OOC 12:23, Today: Martin Black rolled 26 using 1d20+9. Str + Shepherd + Level.

"Sort of like hoping across the moors in spring," Martin says to himself as he gets ready to jump through. He leaps through the opening and lands on his shield. He rolls to his feet and is ready for action. "A little danger really gets the heart going."

He takes a look around the new chamber. His eyes and ears searching for danger.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
The corridor continues for a few yards more then descends in a shallow ramp leading down the bedrock below the palace. The passage is lit by intermittent sconces, but instead of torches they hold a dimly glowing lumps of necrotic material that bathe everything in an unhealthy red light. The siren call of the thing under the ziggurat intrudes strongly once again, drawing you onwards and downwards...

Again, we will use the same system for exploring the complex below the palace. So guard, search or try to understand these people further.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Unlike the decaying opulence of the palace, the catacombs are walled with damp, undressed stone and lit by the fading light of the necrotic torches. There are vast storerooms and barracks, laboratories and torture chambers, and ghastly cells piled high with mouldering skeletons. Necrotic being are everywhere, mostly barely on their last legs. There are hundreds of different types, all created for a different purpose, most of which remain obscure. Unlike the soldier types you encountered upstairs, they are all motionless and do not react to your presence, although at times you think you hear skittering sounds as if something is shadowing you path.

In one strange laboratory, half taken up by a convoluted series of necrotic pustules linked by silver wires, Zanne spots a huge diamond the size of her fist atop a stone workbench. However, as soon as she touches the gem it melts into her hand with a sparkle and a smell like fresh rain. Zanne feels... energised.

Zanne, the benefits of this will take time to show themselves further.

A few hours before midnight, you find yourselves following wide, sloping passage leading down towards the space under the ziggurat where the source of the necrotic matter lies. The

Luckily Sigmund has his wits about him, as the floor in front moves beneath his probing boot. There is a hinged length of floor around 20ft in length, balanced to tip over unless you walk in single file down the middle. Once you all have crossed, Sigmund's spins the floor round, and gets a brief glimpse of a pool of necrotic liquid below.

You are now a dozen yards from the entrance to the ziggurat chamber, and the dirty grey light it emits mixes with the red glow of the necrotic torches. The siren song of the being is strong now. Any further and you may surrender to it...

If you want to proceed, make a Wis roll DC11 or lose the will to stop advancing. As before, skills may apply, but I will be stricter than normal.

Vander shook his head, as if trying to ring the light's 'music' out of it. "This...this is another con job. And I know Con jobs. You think I have not pulled some distracting crap like this before? I...I have!" He said, struggling with the alien influence on his mind.

(OOC-I included my background, however, even if you do not count it-I still rolled high enough to resist without the +3.

03:37, Today: Vander rolled 19 using 1d20+6. Wis+level+Cannot bullshit a bullshit artist.)

Sigmund grunts. "I've seen worse than this," he growls, as he forces his feet forward, one step at a time....

Rolled a 13 on the die, so the background is secondary, but I applied Orc War Veteran as he has faced fear many times before.

14:44, Today: Sigmund rolled 19 using 1d20+6. Orc War Veteran + Level.

Zanne was quick, and charming, and smart enough, but no one had ever called her steadfast. Still, she could be stubborn, and manages to dig deep enough to push away the siren song of the 'egg'.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Martin hears the siren song and it pulls at him. His fatigue argues in favor of listening and he is on the verge of giving in. What is wrong with you mortal? This is an abomination, whispers the voice the Blue's voice in his head. You're stronger that this, you must be.

Martin's attention and focus snaps back to reality. He tightens his grip on his mace and looks around quickly. He glances at his companions to make sure they're okay.

"We'd best keep moving," he says out loud. "There's no reason to give this enchantment time to take hold."

Edit: Sorry I forgot to include this. 10:59, Today: Martin Black rolled 14 using 1d20+5. Wis+Level+Whispers of the Blue.

"Mayhaps we should turn back..." Gilad muses. "We already know of this fallen star's power, and the danger it poses. Why risk ourselves further just to sate our curiousity? 'Tis reckless, and foolhardy, and..."

The bard pauses and blinks.

"...and an opportunity I wouldn't miss for the world." Gilad grins, shaking off the mental compulsions as he and the others move on.

Gilad Rott rolled 12 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 11. WIS Check.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Vethryn's god offers many gifts, but strength of will is not one of them, and so she turns to a different part of her religious education.

"Protect me from the lies of the demons, O Gods of Truth, protect me from the darkness of the evil spirits, O Gods of Light, protect me from the ... something something... O Gods of Strength..."

She wishes she'd paid a bit more attention in the cathedral, but the effort of trying to remember the old prayers clears her mind.

20:03, Today: Vethryn rolled 17 using 1d20+5. wis + cathedral novice.
Made the roll regardless of if the background was accepted.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
All of the party find the will to resist the siren call of the necrotic sphere as you enter the chamber below the ziggurat. The room is circular, around 100ft in diameter, with the floor a huge shallow bowl, lined with black stone - perhaps the same stone that encased the sphere when it fell to earth, according to the murals in the palace. A wide walkway runs around the circumference of the room, raised a yard above the bowl, and there are wide exits at all four cardinal points. From each exit a tongue of stone, perhaps 20 ft long, extends out over the bowl under the sphere, which is floating around a dozen yards above the bowl as if repulsed by the black stone. The nacreous patterns swirling around the sphere seem to move more purposefully as you enter the chamber as if there sphere is aware of your presence...
