Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
The orc attacking Vethryn glances over when the bard starts shouting, and that gives Vethryn the moment she needs.  She ducks away from the berserker and points towards Sigmund. "Ushug, show him your favour!" He is suddenly wreathed in light, and the orcs cannot help but avert their eyes. The light leaps towards the closest orc, but it is not quite clear if he was harmed by it...

OOC:  I took the free move since my first disengage failed, if nobody objects...  I can't use my encounter power if I'm engaged, and I think it might help Sigmund more.

If 15 hit versus the orc berserker MD, 13 damage to the berserker engaged with Sigmund and Sigmund gets +4 AC until the end of my next turn. Otherwise, Sigmund gets +2 AC.  (I think Sigmund is the one with the lowest HP right now?)

Also, +1 bonus to attacks vs that berserker.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Vethryn's magic burns the berserker fighting Sigmund to death in a divine fire, but once again the tattoos shine and the orc is brought back to fight again. Gilad gets in another nick while it is still blinking in surprise.

Then Sigmund drives six inches of steel into the hobgoblin's skull. He drops without a sound.

Round 3. Escalation dice +2. Init Order: Shakru, Orc Shaman, Zanne, Orc Barbarians, Vethryn, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund.

Gilad is engaged with a staggered berserker.
Shakru is engaged with a staggered orcish shaman and two orc berserkers.
There is one staggered berserker free.

Shakru, you're up!

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Shakru gripped the orc's spear hand in one of his Beaty fists while his other grasped the creature's throat. This was a struggle of strength and both participants put their full force behind it.

Slowly the spear blade started to move sliding millimetre by millimetre out of his side. The pain was intense but the half Orc took that pain and channeled it into his effort to beat his opponent. The more the pain the more the red cloud of rage took over him.

OOC 10:48, Today: Shakru rolled 8 using 1d20+3. To hit 2.
10:48, Today: Shakru rolled 18 using 1d20+3. To hit 1.

10:49, Today: Shakru rolled 27 using 1d20+9. Strength roll 2.
10:49, Today: Shakru rolled 17 using 1d20+9. Strength roll 1.

Total to hit roll: 18

Total strength roll: 27

The shaman dodges your clumsy stab, then utters an orcish curse that marks you for death.

You will take d4 more damage from all orcs for the rest of this battle.

With the leader down, Zanne switches elements and targets, hurling a ball of fire towards the shaman's back.

Sorry for the delay- I missed that it was my turn. 27 vs PD. 6 fire damage and 6 ongoing to the shaman.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Zanne's blast crips the shaman; she falls to the floor and smokes quietly.

The two berserkers fighting Shakru give a roar of anger and continue to hack away with their battleaxes. One of them gets past the half-orc's guard and deals him a nasty cut.

16HP damage Shakru, you are on 5HP.

The two recently dead beserkers attack, one targeting Vethryn the other Sigmund. Both swings miss, but Sigmund seems to feel time slow allowing him to jerks out of the way of a certain hit.

Vethryn feels Ushug's brief intervention as a burst of religious joy.

+2 on whatever you do this round Vethryn.

Round 3. Escalation dice +2. Init Order: Shakru, Orc Shaman, Zanne, Orc Barbarians, Vethryn, Gilad, Vander, Sigmund.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Ducking around the wild swings of the berserker engaged with him and Sigmund, Gilad lunges forward with a perfectly-timed thrust, his blade impaling the orc straight through its forehead.

As the bard takes a moment's breath, he looks over to the battle between the half-orc and the other berserkers, seeing things going worse for the lone warrior.

"We... we should help him." Gilad says to his friends.

"You shan't fight alone!" he calls to the babarian. Sabre in hand, the bard breaks into a run towards Shakru and his enemies.

Gilad Rott rolled 29 using 1d20+9 with rolls of 20. Melee Attack.
Gilad Rott rolled 12 using 2d8+5 with rolls of 5,2. Melee Damage (crit, doubled).

