Re: OOC #2

This coming weekend is (kind've) a holiday weekend in the US. I will actually be around, mostly, more on Sunday than Saturday. On Monday I'll be offline but back in the saddle Tuesday.

Awww, feel the love :-)

If you do not want to contribute to the current round of skill checks, please say so OOC.

I am going on a retreat this weekend and will be offline from Friday afternoon until Sunday night at earliest.  I may or may not have time to update before Friday afternoon—if I don’t, look for updates Sunday or in worst case Monday.

Re: OOC #2

I'm sorry for the few days of absence. It might hold on for a few more days because we are in the middle of a new heat wave.

Edit : I have seen that we are waiting me so I will try to post from my phone tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

I should add that someone who has already rolled a skill may roll again. It odes NOT have to be someone who hasn't rolled already.

Re: OOC #2

Observation: you have to get from ward to ward to get to your target. You need to avoid attracting too much attention or you end up fighting half the city. You may be epic bad-asses, but you probably wouldn't survive that.

If you don't know what to do, PM me and I'll give you tidbits your character might know that you wouldn't.

Re: OOC #2

Not sure what spells we do have but the other option might be to dimension door over where we want to go with feather fall and invisibility to make a safe landing. How far do we have to be in order to see what kind of wards are up in the area?

Good question--I would allow you all to climb a wall (fairly easy DC 20 Athletics) and make an Arcana check.

Re: OOC #2

So, seems like we've got way too many options here, and no way to know which one is best, or even which ones are workable.

But it seems like they break down into three major categories.  Can I get the GM to give me the pros and cons of each, and then we can take a vote or something?

1) Stealth: Stick to narrow alleys, avoid patrols, get as close as possible by being sneaky.
2) Disguise: We have totally legitimate business in the City of Brass. Definitely not a squad of assassins armed with an artifact.
3) Magic: We're epic level badasses. Use flight, invisibility, extraplanar spaces, and sheer balls to go straight at the Ring of Fire.

In reply to Agon (msg # 898):

Well, my original plan was a combo of 2 and 3. Basically storing you all in a special space while I head in on my own acting as a diplomatic envoy. Then, when there are the fewest about of foes near our target I 'uncork' you all and we attack. It may not work if the guy in question has been warned about me personally, but I could try a magical disguise. Any magic we use can be countered by other magic-but then any plan we do could be countered by other actions.

Re: OOC #2

I'd be happy to provide feedback as your characters, who are Epic-tier experienced and smart, would understand them.

Gromley's plan:
Basically storing you all in a special space while I head in on my own acting as a diplomatic envoy. Then, when there are the fewest about of foes near our target I 'uncork' you all and we attack.

Highest risk, highest reward. You don't even know if you can GET those two extradimensional spaces inside each other. It's never been done. It could kill the people inside instantly unless they were in stasis or the like.

Agon:
1) Stealth: Stick to narrow alleys, avoid patrols, get as close as possible by being sneaky.

This is the most straightforward means for an experienced crew like yours. In metagame terms, think of this as Stealth+Athletics+Acrobatics. Those who can't sneak can climb or balance. Everyone in the party would roll their favorite of those skills. It's also slowest, though nobody--repeat, nobody--put a timetable on this for you.
Agon:
2) Disguise: We have totally legitimate business in the City of Brass. Definitely not a squad of assassins armed with an artifact.

This is a combination of magic, Bluff and Intimidate. This, alone, is a weaker option than Sneaking.

quote:
3) Magic: We're epic level badasses. Use flight, invisibility, extraplanar spaces, and sheer balls to go straight at the Ring of Fire.

Reminder that some of the efreets and all of their commanders are also epic-level badasses. Plus, your best chance at getting at your target is being SUBTLE. Fighting your way through would go badly for you. This is the least logical option as your characters would discuss it.

There is one more option you haven't mentioned:

COMBO of Sneaking + Disguise

This is combination of use of magic (e.g. Sonliin turning himself into a dragon), Bluffing (see Gromley + Zog) and Intimidate (Darratheir) along with a bit of knowledge & perception (Agon + Martha + Harald).

In summary, if you ask me what your characters might come to, I'd say they probably want to test Gromley's approach first in some non-risky way and, if it fails, go with the combo approach rather than something mutually exclusive.

I am not talking about a bag of holding. I have a much superior magic item-a modron toy. People would be safe in there. Or do you mean placing the modron toy in the Lemound's handy chest? Would that cause a bag of holding bomb? The Modron toy is a living space designed to keep people alive. Am I unsure how those two would 'mix'? I think Gromley would know however...maybe from some harsh experience in the past...hehehe.

That's what your characters don't know. And I'm not telling you because you've never heard of anyone trying. :-) Not saying it's impossible. Worst comes to worst you could try putting the toy in the chest and see what happens without putting anyone in first.
