Abby can look for traps.  And will occasionally find them. :)

Arog indicated something similar.  Post 33, above.

Ingwe is also a magic-user, so she will be at the back with Ged.

The New Player's characters will, of course, change this, but how about as a starting place for debate?

I am ok, but a point of concern:  An orc who cares if you spell his name right.   HAHAHHA

Excited to meet some of these players.

OOC: Oops!  Sorry, I'll fix that.

Wulfric rolled his eyes "We'll do better next time, Mugluk."

"He said his name was Murgar." Ramzey whispered

Wulfric whispered back "I know, doofus, but he called me a 'bloody Dwarf'.  Can I let that stand?"

"So, instead of apologizing you're going to taunt him?  That's an interesting way to get things rolling." Ramzey returned.  With a sighed "Fine.  But you owe me for backing your petty snit."

Ramzey called out to Murgar "It's OK, Mulva, we sorted it out now."

OOC: This is all in the OOC.  We can count it toward the IC if you'd like.

12 Int for a half orc means that you do not use your fingers for counting :)

Leave it OOC or the paladin will try to wash my mouth out with holy water.

Okay, getting ready to start, let one more in at the last second.

Curious, are there any informational threads players would like to see added? Something you've seen in another game perhaps, or simply had an idea?

For the characters that are finished with creation, I am going to delete the creation thread on Sunday, unless the players request otherwise.

Hey Abigail, Illrede, Vanv what class(es) did you go (if it's not a secret)? Just for the list :)

I was about to answer and then thought: Hey . . . maybe it would be fun not to reveal.  I'm sure we've all heard the refrain "just because you're a ___ doesn't mean you're the same as all other ____s; but the moment you hear that someone is a ____ everyone automatically knows all about them."

So, if there's no objection -- I think I'll keep it a secret (although some of the returning players may recall).  But if anyone objects, I'll tell.  And you can tell me privately if you prefer.

It's not a big deal; I'm just curious to see how it plays out.

In reply to Abigail (msg # 60):

I think it would be fun to learn what class or skills you have.  In my opinion classes can be not as fun.  Why if you wear plate armour and carry a long sword are you automatically a fighter?  Maybe you are a mage, and haven't figured out armour stops you from casting, or something.

Re: OOC - 5/21/2020

This isn't a criticism, just an observation: I think it is a byproduct of the rigidity of classes in 1st edition.

There is a game called Rolemaster (derisively called "Rollmaster" by some) that has extreme flexibility.  No two mages are the same.  You can't look at a third level rogue and say "your chance to pick a lock is __."  I enjoyed that game because you could come up with a character concept, and then pick the class that best showcased that concept's abilities and weaknesses.

I'm sure there are other systems like that; I'm familiar with a very limited universe of systems. :)

In later editions, it does get a bit out there.  But if it didn't do that, how could they sell more books? :)

Re: OOC - 5/21/2020

I always loved MERP / RM.  It's terrifying.

In D&D you say "Hey!  There are 5 Kobolds over there.  Let's run over and kill them!"

In RM you say "Oh no!  There are 5 Kobolds over there.  Let's wait until we can ambush them or kill them while they're asleep to minimize the risk of us getting maimed or killed in combat!"
