Re: Rats in the Walls
"Aye manling it's likely that I can."

Gunnar's eyes narrowed at the talk of mutants and poison.

"Could those be rat tracks Elf? There are stories in the mines below the Ulricschlag..."

He trailed off. Few credited the stories with any truth but there were always those few "mad souls" who swore to what they had seen.

"They may be, I've slain mutated humans of all kinds, I've seen bug-humans, cat-like humans as well as the usual bull-like. How large are these tunnels?" she asks a guard "Will ranged weapons be useless down there? and we will need torches."

Re: Rats in the Walls
Camella attempts to remove the needle from Father Morten's neck and, despite her best attempts and the best equipment she has brought to bear, is unable to preserve the substance upon the end of it.

[Private to Camella Catkins: If you wish to reroll it, I already made the roll in secret. Itchy dice hand :P]

Gunnar's mind seems to work quickly with Aria's question.

[Private to Gunnar Thornbeard: Being familiar with Middenheim and tunnle fighting, you know the tunnels vary. Those in the sewer are meant for small men or dwarves, though halflings find them downright spacious. Elves would have difficulty moving. Torches will be needed for the human and halfling, the two lacking good proper elder race eyesight. As for ranged weapons... some tunnels lead to chambers the size of cathedrals down below. You doubt that the Ancestors would be so kind.]

"Seems there was something on the end of it, but lost it pulling this out. Let me see if I can't get whatever it is out again." Camella states as she attempts to extract whatever is left inside the body from her last attempt.

Re: Rats in the Walls
Camella finds herself able to pull out the needle successfully.

[Private to Camella Catkins: Fortune is on your side. There is some kind of dried green paste at the end of the needle. You would need to go to the alchemist's lab to further investigate it and determine the properties of this poison. If you are careful, you may only need a little bit and be able to reuse this needle.]

"I think I may have found some kind of poison, but won't know that for sure till we can get it looked at." Camella says as she carefully carries it over to the desk before grabbing some parchment and making an envelope to carry the poisonous needle in. "Does this township have a resident Alchemist guild by chance?" Camella asks as she holds the now enveloped needle in hand.

Ariarnhod Andraste:
"How large are these tunnels?" she asks a guard "Will ranged weapons be useless down there? and we will need torches."

Gunnar spoke in the guards stead.

"The watch know there business on the streets above but they know little of the tunnels below."

"Yourself and the boy would find the ceilings low enough to be a hindrance though the Doc would be comfortable enough. As to yer bow there be chambers beneath the Ulricschlagg that even an Elfbow could not shoot across but I feel little confidence that we will find ourselves in any of them. I do have my lantern so there will be light for those who's eyes are not accustomed to the dark."

The dwarf held a hand only a few inches above his own head.

"Can ye follow a trail in such cramped quarters? If so ye be our best chance to catch them what done this murder."

Camella Catkins:
"Does this township have a resident Alchemist guild by chance?"

Gunnar made a face as Camella's question called to mind the dread losses of the last year.

"Despite Archaeon's best efforts this township is the second largest city in the Empire. Unless they were all killed in the seige there be alchemists here.

"Wait." Heinricus said. "You think the murderer went... in there?" He said, leaning over the hole to the sewer, with a look of disdain and worry etched on his face. His stare went from the hole, to his clothes and back to the hole. "I'm not... I mean to say... I shouldn't..." Heinricus knew that his honor and reputation was on the line. He stood up and straighten, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. "I will be a moment..." he said with as much dignity he could muster, "I need to change out of my finery and into something I don't mind getting dirty."

Heinricus gets changed, while Camella checks out the dart. Gunnar and Aria view a bit into the grate.

[Private to Camella Catkins: IT IS WARPSTONE POISON!

OOC: Capitalized so much for emphasis.
]

[Private to Ariarnhod Andraste; Gunnar Thornbeard: The tracks disappear about two feet into the sewer. There's no way of tracking whoever or whatever did this.]

"You lot find anything? Lots of coming and going" sighs the watchman, "I'm getting tired standing here stopping people from coming in. Care to get to the Captain and get on with it?" he asks.

"The tracks lead into the sewer but disappear into your filth" she tells the guard "We need to go into the sewer to see if we can come across a trail of the assassin, it would help if some of you came with us."

"Tracks leading into the sewers? What do you take me for? A Sewer Jack? I thought elves were supposed to have great sight" comments the one guard.

"Hearing! Hearing! Them ears are mighty large" points out the other.

"Ah... that's right... Apologies for not recognizing your freakish skills ma'am" snickers the first guard earning a burst of laughter from the other.

"All seriousness, the Commander can set ya up with some Sewer Jacks. If you ain't doing anything more, we'll be leaving then" states the second guard, starting to move out. He motions to a Priest of Morr who has been standing by to take the corpse.

"Another one..." sighs the Priest, shaking his head.

In reply to Game Master (msg # 95):

"Aye ye can go and be useless somewhere else. We've no need of bad comedy here."

Gunnar smiled his friendliest smile at the watchmen resembling somewhat a crocodile about to eat something tasty.

Once they were gone he turned back to the others.

"I mean no disrespect Elf but I see no need to go further into the sewers. Yer not gonna be able to follow or even find a trail down there even with yer vision. I'd hoped there was a walkway as there are in some places."

"Best we follow Doc's lead on the poison and talk to the Sewer Jacks."

"Warpstone, ground and mixed into with a sticky liquid to form a paste to make a deadly and painful poison. Tell your Commander he has a Skaven infestation in the area, most likely somewhere deep in your sewers." Camella comments after returning from the Alchemist's guild, needle still in it's impromptu envelope.

"I say we wait for these Sewer Jacks that the guard mentioned as none of us know the area very well. In the mean time, is anyone familiar with Skaven?" Camella asks no one in particular wanting to know if they knew anything more than the name of the race of depraved ratmen.

"Just stories heard in the mines. Never seen one of 'em."

Gunnar spits out the window.

"We'll have to talk to the Commander to get in touch with the Sewer Jacks".

You travel back and are immediately seen by Commander Schutzmann.

"I presume you have found something?" he asks with a keen interest. Your excitement must radiate.

"It would appear that you have Skaven sir, we found this needle with warpstone poison on it." Camella states, indicating the envelope before revealing the needle. "In addition to tracks leading into the sewers that the Elf believes only could have come from the ratmen."

Re: Rats in the Walls
"Skaven... I thought as much. You should see these three" states Schutzmann, revealing to you three identical needles.

"This one was found in the neck of a dwarf guarding their version of the College of Engineering" he states, pointing to the first one, "He died two days ago"

"This one was found in the neck of one of our watch outside of said college. He was doing extra hours guard duty for the dwarfs in return for some extra money for his family. We assume he died shortly after the dwarf. His body was handed over to the Priests of Morr" continues the Captain, pointing to the next box in line.

"This one was recovered last night from an unidentified man who was handed over to the Priests of Morr. We have no idea who he is, what he was doing, or any other details. He did, unlike the others, have an empty crossbow in his hands when he died" nods the Captain.

"I think that the Vile Ratmen are planning something. Here is a gold coin for each of you for your efforts so far" states the Captain, handing you each a coin as he speaks, "Please continue this investigation. If you need any help from the Sewer Jacks, flash the warrant I gave you and they'll gladly assist" he nods.

Gunnar ground his teeth. It was no secret that he hoped to one day study at that very same college.

"Sounds as if we need ta go round the College after we speak to the Sewer Jacks."

He looked around at the others.

"I'd like to pick up a few things on the way as well."
