mooks. You can take out more than one. The survivors will repair 5HP each.

The tripod is stunned so you are up!

Round 2. Escalation dice +2. Init order: Tripod, Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, Workers.

Ballisa 1-3, AC 20, 50HP to disable, 33/50, 50/50, 50/50

Sigmund continues to pound on the tripod's leg, hoping to cause some permanent damage eventually. He hops about between its legs, shouting and clanging on it...

Chipping away at the tripod and acting as bait. Hit AC 21 (with bonuses) for 12 hp if that hits, 3 hp if it misses. Even roll, so Defensive Fighting is in effect--my AC is 23.

09:57, Today: Sigmund rolled 12 using 3d8+4. Damage if that hits.

Seeing the tripod is stunned and Sigmund seems to be taking care of it, Vethryn turns her attention to the ballista, hoping that Ushug's bolts of light can split wood as well as flesh.  At the very least, she should be able to undo the repairs the workers have done.

OOC: due to my war talent, anyone before me in the init order has +1 vs the tripod, and anyone after me has +1 vs the ballista.

Zanne's next motion is becoming familiar, as she tosses a bolt of fire at the same ballista that the workers are rushing to repair.

15 vs ballista's PD is probably a miss, so it takes 3 damage. On the off chance that was a hit, it takes 3 fire damage and 7 ongoing.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
The mechanical workers scrambling to repair the ballista leave themselves wide open to Gilad's attack, and the bard feels another pang of hunger from his necrotic blade, as if the sword delights in preying upon the weak. Pushing this from his mind, Gilad furiously slashes into the workers, his sabre carving apart his clockwork foes. All the while, the bard continues his song of life, and feels his own strength returning after that nasty blow he took from the tripod.

With the workers dispatched, Gilad resumes his assault on the ballista, but his blade only slashes through a few sections of plating. "Hurry, let's take this thing apart!" he shouts back to his friends.

My opportunity attack is a critical hit! 40 damage to the workers.

Song of Aid is sustained thanks to my Songmaster talent bonus. Gilad targets himself this round, and gets 16 temporary hit points.

Gilad attacks Ballista #1 again on his turn, but misses, for 3 miss damage. Using the It's All Yours battle cry to give +2 attack to the next person who attacks this ballista.

Gilad Rott rolled 29 using 1d20+9. Opportunity attack.
Gilad Rott rolled 15 using 3d8+5. Damage (crit, doubled).
Gilad Rott rolled 10 using 3d10. Crit bonus damage.

Seeing Gilad focus on the ballista, the druid joins him. He swings his mighty stone hammer, but does little to the ballista. He calls on the power of the earth and most of his minor wounds heal into faint stone scars.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Gilad smashes the three workers to pieces with one sweeping blow before they can effect any repairs on the ballista.

He continues hacking at the gearwork, and is joined by Durum, while Vethryn and Zanne hurl magic. Only Vethryn's bolt of divine energy does more than superficial damage.

Sigmund scores a glancing blow but Shakru joins the fray with and cleaves a noticeable dent in the tripod's thick iron leg.

Shakru did 40 damage to the tripod.

Three more workers try to repair the damaged ballista.

Opportunity attacks from Durum and Gilad please.

The tripod shoots a jet of liquid fire Gilad and Durum. Gilad manages to throw himself to the ground at the last moment, but Durum is doused in flaming oil.

20 Damage Durum and 10 ongoing. Did I miss you spending a recovery earlier as well? This will put you on 4 HP and the ongoing damage will take you out at the end of the round.

The tripod then stomps down on Sigmund. Hard.

36HP Damage Sigmund

Round 3. Escalation dice +3. Init order: Tripod, Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, Workers.

Gilad scrambles back to his feet, the tip of his plumed hat singed by the blast of fire from the tripod.

"Steady now, master Stoneguard!" he grunts, trying to pull Durum out of the flaming oil. "We're not finished yet!"

Preoccupied, the bard is in no position to strike as three more clockwork workers rush by him to repair the ballista. He frantically slashes at them, but the trio ward off his futile blows.

With an exasperated cry, Gilad thrusts his sword into the ballista instead, this time cleaving straight through the device's plating.

Gilad's opportunity attack is a fumble, no damage to the workers.

Song of Aid is sustained thanks to my Songmaster talent. 10 temp hit points to Durum, which should be enough to keep him alive vs the ongoing damage this round.

On his turn, Gilad hits Ballista #1 for 21 damage, which I believe should be enough to destroy it if the workers don't get a chance to repair it (hope Durum's Opportunity Attack hits!).

I'll also use the melee attack to trigger my Take Heart! battle cry, giving Durum a saving throw right now, on Gilad's turn.
