Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Agon had hoped for a discreet entrance, but it was evidently not to be. As much as he disliked combat, there was only one response in this situation : a decisive victory against this threat, ensuring that everyone else would think twice before challenging - or betraying - them.

"Try to avoid collateral damage" he advised his companions, even as arcane energy began gathering around him.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

His companions were still drawing their weapons when Agon blinked out of existence, only to reappear a few yards forward. The path between both groups was emptying fast, people running for cover in confusion.

Ignoring the ruckus the mage stared hard at their enemies, whispering words of arcane power that his magical orb channeled toward the largest giant.

   A frostbolt shot forward.

Move Action : teleport 4 forward (difficult terrain shouldn't be an issue)
Standard Action : Ray of Frost on the Chuul
38 vs Fort ; on hit : 22 cold dmg and slowed UEomNT
No Action : Monster Knowledge Check on the enemies (you can roll for me)
Special Action : if Agon takes a ranged hit this round, he will use Displacement
Status : +2 item bonus to AC and Ref USomNT (amulet property)

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Agon causes a sheen of frost to appear on the chuul, which seems to barely notice, though it gurgles somewhat.

The giant chortles and points at Agon. A thin stream of blackness shoots out and hits Agon in the chest. However, a ward from Agon's cloak pops up and blocks the blast. The giant looks indignant but hangs back and orders the chuul to attack.

The chuul sidles forward...

Chuul -22, slowed until EOAgon'sNT

Agon, you would know that the chuul has reach 3. You can reconsider your positioning based on that fact if you like; otherwise the chuul will be attacking you this round.

Let me know and I'll post its turn.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The chuul, slowly moving forward due to the cramped space, but reaches out with its powerful claws. Agon twists aside as a claw tries to grab and crush his arm, but it still bruises the wizard. The second claw gashes Agon's side, causing him to stumble into a tentacle on the front of the chuul. The tentacle stings Agon and he loses sensation in one of his legs...

Chuul hits Agon twice with a dual claw attack (reach 3). Agon uses Displacement to try to induce a miss, but the chuul still hits. The claws do a total of 37 hp damage, and the chuul gets a secondary attack vs. Fort which hits, leaving Agon immobilized (save ends).

Chuul -22, slowed until EOAgon'sNT

Agon -37, immobilized (save ends), used Displacement

Zog, Harald & Nemeroff are up, followed by Agon!

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

"Baaastard!  Ah'll have ye.  Just wait an' see."

Harald threw himself forward through the rapidly emptying street and slammed his hammer into the body of the beast.  The force of the blow was enough to shunt the massive beast back towards its master.

But Harald was not finished yet!  He quickly followed up the chuul and hit it once more; this time pushing it northwards away from the giant where the beast toppled over onto the nearby bonfire.

"See how ye like them apples" he chortled.

Move: forward slowly to within charge range, avoiding locals if possible.
Standard: Minotaur's Charge vs the chuul.
If it hits (40 vs AC - if that doesn't hit I am out of here!) then he shoves the beast 1 square east and follows up.
Secondary attack 44 vs Fort:
If hit it does no damage but pushes the beast (north) 3 squares and knocks it prone, hopefully on top of the bonfire where it will take another 10 fire damage and ongoing 5 at the start of its turn.

00:41, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 40 using 1d20+29 with rolls of 11. Minotaur Charge vs Chuul.
00:47, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 27 using 3d10+14 with rolls of 4,5,4. damage vs Chuul.
00:48, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 44 using 1d20+28 with rolls of 16. Second attack vs Chuul Fort.

I have moved Harald his move/charge but not the later moves of him and the chuul - just in case!

MIni-update: That does, in fact, hit the chuul and does push it if you want to move the mini. It makes its save versus falling in the fire, though, so you need to move it to somewhere not-dangerous.

Zog raises his hands, and a swirl of wind surges around him. He floats up to the top of one of the nearby walls, perching carefully on it. He then points at the giant and mutters a word. A blast of lightning leaps from his finger and blasts the giant squarely in the middle of the chest.

MOVE: Dominant Winds, fly up to the top of the wall he's on now. Acrobatics roll of 31 if needed.
STANDARD: Elemental Bolt with Learned Boost, miss but use a Benny to re-roll, hits Reflex 44 for 52 hp lightning damage.

Harald sends the MASSIVE chuul flying backwards, landing rather like a turtle on its shell-back. Meanwhile, Zog's lightning blackens the giant's chest and Nemeroff's blow further bothers the giant.

All your attacks hit, though Zog does have to spend that Benny.

Chuul -49

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Agon groaned as the creature's attacks connected, but held his ground. His companions came to his aid, as he knew they would, and the mage focused on the battlefield, ignoring the pain for now.

He waited for an opening, and struck.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

The giant looks deeply alarmed at this turn of events. He shifts to the north and stabs at Nemeroff. A cold sensation fills Nemeroff's lower half as the giant scratches him.

"Beast! Finish him!" screams the giant, and the massive chuul rolls off its back. Its claws fly and Nemeroff ALMOST drops under a flurry of claw attacks...

Giant hits Nemeroff for 14 hp damage, and Nemeroff is immobilized until EOMNT. Chuul takes 10 fire and 5 ongoing from fire, failed its save to avoid fire.

Chuul stands and pounds on Nemeroff. It hits twice, doing extra damage because Nemeroff is immobilized, for a total of 58 hp damage. It then hits with its secondary attack and Nemeroff is immobilized (save ends). It then takes an action point to attack Nemeroff again, hitting once and crating for a total of (gulp) 77 hp damage.

EDIT: An interrupt saves Nemeroff from 32 hp damage, leaving him badly wounded but not down.

NOTE: All terrain that isn't difficult terrain by definition--like the water or rubble--is now normal terrain again.

Giant -102, slowed until EOAgon'sNT
Chuul -82, used AP, slowed until EOAgon's NT, ongoing 5 fire save ends

Nemeroff -137

Agon -37, immobilized (save ends)

All PCs are up!

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Zog, seeing the chuul tearing his new companion apart, grits his teeth. He flies forward and wordlessly raises both hands. Lightning shoots out and blasts both the giant and its pet soundly in the midsection...

MOVE: Dominant Winds, fly to current location.
STANDARD: Elemental Bolt with Elemental Escalation, twin rolls of 41 to hopefully hit both chuul and giant, damage 63 hp to chuul, 64 hp to giant (including vulnerable 3 to my elemental attacks on giant, which I forgot, also renewed this turn 'cos I hit with Elemental Bolt again).

If the giant is bloodied by that, I will take an action point.

Re: Chapter 1: The Land of Betrayal

Harald shot forward in a peculiar crab-like motion, neatly avoiding the chuul’s attempts to grab him.  Once in position he lashed out twice in quick succession, his axe biting deep into the massive beast’s side.

“Come on ma bonny lads, let’s flank this wee beastie an’ dae it some serious damage.”

Harald called out to the others to come and join in to the melee.

Despite all the blows that Nemeroff took, he is still standing on his feet, but unable to move. He then shouts some inspiring words of his own to give him a burst of vitality.

I have used two Bennies. Maybe the last one was enough to hit. If not, Harald only have one MBA to do.

And, the second MBA from Harald has =10 to attack roll, not +9. It's +2 to damages for both attacks.
