Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
OOC Before being engulfed in burning, Durum should have been at 40 hit points. He slowly heals himself using Warrior's Blessing during combat, he used it in the post immediately before you decided to go all Trogdor on him. I track his hit points and recoveries in the Biography.

As the workers attempt to repair the ballista they drop their guard and Durum strikes at them. Then the tripod coats him in flaming oil and Durum roars in pain but quickly shrugs it off.

Despite the pain, Durum focuses on defending the natural world. He strikes out at the ballista again. This time he gets a solid strike against the construct. He feels the power of stone fill him and he a spell is granted to him for use in the next few seconds.

Gilad's magic extinguishes the flames that had engulfed the dwarven druid.

Opportunity Attacks:
Vs Worker 1: Critical hit for 18 damage.
Vs Worker 2: 20 vs AC; 11 damage on a hit, 3 on a miss.
Vs Worker 3: 19 vs AC; 9 damage on a hit, 3 on a miss.
18:07, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 31 using 1d20+11. Warhammer (opportunity attack).
18:12, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 18 using 2d8+12. Warhammer (damage, critical).
18:07, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 20 using 1d20+11. Warhammer (opportunity attack).
18:12, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 11 using 1d8+6. Warhammer (damage).
18:07, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 19 using 1d20+11. Warhammer (opportunity attack).
18:12, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 9 using 1d8+6. Warhammer (damage).

Upon being hit by the flaming oil, Durum triggers That's Your Best Shot? and recovers 26 hit points bringing him to 45 and full.
18:18, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 26 using 3d10+3. Recovery.

Attack vs Ballista: 30 vs AC; 14 damage. He activates Elemental Pivot.
18:21, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 30 using 1d20+12. Warhammer (attack).
18:21, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 14 using 1d8+6. Warhammer (damage).

He takes 10 fire damage, reducing him to 35 hit points. And he fails to save against the ongoing damage.

Edit: Gilad gave Durum 10 temporary hit points and ended the ongoing fire damage. That puts Durum at full hit points plus 10 temporary hit points. He is at 55 out of 45 hit points currently.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Durum smashes the three incoming workers to pieces before they even reach the damaged ballista.

Since they are minions you only need to roll once Durum.

Shakru once again puts a huge dent in the tripod's leg.

No rage Shakru! I took your first roll, and you should have been on +10 rather than +7 so you hit

Zanne scorches two more workers, but they still manage to stagger on towards the ballista.

Gilad's blow finally disables the firing mechanism, but given time the workers could fix it. Sigmund and Vethryn add to the damage.

Vander scores two glancing blows on the tripod's leg. It now is moving with a pronounced limp.

Sigmund dispatches two more workers.

Durum's hammer blow puts the ballista even further beyond hope of repair.

The three damaged workers try and repair the damage.

Opportunity attacks again Durum and Gilad.

The second tripod, acting on instructions buried deep in its infernal clockwork brain, starts stalking towards the battle to join its twin.

Second tripod will be in play next round.

The first tripod, now staggered, none the less manages to stomp Shakru into the ground, leaving the half orc senseless.

36HP damage Shakru, you are now on -6

Round 4. Escalation dice +4. Init order: Tripod, Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, Workers.

In reply to The Empire (msg # 333):

"Hell with this!" Vander snarled, getting angry. He leapt, and grabbed the new tripod's leg, swinging up and climbing like a monkey up its massive structure. He stabbed a dagger into its glowing crystal eye port on top of its head area, and then flipped another dagger into his hand. Tossing the other dagger into the first tripod's eye area just as he did before.

(OOC-Doing slick feint twice, via my elven grace power.

Got a nat 20 with the first attack, however, it does not do damage-just dazes the foe. Not sure what it will do.

With my elven grace action-I daze the other tripod as well.

I also get an extra attack on another foe via each slick feint, but both are misses on each tripod.

As a result, both take 3 damage each-but both are also dazed.

Vethryn shouts something at Shakru in orcish.  "Pain and injuries are but illusions to those who Ushug favours!"  He finds himself bathed in a bright glow, and indeed his injuries seem to recede and he finds himself able to stand again.

She follows up by shooting a bolt of light at the tripod, cracking its armour.

OOC: Healing Shakru, +6 bonus to your heal roll.

With the ballista out of action, at least for the moment, Gilad looks back at the battle behind him, seeing both tripods advancing into the fray against his friends. The bard darts back towards the battle, slashing at another of the workers as it rushes by him towards the broken ballista.

Making for the battered tripod, Gilad strikes his sabre into the leg that just crashed down on Shakru, trying to knock it off balance long enough for the orc to regain his bearings. "Tis no match for us!" he calls over to Sigmund, seeing his ally smashing into another of the tripod's legs.