A critical hit! 24 damage, which should be more than enough to kill the berserker Gilad's engaged with. Pity they're not mooks and I can't carry that damage over to the others.

Since that's a natural even roll, I'm using Pull it Together! on Shakru, who can spend a recovery to heal and gains +2d4 bonus healing.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Shakru staggered back, he was used to being cut but this was deep and for a moment he felt his strength ebb. Just then a shout from across the battle field lifted his spirits. The strangers who had joined the fight were coming to his aid.

With a deep breath he felt his spirit lift and he once again joined the fight.

OOC:08:06, Today: Shakru rolled 2 using 2d4. bonus healing.
08:05, Today: Shakru rolled 13 using 3d12+2. recovery roll.
Total recovery: 15hp now back up to 20

Many thanks for the assistance Gilad :)

With a roar he sliced forward with his mighty axe at one of the orcs facing him

<Orange>OOC:08:08, Today: Shakru rolled 13 using 1d20+9. second attack roll.
08:08, Today: Shakru rolled 24 using 1d20+9. first attack roll.

Will take the 24 to hit

08:12, Today: Shakru rolled 24 using 3d10+7. damage roll.

Total damage 24/Orange>

Sigmund wades into battle with the staggered berserker. His defensive stance makes it hard for him to hit, but he at least maintains a solid position...

Attempt to Rally, fail. Move to engage the staggered berserker, miss. Use Defensive Fighting to ramp my AC up to 21 again.

15:58, Today: Sigmund rolled 12 using 1d20+8. Attack on un-engaged berserker.
15:57, Today: Sigmund rolled 2 using 1d20. Try to Rally again.

(OOC-I am doing my shadow walk attack, but I was going to go after the shaman. I now realize the shaman seems to be dead. As a result I will go after the suriving berseker.

16:49, Today: Vander rolled 5 using 1d6. Sneak attack.
16:48, Today: Vander rolled 15 using 1d20+10. Tumbling Disengage.
16:48, Today: Vander rolled 10 using 1d20+8. Tumbling Shadow walk strike vs Shaman.

16HP damage Shakru.

Now finish them! NB their special power will not activate, once they're dead, they're dead.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Sigmund leaps in front of the blow that would have hit Shakru, dealing a glancing blow to the big human.

Rolled a Skilled Intercept, so Sigmund takes 8 hp and is engaged with the unwounded berserker.

With a roar, Sigmund brings his sword around in a mighty swing, hacking into the unwounded berserker...

Hits AC 20 for 15 hp. Natural even roll, so I trigger Defensive Fighting, keeping my AC at 21 for the moment.
18:48, Today: Sigmund rolled 15 using 2d8+4. Damage.
18:47, Today: Sigmund rolled 20 using 1d20+10. Attack on unwounded guy.

Re: Chapter One: The Hidden Valley
Vethryn rushes to Shakru's side and places a hand on his shoulder.  "Stay strong, Ushug is with you," she says, and he finds himself filled with renewed energy, the pain of his wounds fading.

She swings at the berserker and lands only a glancing blow, but he recoils below the glow of her blade burning with Ushug's fire.

OOC:  Shakru can heal with a +4 bonus to his recovery roll.
2 damage to the unwounded berserker (assuming a 10 misses), +1 to attacks against him until the end of my next turn.

As the berserker recoils from Vethryn's strike, Gilad takes advantage of the momentary distraction, thrusting his blade into the orc's chest.

Going after the same berserker that Vethryn just attacked, for the +1 bonus.

Gilad Rott rolled 26 using 1d20+11 with rolls of 15. Melee Attack.
Gilad Rott rolled 19 using 2d8+5 with rolls of 8,6. Melee Damage.

19 damage. I can also grant someone a recovery on this roll if they need it. Any takers? Sigmund?

The last two berserkers are ruthlessly cut down. In the sudden silence you all hear a hoarse whisper from the smoking body of the shaman, who is evidently still clinging to life.
