Josai Taverner, Gnome Divination Wizard

Posting Rate: daily
Character Name: Josai Taverner
Class: Divination Wizard
Race: Forest Gnome

Writing Sample - Josai was the third of four children. His father was a master huntsman and his mother came from a long line of innkeepers. So when Josai was accepted into The Right Honorable Guild of Brewers, Distillers, and Vintners, his family was well pleased. Josai himself was well pleased. For what other craft would allow him to bring such joy to the hearts of others and all the while, dabbling in the arts of magic to formulate the greatest imbibements possible?

It had only been a small mistake. The magic snake venom was supposed to be mostly neutralized by the pixie dust. The distilling of the brandy itself should have taken care of the rest. But instead, one drink of the concoction was enough to throw Josai into a vision of the future. A vision of devastation that showed the gnome himself wondering the streets and ringing a bell of alarm.

Now Josai could not go back to being only a simple, if elegant, brewmaster. No, now he had to spend as much time as possible delving into divinatory magics until he was convinced that the path that lay both behind him and before him brought about the best possible outcome. He would still need to work  for the guild, of course. It was after all his livelihood. And research was expensive. But Josai would also likely need to put himself in the company of those most likely to help him make the right choices. A group of adventurers, no doubt. But which one?

Background - Guild Artisan (Brewers, distillers, and vintners guild)

Gnome 5e Traits
Ability Score Increase: A +2 INT bonus is quite rare. This is perfect for a select few builds and useless for the rest.

Size: A Small size comes with some drawbacks, such as wielding certain weapons and grappling. On the other side, Small creatures are better at hiding and can more easily move around the battlefield.

Speed: 25ft walking speed is lower than the average and will limit your maneuverability on the battlefield.

Darkvision: Darkvision is always great, but its advantage can be ruined if your party members do not also have it.

Gnome Cunning: Advantage on Saving Throws from magical effects that target INT, WIS, and CHA is an amazing ability.
Forest
Forest gnomes get a useful cantrip and DEX to help any build.

Ability Score Increase: +1 DEX is a great way to boost AC.

Natural Illusionist: Minor illusion is a great cantrip. While it may not be a huge damage dealer, it has a ton of utility.

Speak with Small Beasts: Fits right in with a ranger or druid, but typically isn’t that useful.
