Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
When the ziggurat comes down, Martin sighs and relaxes. When the debris begin to hit, Martin is surprised when Sigmund saves him from a deadly piece of masonry. Unfortunately Sigmund is knocked unconscious instead.

"Vethryn," he calls out. "Sigmund needs your magic!"

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
In spite of his exhaustion, the bard has enough sense left to notice a piece of stone debris falling towards him, and ducks to one side.

"'Twould appear we've cheated death... again." he murmurs, looking wistfully at the smoldering ruin they've just escaped.

Gilad Rott rolled 1 using 1d3-1. Falling debris.
Gilad Rott rolled 12 using 1d20+8. Debris "attack".

Can I Rally to spend a recovery right now?

Once Vethryn has healed Sigmund, Martin turns to Gilad. "It's dead then? Good."

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
The Empire:
Gilad's face twists in concentration as his wrestles with the ancient, powerful will that drives the necrotic entity. In the end the bard triumphs and, with a deep, bass roar the sphere explodes smashing the ziggurat into a fountain of masonry and leaving a deep, smoking crater where the plaza stood moments before.

Sigmund's eyes go wide. "Oh, YES!" he says with a clap of the hands.

quote:
A few seconds later a rain of debris falls onto the remains on the city, showering the party with a hail of smoking rocks.

Sigmund winces. "Oh, no," he growls.

A piece of rock flies right at his head, hitting the warrior on the side of it. Despite the ringing in his ears, he nevertheless leaps to intercept a piece of rock flying at Martin....

One piece of rock targeting me, hits for 16 hp. Ow.

Use Skilled Intercept to take the hit that Martin would have taken, so I take another 16.

23:10, Today: Sigmund rolled 11 using 1d20. Skilled Intercept for Martin.
23:10, Today: Sigmund rolled 16 using 1d20. Rock damage.
23:10, Today: Sigmund rolled 21 using 1d20+8. Rock attack.
23:09, Today: Sigmund rolled 1 using 1d3-1. targeting rock.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"I... think so." Gilad answers Martin, taking a moment to catch his breath. The bard looks back down at the wreckage in the plaza, waiting to see if he can still sense any other consciousness through the diadem...

"There's still so much we don't know about this valley and its sordid past..."

Gilad Rott rolled 8 using 2d8+2. Recovery.

Now that the sphere's dead, can I take the diadem off without a problem, or is it still clouding my mind like last time?

EDIT: Extra 4hp thanks to Vethryn.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
The diadem seems inert, and does not react when Gilad tries to remove it. However, the bard quickly realises how far it has dug into his skull when he gives an experimental tug.

Yanking out the circlet will do double the HP damage you spent to let it infiltrate your skull i.e. 52HPs. You may want to level up a few times first :)

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
He headed over to Zanne to see what he could do for her. She was hurt, and he had no ability to heal. "Vethryn, when you get a chance-save some of that good magic for Zanne!" He said. Then again, many where much more badly hurt than her-but Vander did not mention that aloud.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Zanne slowly climbs to her feet, waving Vander off. "I'm fine." She winces as she starts to move. "Mostly."

She looks over at Gilad's wistful tone. "Right now, I'm fine with that. We came, we saw, it blew up. Let's just find a place to rest now, and if anything tries to disturb me I'm going to set it on fire."

10:45, Today: Zanne rolled 10 using 2d6+2. Recovery.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Vethryn seems preoccupied, and sits staring into the distance before Vander mentions her name.

"I agree, we should rest immediately.  I'm amazed so many of us survived that.  I... I did not realize how much danger we were in.  I was arrogant, perhaps, overconfident of our strength.  We should make sure we can all tend to our wounds before getting in any more trouble."

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Eep!

Gilad frowns as he runs a hand over the circlet, realizing how deeply he'd allowed it to entangle his mind.

"Well, it'll make an interesting conversation piece." he mutters. "Smaller price than Rhythis paid."

Gilad pats off his plumed hat and adjusts it over his head, mostly obscuring the artifact now nearly fused into his skull.

"You're right, we all need a rest." The bard agrees with Zanne and Vethryn. "On the morn, we can see if there's aught else to explore here, or start our journey back to civilization..."

"Of course, this would be a good time to ambush us, when we are weak," says Vethryn, peering around.  She'd spent many long nights standing guard for enemies in the wilderness, and knows a little of what to look for, but the way the light reflects off the stone buildings makes it harder for her to see.

10:37, Today: Vethryn rolled 15 using 1d20+9. Spotting enemies (frost range acolyte).

Although Gilad's mind is still preoccupied with the ordeal they've just endured, his years of treasure hunting have honed the bard's sense for spotting things out of the corners of his eyes...

Gilad Rott rolled 18 using 1d20+5. WIS + Treasure Hunter.

Vander stayed near Zanne, despite her claims of being ok. Thinking of her suddenly dead had made him a bit on edge. Given the current situation, that turned out to be a good thing...

Vander quickly moves Zanne to cover, and cries out "AMBUSH!" and points at the spots where the archers where. Once Zanne is somewhat protected, he will attempt to vanish...

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
"Wha-- damn it!" Gilad barks, startled by Vander's exclamation. He quickly draws his blade, watching the positions where Vander pointed out the archers.

"Whoever you are... we're not looking for a fight." The bard raises his voice, calling to the goblins. He's not sure they speak the same language, but hopefully they'll recognize his tone isn't aggressive. "There's been enough blood spilled today. If you're investigating that explosion, we can tell you what we know..."

Gilad Rott rolled 29 using 1d20+12. CHA Check + Wandering Minstrel.
It may be futile, but I'm trying diplomacy!

Seconding Vander; should we roll Initiative?

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
The goblins freeze as they are spotted and seconds later a large hobgoblin steps froward out of the shadows with his hands held up placatingly.

"No need for violence, indeed we agree" he says in a syrupy, high-pitched tone. "We are looking for our old friend Sigos ir and I see that he is here" the hobgoblin continues, looking a Sigmund, before directing the next comments to him alone. "We serve someone who very much wants to meet you, yes indeed. So come quietly and we'll let the others walk away"

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Vethryn smiles back, in a distinctly unfriendly way. You suddenly see a side of her you haven't seen before - a certain swagger, an air of menace - and get the impression there may be more to her past than the devout cleric you know well.

"I am glad to see you have been reunited with your friend. But under the current circumstances, I must insist that he stay here. You should not go wandering off either.  We have just defeated some of the ancient evils that lurk around this place" - it's only partially a lie - " which, I have no doubt, would easily destroy you should you go stumble across one.  And since we are all friends here, perhaps the meeting could take place with all of us together."

11:19, Today: Vethryn rolled 26 using 1d20+7. shadow port + cha to intimidate.
