Lord Bryghtwell

quote:
I, Kid_Midnite, hereby state that I am 53 years old, born on the 28th day of April, 1970, and it is legal for me to view adult content in my current place of residence.

Full Name: Caswyn Grandelocke, Lord Bryghtwell
Nickname: Cas, Brighty, “Lord Gold”
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Occupation: business manager (Bryghtwell Futures), heir
Nationality: English
Languages: English, French, Spanish
Current status: Single and employed
Current Residence: Bryghtwell Manor House, London

Overall Appearance: Cas stands at medium height and build. His eyes are sapphire blue and his hair is jet black and well groomed. As is his rather robust mustache. Rather than being merely dressed as his contemporaries, Cas wears the finest of gentleman’s clothes as shown by color, cut, and material. Not one to brandish rings or necklaces, he is none to show off expensive cuff links and tie pins. And of course he is most often seen with his cane and the large sapphire stone (fake?) that adorns its top. He usually offers a friendly smile toward all, but his eyes light up when he is truly pleased. He has a commanding voice, but one that is delivered in a soft spoken manner.

Height: 5 ft 10 in
Weight: 175 lbs
Eye Color: Sapphire Blue
Hair color: Black
Hair Style: Short and stylized
Complexion: Slightly Tan
Body shape: Solid
Distinguishing Marks: Pink star birthmark on inner left wrist
Clothing: Fancy contemporary

Basic Personality: Cas presents himself as a dilettante and a bon vivant for reasons of his own, and hard to find him outside this role. Even then he is naturally a warm and friendly person and an exceptional business manager.

Magic Percentage: Div33/Enc12
Special Skills: Investments, business management, logistics

History: The Grandelocke family consists of a long line of diviners. As a result, they have been able to amass a fortune that is said to rival even the oldest and most established of the nobility. So much so that even though the family has increased its inheritance by dealing in mercantile matters, few would dare openly speak against them. Instead, many have taken advantage of doing business with Bryghtwell Futures, although mainly in secret, to increase their own finances and standing. Some have even gone so far as to give Cas the nickname of “Lord Gold” because it seems that everything he touches turns to gold.

Cas has in fact done well for Bryghtwell Futures. So well that his father has turned over the running of the company to Cas in everything but name only. Cas claims only the title of business manager. It is likely the union of his mother’s emotional engineering skills, as Cas calls them, entwined with the Grandelocke divination dynasty that has made Cas so successful. But rather than flaunt his abilities openly, Cas presents himself in society as a bon vivant with a laissez fair attitude who is happy to coast along on the wealth and hard work of his forebearers.

Family (Living or Deceased?):
Fernanda Treeholme Grandelocke, mother (living)
Reese Grandelocke, father (living)

Short RP: The Social Season was upon them and so it was time for Cas to be seen less in his London offices and more in the company of his peers, those who set the pace for genteel society and all those who would aspire to it. Which suited Cas at the moment, because it meant that he could continue his proffered image of the indulgent party goer. There had been too many of late, the last few years at least, who had placed too much scrutiny on the dealings of Bryghtwell Futures.

Oh, this was no problem for members of the magical societies who were in the know, but certain members of the uninitiated had begun to ask entirely too many questions for everyone’s own good. So Cas had come up with this little ruse, and after gaining the support of his parents, he had implemented it last season. And now it was time again to show off his near devilish ways to those who would gladly drink in such a character.

Not that there weren’t those who had not caught the attention of Cas as well during last season’s festivities. Cassandra Morvell, for instance, whose family were openly captains of industry in regards to the shipping business. And if what Cas had heard held true, Cassandra was even more gifted in the lines of divination than he was himself. Or the French noblewoman, Nour-Imene El Douaihy. Another whose arts of divination were said to be greater than Caswyn’s own.

Not that Cas was interested in the ladies alone, or the subject of divination magic. No, gentleman like Bertrand Darby and Duncan McCullough had also garnered his interest from last season and Cas was eager to find out how they were truly faring outside all the gossip and newspaper articles. Yes, this would be an interesting Season indeed.

Key Phrase: You are not in control of threads.

Lord Bryghtwell

Another quote.

Bertrand Darby:
In reply to Caswyn Grandelocke (msg # 64):

"I do not know how brave Lady Fontaine is but such gossip would surely imply Lady Londonderry to be incapable of preventing such a thing. I very much doubt that to be the case, though perhaps discretion as the better part of valour is a wiser stance to take." He glanced about as if expecting the hostess to have overheard.

If there were signs that something was nagging at Caswyn, Bertrand failed to notice them. He listened with a smile while Lord Grandelocke made his observation. "You are quite right, Lord Grandlocke. Superficial connections are fine in business where all you want is something transactionary. Short term transactions have their place but I am more interested in building long lasting partnerships. Both in business and socially."

He had lifted his glass to to sip his punch when Caswyn glanced towards Lady El Douaihy, apparently to direct his point. Luckily none of the liquid had passed his lips so there was nothing to choke on or spit out. Darby's face did flush however.

“I believe Lady Londonderry would approve of such connections as they are the heart of her purpose for such gatherings. Despite what others may think of how the season is to be manipulated for their benefit.”

"Ah, yes. I would hope that is the case. Of course, being so new to all of this I am wary of presuming too much. You clearly have more experience than I, so I would be interested to know your mind. Do you find yourself pursuing connection in a similar way or do you have an alternative perspective?"

"Ah, yes. I would hope that is the case. Of course, being so new to all of this I am wary of presuming too much. You clearly have more experience than I, so I would be interested to know your mind. Do you find yourself pursuing connection in a similar way or do you have an alternative perspective?"

Caswyn paused to consider his answer. “Friendships.” Cas finally answered. “Friendships are more delicate to cultivate than business acquaintances. Likewise, proper conduct among one’s peers does not exactly equate to friendship. And the matchmaking process is often likened to a business transaction, as are many marriages themselves. I excel at business, I am not so sure that I have the social skills to ascend beyond that, but yes, I would like to try.”

Caswyn was stalled in making any other points as he had quickly taken note that Lady Fontaine and her retinue were on their way toward him. That she was bringing her toadies in tow could only mean one thing, she wanted to bring up a point regarding Cas within the hearing of others.

“Lord Grandelocke,” Agatha began and already Caswyn found her voice grating. “I understand that you had an interesting luncheon meeting this week with Richard Cobden. As a landlord who relies heavily on the tariffs, I cannot fathom why you would wish to meet with someone who is so radically against our kind!”

Caswyn’s reflex was to comment on Lady Fontaine’s unique fashion sense considering that he had noted that she happened to be wearing the exact same dress as Helen Ransome, but rather than mortifying Agatha with the revelation, it might be taken as a slight against Miss Ransome and Cas had no intention of harming that dear lady.

Instead Cas decided to do her the discourtesy of using her given name rather than her title when addressing her. Agatha, it is charming that you have such an interest in my business dealings that you would accept the word of some idle gossip rather than coming to me for confirmation rather than confrontation, but I am happy to reveal that I did indeed have lunch with Mr. Cobden. The nature of our discussion is private however as are most things involving Bryghtwell Futures, so I am not at liberty to make comment. What I can comment on is that I have it on highest recommendation that Lady Londonderry’s punch is in fact exquisite, perhaps you should invest your time into indulging in that.”