Opportunity attack misses, dealing 3 miss damage.

Song of Aid is sustained. Granting 11 temporary hit points to Sigmund.

Moving to attack the staggered tripod. I assume a 31 vs AC hits, dealing 18 damage. Using my Hang Tough battle cry to give Shakru 8 temporary hit points.

OOC First my opportunity attack is a critical. That's 35 damage!
19:11, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 33 using 1d20+13. Opportunity Attack.
19:12, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 35 using 6d8+12. Warhammer (opportunity damage, critical).

As the workers ignore Durum's hammer in an attempt to repair the ballista, the druid takes advantage of the situation and deals a deadly blow to the clockwork fiends. With the immediate threat of the ballista taken care of, Durum's attention is drawn to the battle against the tripod.

With a gesture, Durum unleashes the power of nature to strike at the tripod. Hail rains down striking the tripod's leg and the nearby lesser clockwork creatures. Durum charges across the battlefield and performs a flashy, yet pointless, tumble and strikes at one of the tripod's legs. His hammer strikes the construct's leg with a solid blow.

OOC Due to Elemental Pivot last round, Durum casts Hail Hail as a quick action this round. 23 vs. the tripod's PD. On a hit, the tripod takes 13 cold damage and all nearby mooks take 2 cold damage. On a miss, 3 damage to the tripod and nothing to the mooks.
Durum follows that up by closing with the tripod and attacking with his warhammer. 28 vs. the tripod's AC. On a hit, 27 damage. On a miss, 3 damage.
19:22, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 22 23 using 1d20+9. Hail Hail (attack).
19:23, Today: Durum Stoneguard rolled 13 using 3d6+2. Hail Hail (primary damage).

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Zanne and Sigmund barely graze the tripod, but Gilad, Vethrn and Durum do some major damage. The first tripod is now moving with a pronounced limp but it's head is sparking and leaking steam and looks ready to blow!

Vander's pinpoint dagger throws stun both the staggered and the incoming tripod as they try to recalibrate their sensors.

Shakru is healed by Vethrn's divine magic and given more heart by Gilad.

Shakru, you are up and on 26HPs.

Durum smashes the workers moving in to repair the ballista, but then follows Gilad to concentrate on the tripod. Seeking their chance, the remaining nine workers swarm over the device, their claws moving too fast to follow as their repair the damage.

Only 5 can work on it at a time, but the ballista is now on -2HPs.

Round 5. Escalation dice +5. Init order: Tripod, Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, Workers.

"I, uh, don't think we want to stand too close to that right about now." Gilad remarks to Sigmund and Shakru, noticing the sparks sputtering out of the tripod they've been striking.

The bard begins to back away, and catches sight of the mechanical workers reassembling the ballista. "Not so fast!" Gilad turns sharply and charges back towards the ballista, slashing left and right through the throng of clockwork men.

Song of Aid is sustained, giving 11 temp hit points to Vethryn.

Shakru lands another mighty blow on the leg of the first tripod, which topples to the ground like a felled tree, legs jerking spasmodically. Seeing his chance, Sigmund rushes to the head and thrusts his longsword into one of it's crystal eyes. With a groan of steam, the abomination falls still..

Durum and Gilad each smash three workers to smithereens. The remaining three in this area blindly rush the ballista again, scuttling over the twisted remains of their brethren.

You both get an opportunity attack to stop them before they complete the repairs.

The final tripod stalks over to the Gilad and Durum and tries to stomp on the druid but misses by a wide margin, still groggy from Vander's attack.

As the workers blindly try to repair the ballista, Durum strikes out at them with his hammer once more. But with the tripod's attention on him, he then turns and strikes at its leg. As his hammer strikes the metal leg, he feels natures power surge in him.

Slashing down the last of the nearby workers, Gilad breathes a sigh of relief, just before the remaining tripod smashes down beside him and Durum. He's lost the beat of his song somewhere in the confusion, but the bard's swordplay is as keen as ever, and he plunges his rapier deep into one of the tripod's legs.

Opportunity attack hits the workers for 18 damage. Between me and Durum, I assume that takes out the remaining three.

Song of Aid fails to recharge. For my final verse, I'll grant myself a recovery use, which gives me 19 hit points. Updated my hp total on the sidebar (including temp hp).

Vethryn and Durum move to fight the tripod with Sigmund and Shakru. Only the barbarian fails to score a damaging hit. Zanne's blast of fire barely registers. Meanwhile Vander clings to the tripod's head stabbing deep to produce a gush of oil.

The tripod is now staggered and lurching dangerously. However, it still is a formidable oppoent, as it shows by stomping Shakru into the ground again...
