"I agree," says Vethryn.  "I don't like the look of that door, and I don't want to be ambushed from behind when something opens it.  And maybe we'll find somewhere more secluded to hole up for the night."

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"True, true." Gilad replies to Sigmund and Vethryn. "I'm sure we'll have to deal with that lovely sight beneath the throne sooner rather than later, but first let's gleam all we can from the palace. At least make sure there's no more of those beasts waiting to catch us unawares, or block off our exit once we descend below..."

Zanne nods. "Might as well clear out the rest of the dens before we start poking the horror door and it drops a giant something on our heads."

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Rhythis dug deep into his memory and came up with a spell that might help when they rest for the night. " I agree we should go on and explore a little more, if nothing else we might find something that tells us more about the door and what we might encounter there."

He looked over at Martin " I might have a spell that will bar a door from inside if we find a room to rest up in. It might not help much but it might allow us all a few hours uninterrupted sleep when the time comes"

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
You explore the rest of the palace as the afternoon wears on...

As before, you can make rolls for guarding, finding treasure or gathering cultural clues.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
As before, Vethryn keeps an eye out for hidden traps or ambushers.  Unusually for an elven cleric, she seems rather uninterested in the historical relics scattered around the building, or at least not confident in her ability to figure them out.

23:50, Sat 07 June 2014: Vethryn rolled 27 using 1d20+9 ((18)).

Zanne by this point was used to allowing the others to watch her back while she went searching through the rubble for more treasure.

21:14, Today: Zanne rolled 26 using 1d20+7. Int + Street Thief (looking for valuables).

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
As they continue searching the palace, Gilad recounts to the others what he's pieced together of the civilization's history.

"There's still much we don't know," the bard muses, continuing his search. "Did the tribesfolk exploit the powers of this fallen star to sate their own lust for conquest, or were they compelled by the star itself? Tisn't easy to keep a clear head while wearing that diadem, I can attest..."

Making his way through the sprawling rooms, Gilad continues trying to uncover clues about the history behind this forgotten empire...

Gilad Rott rolled 11 using 1d20+8 with rolls of 3. INT Check + Wandering Minstrel.

Vander knew how to look for valuables. It was his job before this one after all. Granted, he would pry the gems loose for their mooring if need be...

(OOC-16:58, Today: Vander rolled 14 using 1d20+8. Search for goodies.)

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Rhythis looks to casually stroll around as they move from room to room looking slightly disinterested at things they come across.

In fact his mind is racing, studying things and making mental notes. His eyes are the only thing that are moving all over the place looking in every corner and crevice he passes.

OOC: 08:34, Today: Rhythis Silverhand rolled 12 using 1d20+8. Using int and Dungeon dwelling specialty.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
You explore the rest of the palace, but find little more of interest. Zanne recovers a curious artifact, a small mirror framed in platinum, but with a skin of necrotic matter instead of silvered glass. Strange runes are carved on the frame, and it pulses with magical energy. Zanne will need time to study this further.

While scouting the upper levels Vaethryn's keen eye spots a small trapdoor in the ceiling of a dusty storeroom. It leads to a large attic space, with a small window overlooking the plaza and no other ways in - a perfect place to spend the night if necessary.

By the time you are done the sun has moved below the cliff to the west and soon night will fall in earnest...

"Well, its sounds like we should have a watch schedule planned. I call last! 1-2-3 no backies!" He quickly started to set up his bedroll, before anyone could object.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
BTW, you are not currently in the attic that you discovered earlier during the afternoon. In fact you are now just outside the throne room, having completed your sweep of the palace. In fact, I was under the impression the consensus was for no rest...

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"Before we rest, I would really like to open that door," says Vethryn. "I have a really bad feeling about what might come out."  She holds her holy symbol in her hand and stares at it, as though it is telling her something.  "It's always better to confront danger than to let it come to you."

"Best to avoid it altogether," is Zanne's opinion. "But since we're well past that point, yeah, let's get this over with. Who wants to be the first to poke it with a stick?"

Martin may be near the end of his endurance, but he will not shy from danger. Still, he does shift to a more defensive posture. He sheaths the Sword of the Storm and readies his shield and mace.

Once ready, he steps up ready to support Sigmund.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"Seems this is all that's left to explore." Gilad muses, looking at the mysterious necrotic door. "Can't say I expect to find anything pleasant on the other side, but after coming all this way, I can't very well imagine turning back without seeing what lies behind it."

The bard watches as Sigmund tries to open the door, ready to aid him should any new threat emerge...

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Although it is clearly a door, there are no sign of any handles, just an unbroken sheet sheet of off-white necrotic matter that fills the archway. Will you attempt to walk through it Sigmund?

Sigmund stops and stares at the door. He looks at it carefully, then describes it to the others.

"It seems unwise to just walk through. Any suggestions from you magical experts?" he says, turning to the others.

In reply to Sigmund (msg # 449):

"Hang on, let me check..." Vander says. Traps where his speciality-so he started to look about the struture for that very thing. Hopefully he could avoid the worst of it...

(OOC-Using thief trap sense.

14:02, Today: Vander rolled 17 using 1d20+8. Theif+wis+level.

As roll is odd, and if its a failure, trap must re-roll if it hits Vander.)
