Alias: Vortex
Name: Rey Dumont
Age: 21
Height: 5’11”
Birth Place / Ethnicity:
General Appearance: Rey just misses being 6 feet tall and has a somewhat lean frame. He has sandy brown hair and blue eyes. Rey normally dresses casually in a pair of Levi’s, a T-shirt, and a pair of well worn Converse. Maybe a hoodie, jean or leather jacket if needed. Whatever he can goof around in. Rey’s expression is usually either focused in thought or grinning.
Personality Traits: Rey is the creative type AKA a socially adept geek. He found his niche as a semi-professional student at Superior City Community College, learning to minor in almost everything, with an alleged major in creative writing. Rey loves comic books, roleplaying, science fiction, fantasy, books, movies, television, food, partying, and college girls. His loose lifestyle and learning to game the system has allowed him to make money at such unlikely jobs as tabletop rpg developer, fiction writer, video game tester, online forum moderator, and lifestyle reviewer. Of course, Rey has had to supplement his income in such ways as campus tour guide, food delivery driver, and plasma donor.
Overall, Rey is a friendly, happy-go-lucky kind of guy, but his big downfall is that, so far, he has lacked the kind of focus and ambition that will propel him to success, at anything.
Powers/Special abilities: (no more than 5 minor or 2 major powers/abilities, give limitations or weaknesses where needed)
[li]Aerokinesis: Rey has developed the ability to move, shape, and manipulate air. This ability is limited to the volume of air in a given vicinity. This ability requires concentration. Rey uses this ability as a rough form of telekinesis to move human size and larger objects. It is difficult to focus the force of the air to create smaller bursts to manipulate smaller objects. Rey can use this ability to push himself out of the way as a less agile form of dodging attacks. He can lift himself into the air, but maintaining levitation has proven difficult. Rey has not been able to fly with this ability. At present, the upper limit of this ability is 1500 pounds of material that can be moved.[/li]
[li]Aerokinetic Constructs: This is the ability to make solidified constructs out of the available volume of air. Duration is based on length of concentration. While these constructs can vary in solidity from a gummy type of ooze to nearly the strength of steel, they are rough approximation of objects. Due to the fact that Rey cannot actually see what he is shaping, he has to rely on the “feel” of the differences in air. Rey normally uses this ability to approximate walls of solid air or smaller shields for protection. Rey has also used the ability to surround his fist in hardened air. While this helps provide hard blunt damage much like a lead pipe, it at no strength to his attacks.[/li]

Breakthrough
“I am telling you, Rico. With all of these Breakthroughs appearing on the scene, the time is ripe for a new superhero role playing game. People will be all superhero crazy.”
Rico looked at Rey and shook his head in disbelief. “Yeah, but somebody with a super game already in design will beat you to it. They will probably even rename their supers as Breakthroughs to cash in on the name.” Rico watched as Rey snuck toward the building. “And you actually think the feds are going to help you design your game?”
Rey looked around and tried his best to be stealthy as he moved toward the DVA building. “Not directly. I just need them to answer a few questions on their techniques and procedures, to help add some realistic flavor to my game. And I am going a different route with my design, it will not only include supers but the supernatural as well. You know, bad guys who are vampires and werewolves and stuff. It will be a big seller.”
Rey moved to the back door, hoping to sneak into the break room and question some of the DVA agents off duty, or having a cup of coffee, or whatever. Before he could make it, the door burst open and two DVA agents ran out, stun guns ready, chasing what Rey could only describe as...some kind of creature.
Rey turned to warn Rico, but the creature had already rushed past and knocked Rico to the ground with a swipe of its arm. Rico fell and his head crashed against the asphalt, oozing blood. It looked like he might be unconscious.
“Hey, you freaky bastard!” Rey called out at the same time as the DVA agents pushed past him. “Outta the way, kid!”
The agents fired their stun guns into the creature but it just swirled around, snarled at them, and swatted each one across the parking lot. They had to fly at least fifteen feet into the air until they crashed down against a couple of parked cars there. The creature looked at Rey, its eyes flashing yellow and bared fangs at him like some kind of werewolf.
Rey froze. What the hell was he going to do now?
Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. The creature leaped at Rey with fangs and claws ready to rip him open. Rey wished he could do something. If only he could somehow block the creature. Rey couldn’t see what happened next, but he felt it. It was as if the air in front of him suddenly became solid. Like a wall. An invisible wall of air. But that was impossible. Yet, impossible or not, as soon as the creature leaped, it ran straight into the invisible wall. Rey wished he could toss the creature like it has tossed the DVA agents. Hurt it like it had hurt Rico. Suddenly the solid wall of air became a mighty gust of wind, slamming the creature into the building. Rey watched as it splatted against the wall then slide to the ground as unconscious as Rey’s friend.
Time seemed to return to normal after that. Rey could feel his heart pounding in his chest. The back door flew open again and a ton of DVA agents poured out.
“Son, I think you need to come with us.“
