New Age of Legends

How to RTJ!

Three things are required to RTJ, a fourth thing is suggested, but not required.

The first two things that are required are a background and traits. A background is the freeform story about who your character is, in as much detail as you wish. History, appearance, mannerisms, fears, hopes, dreams, desires, whatever you want to say about the character.

For traits, we also would like you to list up to six specific traits that are significant to the character in bullet form or a numbered list. So, as an example, the following are traits a person might use for Spider-Man.  This isn't a canon room so no one will be playing him, but Spider-Man is a character we all likely know so the example will be recognizable.

Fraught relationships with family, lovers, and friends.
Superhuman agility.
Superhuman strength.
Psychic "danger sense."
Web-slingers!
Wall walking.

This is simply an example! Another player might decide that Spider-Man's vital traits are more like this:

Danger Sense.
Can do whatever a spider can do.
Proportional strength of a spider.
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.
Brilliant mind.
High-school student.

Further, you could give details, if you want. From the above example, you might decide that something needs elaboration. Such as:

Can do whatever a spider can do. Crawl on walls, shoot webs and walk on webs

The intent is to highlight what is narratively important to the player about the character. These traits will also be used if one chooses in our optional system for conflict resolution, The Droplet.

The third required thing is a quick rundown of things you want in a game and things you do not want in a game.  Anything that is "triggering" for you such as stories involving certain forms of abuse or other behaviors should be included in this section.  Also please post these things in your character details so that people can be aware of your limits in play.

The fourth item which is suggested but not required is a good looking character picture.  We'd prefer the images not to be bigger than 450 X 600 px.  If you need to clip the picture to size, GIMP is an excellent image editing software that is free for download.  If you are having trouble picking out an avatar, other players are often happy to help out with suggestions, as are the staff.  Feel free to use these images in your posts.  The GMs sort of enjoy that kind of thing.  If you don't know how to post images inline, let us know and we're happy to help.

New Age of Legends

Ian Masters AKA Ultramax

Wants/Do Not Wants/Triggers: I don’t really have any triggers. What I want is people to be cool. What I don’t want is people to be uncool. Beyond that I am up for character growth and wherever the story takes us.

Traits:

1. Power Absorption - Due to the energy in which Ian was exposed, he is able to manifest the powers of other metahumans in his presence.
2. Nobody’s Perfect - Ian can only manifest the powers of other metahumans who are within his line of sight. Also, he can only manifest one metahuman ability at a time.
3. Make It Stick - Ian is on a quest to maintain some form of power at all times. The likely solution to this is technology.
4. Right in the Middle - Ian has chosen to base himself in Washington, D.C. This puts him within operating distance of the majority of metahuman groups and individuals.
5. A Blank Canvas - Ian’s destiny is his own blank canvas to paint whatever masterpiece that he might. This means that he will treat every individual based on what he receives from them rather than anyone’s ideological preconceptions.
6. Change It Up - Whenever things start to go in a direction in which Ian is uncomfortable, then it is time to change it up.

Background: Metahumans have the greatest advantage available in life. So if one wants to have the best and be the best, one needs to become a metahuman. This was the premise that Ian Masters set out to prove and believes that he did exactly that. Haunting the internet and every other source of information available, Ian developed a metahuman profile. From there, he selected the one metahuman he believed would be able to transform him. That metahuman was a silver age anti-hero named Doctor Dangerous. Ian was not able to find Doctor Dangerous but he did discover the man’s secret lair and as fate would have it, activated a machine that the missing Dangerous must have been working on because it bathed Ian in a strange form of energy that allowed him to manifest the very metahuman powers that he had been seeking.

Once his transformation was complete, Ian moved to Washington, D.C. in order to be at the very heart of the metahuman community. Then he debuted his costumed persona of Ultramax. Now Ian is ready to see exactly where this ride can take him.

New Age of Legends

“As I have tried to explain, Mister Max, Shinobi Futurist is not a technology development company. We are an NGO, or non-government organization, that functions as a new world think tank.” The receptionist was corporate level attractive with the finest of business clothes, not a hair out of place, and as well spoken as an Ivy League graduate. That her voice flowed like honey was probably another prerequisite of the job.

None of this fazed Ian, who had arrived in his Ultramax persona to try and acquire technology to supplement his power mimicking abilities. As it was, it had been several days since Ian had even encountered a meta human, so there were no powers to mimic, much less a choice of the most desirable ones.

“And as I have tried to explain, Miss Super Model, there is no way that Shinobi provides research consultants regarding meta human activities without having an on site research and development department. It is just not economically feasible. I know for a fact that there are at least four meta humans active in this building right now.”

The last part was a lie, of course. Ian had no way to detect non-active powers or who might possess them. He could only mimic abilities that were actively in operation. Before either could promote their individual arguments further, the small scanner device at the belt of the Ultramax costume began to blast forth.

SPORT Alert! SPORT Alert! All available Strategic Patrol Officer and Rescue Team personnel converge on the following coordinates. Assailant has used advanced weaponry drones to attack and destroy law enforcement vehicles and eliminate officers with extreme prejudice. Be advised this is a combat situation with multiple civilian lives at stake.

“Tell your boss that lives are being lost while they attempt to keep up this charade and that I will be back!” Ultramax raced out the door and left the receptionist to blink uncertainly at his words.

Did they have any idea how embarrassing it was to take an Uber to a supervillain event? Luckily the guy recognized Ultramax and with enough cash incentive was willing to race to the site with all available speed. Once on location, Ultramax hopped from the car and tried to assess the situation. Unfortunately the only weapon he had at his disposal was one that fired rubber bullets and that not even a rifle but a pistol.
