Gilad tries to circle the tripod to get to Shakru, but the massive machine's flailing keeps the bard at bay, deflecting his strikes.

A miss, dealing 3 damage. Using my It's All Yours battle cry: The next person who attacks the Tripod gets +2 to their roll.

Gilad Rott rolled 16 using 1d20+14 with rolls of 2. Melee Attack.

His attack skids off the leg of the tripod which in turn swings it in a crushing arc catching the half orc in the stomach sending him sprawling across the earth to end up in a tangled and dazed heap near the stockade

The giant machine manages to finally throw Vander off it's head. However, not before the theif once again knocks its sensor mechism off balance, thus causing it to try and regain its abilty to act once more. Vander does manage to use those huge legs to swing safly down to the ground without falling to his doom.

(OOC-14:02, Today: Vander rolled 20 using 1d20+16. Slick fient vs tripod's MD. Just barly a hit-but it still does. Thanks Gilad! Tripod is dazed once more. Is it still suffering from the ongoing damage I already did to it last round?)

"Up barbarian! Hew and slash, break and smash." Vethryn's voice falls into a compelling chant and a burning light sizzles at Shakru's wounds. "Let the rage fill you and destroy in Ushug's name!"

Not watching to see whether the half orc will rise or fail to heed Ushug's call, Vethryn turns her eyes to the tripod, wrapping her spear in holy flame with a canted orcish word, then hurling just the flaming javelin at the metal monstrosity.

Standard: Javelin of Faith

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
The stricken tripod totters, then unleashes a fountain of flaming oil on the three warriors engaging its legs. Sigmund dives out of the way, but Durum and Gilad are doused in burning oil.

26HP damage to you both, that puts Gilad on -11HP. Also 10 ongoing for Durum.

Then, fizzing and sparking, the tripod topples to the ground in an aurora of blood-red steam.

Zanne blows two of the loitering workers to pieces before they can even start to make their move on the damaged ballista.

Meanwhile, revived by Vethryn's faith, Shakru staggers to his feet.

Suddenly with a blast of steam, a dozen hatches open in the mechanical dart that you have prevented from launching. Whatever is inside, whatever force was to be launched at the High Ark... it's coming out!

Meanwhile the tines on the two other ballista launchers are still being pulled back by the infernal clockwork.

Round 8. Escalation dice +6. Init order: Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, Workers, Invaders.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Vander proceeded to vanish-hoping that Zanne and the others would be safe enough now that the final tripod was down. Of course, Gilad was in bad shape-but only a healer could help him, not Vander. He knew there was too many workers to fight directly-but maybe if he could take out the linkages it would slow them down...

Doused with burning oil, Durum roars with pain and fury. His belt pulses with power and his wounds partially close. With the tripod down and the first ballista opening up, he follows Sigmund to the next ballista. Unable to reach it quickly, he calls on the power of earth once it is nearby. Vines rise from the earth and tangle and rip the ballista. Another eye catching tumble roll puts out the burning oil that coats him leaving him scorched but not seriously wounded.

OOC: Calling on the Surge of his Girdle of the Undefeated. He recovers 16 hit points.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Staunching the burning oil with his cloak, Gilad hunches over, panting for breath. He takes one of the healing flasks from his satchel-- supplies from the ill-fated journey into the Sun Falls-- and pours a bit of the liquid over his burns, causing them to dissipate.

"That's... not good." he remarks, seeing the metal dart beginning to open. The bard backs away and scans the battlefield. Whatever's in there, it's not their only problem; the other two ballistae are still primed to fire when the High Ark's in range. Better try to take them out first...

Gilad makes his save, though he still takes this round's 10 ongoing damage first. As his standard action, he drinks one of those healing potions he's had since 2013 in order to spend a recovery with +1d8 bonus hp. Gains 14hp, for 20 total.

As my move action, I move to nearby Ballista #2.

Gilad Rott rolled 20 using 1d20. Save.
Gilad Rott rolled 14 using 4d8+2. Recovery (including potion bonus).

The bard rushes off alone and Vethryn's instincts flare. More combat to be had soon and likely a fool to pick up off the ground, when he found it. Following along in Gilad's wake, the elf readied another javelin of holy energy, launching it off at the ballista he was targeting.

Round 9.

The party jogs across the blasted hillside towards the second ballista, as behind them a horde of clockwork beasties surge out of the stricken craft. Around 1 metre long, they have been crafted to resemble various plant-eating insects, ready to drill, chop, grind and poison the biota of the High Ark. En masse they chase after the party, crawling over each other in their urge to rip into flesh and bone...

Round 10. Escalation dice +6. Init order: Shakru, Zanne, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund, Vethryn, Durum, workers, clockwork insects.

"Quite!" Gilad calls back to Vander. With any luck, the rogue's strike should keep this ballista from firing, but there's still those clockwork workers lurking about...

"As for you, we shan't give you a chance to repair your infernal mechanisms!" the bard proclaims, diving towards the workers. He weaves in and out amongst the group, furiously slashing through them with quick swipes of his sabre.

Gilad Rott rolled 25 using 1d20+14.  Melee Attack vs Workers.
Gilad Rott rolled 19 using 3d8+5.  Damage.

Gilad attacks the workers, dealing 19 damage. Roll was a natural 11; using my Hang Tough battle cry to give Durum 4 temp hp.

stepping away from the stricken tripod the Barbarian sees his friends head for the ballistas, knowing they need time to destroy the machines the half orc stepped into the oncoming horde.

Standing like a rock in a storm he twirled both battle axes as he spun one way then another  attacking as many of the creatures as he can.

Re: Chapter Two: Back to Brooken
Shakru, you aren't engaged with anyone at the moment (you need to be engaged to use Whirlwind), so easier to just attack them. I took the liberty of rolling for you, I am sure you will be pleased with the results.

Shakru spins round and rushes into the pursuing crowd, carving an arc of destruction as he smashes four clockwork insects to pieces and damages one more. The insects, although fast and strong, are powered by steam and tend to explode as their boiler is pierced.

Zanne blasts two more of the pursuing clockwork insects to pieces before being engulfed in melee.

Gilad wades into the crowd of workers, destroying two of the skeletal mechanisms and damaging a third.

Vander stabs deep into the chain linkage, jamming the mechanism. Deprived of their motive power, the arms stop moving back, while Vethryn and Sigmund do significant damage to the ballista itself.

Durum looses his footing while trying to take down more workers, hitting nothing.

Three workers rush to repair the linkage, and 3 more move to the ballista.

Vander, Sigmund, you both get an opportunity attack on the workers.

The 30 remaining clockwork insects fall on the party, blades and borers whirring furiously. Although obviously not designed with armoured foes in mind, they are still effective enough and only Vethryn escapes unscathed.

12HP damage Zanne - how much damage do you do to the insects that hit you??
4HP damage Gilad and Shakru.
16HP damage Vander.
12HP damage Sigmund.
4HP damage for Durum, negating Gilad's temp HP.

After your name in Init is the number of clockwork insects you are engaged with.

Round 11. Escalation dice +6. Init order: Shakru (1), Zanne(4), Gilad(5), Vander(5), Sigmund (5), Vethryn (5), Durum (5), workers, clockwork insects.

Ballisa 1-3, AC 20, 50HP to disable, -2/50, 22/50, 50/50

Looking around, the bard quickly tries to determine whether he can safely make it over to the nearest ballista...

Anyways, I notice the repair bots are drawn to any machine being damaged. If I damage a machine father away from the group-do I think I can lure them from the party?
