Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
While Vander examined the mundane structure, Zanne carefully examined the door with her arcane senses, doing her best not to trigger anything... unfortunate. "We can always try throwing a rock at it," she muses.

10:25, Today: Zanne rolled 24 using 1d20+6. Int + Shadow Sorc + Level.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"Loathe as I am to suggest it," Gilad frowns, "Perhaps the barrier was built to be opened through the same means the creatures of this substance are commanded..."

The bard looks over at the diadem, in Vethryn's posession.

"But we should look for other options before resorting to that." he adds.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
The little wizard rolled up his sleeves and readied his wand. He took a conscious decision to step closer to Martin Black not for his own protection but to be able to protect the warrior in case his wounds got the better of him.

He looked up at the big man gave a nod, took a deep breath and waited for their next foolish endeavour to commence.

To Zanne's mystic senses the door seems little different to the necrotic constructs you fought earlier.

Sigmund listens to all this, finds a rock about as big as his hand and tosses it at the barrier.

The hits the necrotic barrier and sticks to it like a fly in a web. It is swiftly broken down into sludge with an oppressive hissing sound.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Rhythis moved forward and studied the area to the left and right of the barrier making sure not to touch it. He thinks back to his past and tried to remember if he'd come across something similar in his travels.

OOC: 09:29, Today: Rhythis Silverhand rolled 21 using 1d20+8. Int roll + dungeon delving recovery specialist.

Neither Rythis nor Vander can come up with any way to bypass the necrotic portal.

Sigmund scratches his chin. "Maybe if I took off all of my clothes and armor and walked in without them, it would take me." He starts taking off his armor, putting it neatly next to him.

"Before you try that, let's see if those creatures can pass through."

Vethryn goes and picks up a severed limb from one of the creatures they fought before, and tosses it at the portal.

In reply to Sigmund (msg # 461):

"Or maybe it would kill you! Don't forget that option! Yeesh!" He said, ready to try and stop the warrior in case he attempt his suicidal plan. Then again, Sigmund was far bigger and stronger than Vander-who was more quick and graceful. Chances are in a contest of strength, Vander would loose...

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
the little wizard whispered a word and a little glowing light fluttered out of his robe pocket. in hushed tones he talked to it but for a moment it looked for all the world like it was answering him back and that they were having some sort of quiet argument.

Eventually the little light flashed in what could only be called anger before floating off towards the barrier. It stopped for a moment seemed to turn to the wizard who nodded and with a sigh it flew into the barrier.

OOC: Rhythis is seeing if the barrier will stop a simple magical energy sprite (one of the things that constantly fly round him)passing through - should I roll anything?

The magical sprite is sadly frazzled by the necrotic matter, expiring with a pitiful sigh.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
he little wizard sighed then cupped his hands blew on them and out sprang the same little sprite. It pointed a finger at her master and wagged it while squeaking at him. Rhythis nodded and blushed like a child being scolded.

Having finished the little sprite did a loop round the wizards head then zipped back into the folds of his cloak.

Rhythis looked round at the others and cleared his throat " ah.... it would seem that the barrier also protects against magical access as well"

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"Careful, or you might have a revolt on your hands." Gilad grins at Rhythis and his annoyed sprite. Still, that moment of brevity hasn't brought them any closer to finding a way around this conundrum.

The bard takes another rueful glance at the barrier before looking over at Vethryn tossing a piece of one of the necrotic creatures into the doorway, interested to see whether the beings made of the same substance will be similarly destroyed...

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Vethryn climbs back up the spiral stairway to the site of the battle, but very little of the creatures remain, the curdled necrotic matter that made up their shells having swiftly deliquesced. However she salvages a fair sided piece of carapace and returns to the door just as Rythis' sprite expires.

Vethryn wastes no time in tossing the chunk at the barrier, which deforms in a dimple shape before the missile is seamlessly absorbed. However, the sheen of matter looked stretched for a second. You reckon something sharper of the same material might cut through...

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"Hmm..." Gilad looks down at the curved blade he'd found atop the behemoth outside, seemingly made from the same necrotic material as the other products of this strange fallen star.

Cautiously, the bard rakes the tip of the sword across the barrier, curious to see if it has any effect.

Sigmund watches, his eyes pools of analysis. As if to give himself comfort in this unusual, uncomfortable situation, he re-fastened the armor that he was taking off a moment ago, and continues to feel his armor bindings without looking at them in an almost fidgety way.

"Please, give him a chance before you die-ok?" He said to the warrior, still trying to talk him down. Then he noticed Sigmund re-attaching his armor, and hoped that was a good sign.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Gilad's blade slices cleanly through the barrier, briefly revealing a dimly lit corridor beyond before the rift quickly closes up. With a little experimentation, Gilad discovers with four swift slices he can cut out a small opening that will allow someone to jump through before it seals itself... if they are fast.

Once Gilad has cut you an opening, make a Dex or Str roll DC18 to dive through the gap (add level and backgrounds if applicable). Fail, and your legs clip the barrier on the way through. Take d10 damage. Fail by more than five and you don't make it through and take 2d10 damage.

In reply to The Empire (msg # 473):

Vander sees the opening, gestures to it via his thumb to Sigmund. "See? This is a MUCH better way to kill your self..." He sighed. He readies himself, and then acrobatically flings himself through the opening.

(OOC-12:21, Today: Vander rolled 21 using 1d20+11. Thief+dex+level. I would say the trap expert of the Rouge class might help-but I had my roll...)

Vethryn follows close behind. "Just pretend you're jumping onto a ship," she mutters to herself, before taking a running jump and diving through the hole with surprising speed.

21:27, Today: Vethryn rolled 23 using 1d20+8. str + shadow port + level.
