Chapter 10: OOC

It's going to take you guys longer than a day then to figure out how to assemble, setup and effectively use these sensor you want to use then.

Might as well give me a couple more Craft: Electronics rolls while we're at it.

So those double crits really got that sensor system sorted; you'll pretty much have an Aliens-esque sensor array to cover the perimeter of the camp.

Those nether-batteries I'm assuming you have a number of in the electronic gear you brought with you. They are essentially rechargeable, but one of you nether-users will need to charge them periodically. You're not sure of the power draw of the sensors yet, so you'll have to check the batteries regularly at first.

Decision time; you guys want to push ahead into the storm or stop and make a camp early?

I always vote for getting everything ready before a storm, from camping experience, it's just not fun, just get everyone ready, sleep through the storm and break early in the morning to catch up with lost time.

Yeah, definitely set up before storm hits. I'd also recommend setting up camp just before nightfall each evening anyways, rather than doing it in the dark.

Yeah, you guys are stopping before dark as is, with the length of the days it's not hard to get a good amount of travel in.

Can you guys give me survival roll for setting up the camp in a storm resistant way?

For reference you guys are technically in a late winter/early spring climate since you're on the southern hemisphere, but this planet does not have as much axial tilt as Earth so the differences are nearly as extreme. But the storm is more likely to be a winter/spring storm than a typical summer hurricane/typhoon that you may have seen in Ossylia.

I guess if you think you have any other skills that would help in setting up camp to shelter a storm you can rolls those too, just give me the reason why you think it'll help.

The guides will say as a spring storm there could be some sleet or hail, in addition to high winds and rain.

You guys made a pretty solid shelter for the storm, with no real damage to the wagons or equipment. Yuu for sure would be familiar with the impact intense rain storms can have on roadways so he'd be wary of travelling while they were soaked.

You've got quite a few hours before nightfall, so you can let me know if there's anything special you want to do while waiting for Vanyra or if you have a plan to do something the rest of the day.

I think Vanyra would do a fast 30~45min run ahead, she'd move at a very fast pace for this recon so she could cover quite a bit of ground. So she'll return within two hours for sure.

You can give me a Navigate check if you have it to determine the potential impact of this stop and the road condition on your ETA to the base camp area.

I uploaded an area map of where you guys are and the planned route and estimate length, in days. If you go to Game Map link above and then scroll to the bottom and select Map 7 from the dropdown you'll get the map.

The orange line is the planned route and the numbers indicate the day of the journey you've planned to be in that given area.

So your options are to:

a) break camp now and press on; probably the least feasible
b) setup up the full camp now and continue the journey at the usual time tomorrow
c) setup up the full camp now and plan to leave several hours earlier tomorrow, likely just before dawn. This will net your an extra 4~5 hours of travel time, though will likely require a bit longer of a break come midday.

What do you want to do?

Yuu's thoughts, thinking military logistics, option b.
Packing up camp in the dark isn't easy, I can imagine for a lot of these people, it's a first time even camping. Small groups, no biggie, but this is quite a complex train we have, and we're still quite new at it.
Plus, it'll give more time for road to dry with the next day's sun. We could half our usual mid day break, to try to make up lost time, but we're not so delayed that we'd need to take chances.

No idea about the urgency, I assume if we arrive a day later it would also be OK.
I suggest starting to pack when it just gets bright enough, maybe have everyone fed by then, that should be OK, that way we can make up a few hours at least. There are no set camp sites, right? So we can go maybe 2-3 hours longer tomorrow and another 0.5-1 hour longer the next day, then we are on track again.

Yep, Yuu is totally sleeping.

Jan, your move on what Zelpuz is going to do. With the darkness and the tree foliage, branches and stuff he cannot get a good look at whatever these things are, but he knows there are a lot of them.

Does that resemble any sort of animal he knows about, maybe from the preparations when they were looking through the fauna of the area? Is it like a pack of gibbons or so? At what hight are they jumping from tree to tree? How far off the camp are they? And how fast do they move?
And did we have a radio for the watch? And one for us?

Since he can't see them Zelpuz doesn't know what they are, and you guys did not do well on your pre-mission research so it's highly unlikely he would know. You can make a Survival check if you want, but anything less than a natural 20 won't net him anything at this stage.

These things are moving pretty fast, but again it is dark so Zelpuz cannot be sure how fast they are moving.

We'll assume the watch has radios similar to the ones you guys have. The expedition would have a number of such radios.

OK, Zelpuz would radio the other guards to get their attention and warn them, but at the same time, he plans to shoot a fire blast in the middle, not too strong but wide blast with a bang, just to give light to see what's going on and scare off potential animal attacks.
But just to check, what's the layout, where are our animals, are they secured? I don't want to shoot at them and scare them away either? And keep the blast away from our wagons, don't want to repeat the warehouse incident.
