Re: Chapter 2: Grasp of the Mantled Citadel

The lich curses in several languages. He utters a word of power and teleports again. He launches a beam of madness with spite at Agon, who is troubling him, but just narrowly misses. His insidious zone of tentacles persists, troubling the party members.

Gromley cries; the lich is immune to being dazed here in his lair, though. Agon hits twice. Harald hits as well. Even with his regeneration, the lich is finally bloodied.

Lich teleports to current location and misses Agon with his stunning ray. He sustains the zone, though, which hits Harald and Agon for 26 force damage and each is restrained (save ends). Nemeroff eludes the tentacles, as does Vali!

ALL PCS are up!

NOTE THE BLUE ZONE ON THE MAP. If you move into it, stop your movement and something happens.
Knowledge checks are not possible on Irfelujhar.

Re: Chapter 2: Grasp of the Mantled Citadel

Gromley makes a dash to the alcove while his awareness moves into position. It once again takes control of the lich's legs-and forces it into the range of his friends weapons.

OOC-
Gromley is in the red alcove, so that should do extra fire damage with his betrayal.
13:52, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 6 using 2d6 with rolls of 1,5.  fire damage.

With a bennie, I should hit the Lich's will again. Forcing him into the new postion, between two PCs-and once again a victum of his own zone.

13:50, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 47 using 1d20+28 with rolls of 19.  Bennie re-roll.
13:50, Today: Gromley Underhill rolled 31 using 1d20+28 with rolls of 3.  Betrayal, 2 psi point.

Zog shakes of the pain and then his face is rapt in anger. "You will pay for that, lich," he growls. He rolls into view of the lich and blasts the caster again, allowing the wind to blow him back a bit as he does.

Move up next to zone, hit Reflex 46 with Elemental Bolt and Elemental Escalation for 63 lightning and I is vulnerable 3 to my attacks until EOMNT. Fly back 1 square as part of attack.

"I've been saving something special for this moment." Agon growled. The purity of this wizard's duel was broken by all the warriors running around, but they gave him the time he needed to invoke something truly special. The air wavered as an invisible beam of force smashed through the dome and pinned Irfelujhar to the ground.

Re: Chapter 2: Grasp of the Mantled Citadel

The lich seems, well, worried. He roars and everyone nearby but Nemeroff is thrown back from the blast. As the rich tries to break free from Agon’s magic, he teleports away and then manages to drag himself out from under the magical force pinning him. He has no snappy line this time.

Gromley hits, Zog hits, Agon hits with Oppressive Force but misses with Hand. Nemeroff gives away free attacks. Harald hits a couple of times. Vali hits a lot.

I’s zone fails to hit him this time, so he is not restrained. He attacks with a close burst 3; he misses Nemeroff but hits Nemeroff, Vali and Agon. Vali and Agon are pushed to current locations and are knocked prone; Harald is pushed as well and has to make a save vs falling prone. He then teleports to his current location, still prone. He makes his save vs. the perms-prone.

ALL PCS are up! Harald, be sure to make your save vs. prone.

NOTE THE PURPLE ZONE ON THE MAP. If you move into it, stop your movement and something happens.

Re: Chapter 2: Grasp of the Mantled Citadel

The lich takes a barrage of blasts and then is yanked back to Harald. As he is struck by Harald, a flash of energy surges from him. Parts of his body start falling off.

"Fools. You have already failed. The ritual is complete. Tiamat's final triumph is imminent. We shall meet again. Prepare..."

At this, he crumbles into a pile of dust.

A subsequent search of the area turns up little more of interest that the party has not found already. Irfelujhar’s personal chambers lack for nothing. A large canopied bed, desks, chairs, couches, and other rich appointments line the walls. They find quite a haul of money--one hundred astral diamonds and a massive chest protected with several warding magics that Agon could probably crack given a day or two.

They also find more copies of the ritual that Irfelujhar has been working on, along with a date entry one thousand years ago when Irfelujhar handed the ritual off to Tiamat.

As the party wraps up their search, a portal of white light appears in thin air, and through it steps the Great and Terrible Bone Witch. However, there is a marked change in her demeanor. Her face is streaked with tears.

"We have failed," she says simply. "Bahamut has been slain by Tiamat. He was reduced to mortal form and then crushed. She has won. For now."

She straightens up. "But there is hope against hope. Return with me to Sigil and meet with the one who sent me, if you would change this fell event somehow."

The goblin sits. "It was the ritual. Tiamat cast the ritual. Took her a thousand years, it seems. But then at the end, Bahamut was turned into a mortal man. She didn't even kill him herself--she sent a dragon who crushed him."

She sobbed. "He was my friend. Not just a divine being. He was my friend. And now...."

She stands again. "The only good news is that we have good help. Can't say the name here, not in a plane of betrayal. Come on. I swear by my beloved Bahamut that this is not another betrayal."

She then moves back into the portal, waving for you to follow just as she disappears.
