Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Guionne clucks his tongue and shakes his head. "Ah, but there's the flaw in your logic. You just fought a titan. That would mean you are somewhat tired, putting you at a disadvantage.

"I would also suggest that the situation is perhaps worse than it looks. Do not underestimate me. Hand it over, please."

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

"Tired ?" asked the Dragonborn. "You're right, I am tired. Tired of you and your voice. Maybe I will cut your tongue before piercing that hole in your chest."
He then looked at the spear and back at Guionne. "You see, this spear don't want to go with you. So I will do everything I can to fulfill her request."

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Agon was with Darratheir. If Guionne really wanted the Arrow of Fate, he could come and take it. "You want the artifact, and in exchange you'll do what? Let us keep our lives." Agon laughed sarcastically. "After all that we've done on this quest, did you really think we would believe your promises or your threats? This Arrow is Bound for Tiamat, and anyone who stands between us and her."

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

'Give me a break!'

Martha strides forward, straight towards the tiefling and devils, insouchant.

'My boys put that elder titan down like a puppy. You obviously felt you couldn't take it on so waited for them. But they didn't even break a sweat.' She leans up and stands on her tippitoes in order to look the tallest of the devils straight in the eye, while still speaking to the teifling.

She does not blink.

'We are not people. We are a weapon. We are fate. We are the end. We will kill Tiamat. So it is written. The titan was in the way. You are in the way. Our quarrel is not with you. Move aside, or fall. You cannot change the fate of this world. No one can. These words are written in the heavens.'

She does not know where her words are coming from. Agon has not got back to her. Martha's brain is spinning; what is she doing? what is she saying? Somehow, though, she knows it is the Truth.

OOC: took that short rest after all; Cloak of Courage on everyone - you all gain HS worth of thps without spending any.

Harald sighed.

"What's wi' a' the chatter?  Can we no' just kill the bastard an' a' his wee freends?  Ah'm gaggin' for a few pints.  An' the longer Ah stand here, the thirstier Ah get."

He leered at the devils in front of him as if daring them to attack.

"Tell me, why did your boss bother sending you after that last batch was sent back to hell with their tails tucked between their legs like a little puppy?" Sonliin said.

"If it was really important, he would have done it himself. Instead, he would rather use brawn than brains and I think between the lot of you, there is not enough brains here to fill a pixies wine glass. Now being Devils, if you were sure you could whip us, you would not bothered talking and attacked instead. So we know that you fear us, you are even more useless to your master. Go home back to hell. NOW!"

Yep, that's time to roll initiative :-)

If you roll a 41 (modifier +25) or better, go ahead and post your action. Otherwise just post iniatiative.

Note that I haven't added Cloak of Courage to everyone's stats below--I will upon my next update.

Initiative:
A (41)
C (37)
S (35)
G (32)
W (25)
L (16)

Terrain Details:
Illumination:Bright light.
Rocky Cliffs: The majority of the small island consists of a jagged stone outcrop- ping that juts from the sea and surrounds the small area of open sand. Climbing around on the sharp rocks requires a DC 36 Athletics check and is done at one-quar- ter normal speed.
Water: The lagoon water is relatively shallow here but does count as difficult terrain.
Razor-Edged Rocks: The rock pillars sticking out of the lagoon are dangerously sharp. A creature pulled, pushed, or slid into or through a rock pillar square takes 15 damage. Such squares are difficult ter- rain and provide cover as normal pillars.
Storm Surge: Powerful waves, driven by the faltering storm, regularly crash into the small island. At the start of each turn, roll a d6; on a 5 or 6, a particularly energetic wave hits. Creatures within d6 squares of the lagoon’s edge are subject to the following attack: + 26 vs. Reflex; the target is knocked prone and slides 1d6 squares straight into the lagoon.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Darratheir Burnedbear:
"Tired ?" asked the Dragonborn. "You're right, I am tired. Tired of you and your voice. Maybe I will cut your tongue before piercing that hole in your chest."
He then looked at the spear and back at Guionne. "You see, this spear don't want to go with you. So I will do everything I can to fulfill her request."

Zog shrugs at this. "How can one argue with an artifact?"

Martha:
'My boys put that elder titan down like a puppy. You obviously felt you couldn't take it on so waited for them. But they didn't even break a sweat.' She leans up and stands on her tippitoes in order to look the tallest of the devils straight in the eye, while still speaking to the teifling.

Zog smirks at being called 'her boys' by the woman. The temerity.

Martha:
'We are not people. We are a weapon. We are fate. We are the end. We will kill Tiamat. So it is written. The titan was in the way. You are in the way. Our quarrel is not with you. Move aside, or fall. You cannot change the fate of this world. No one can. These words are written in the heavens.'
any</Orange>.

Zog nods. "Couldn't have said it better myself. Prepare to go back to hell." His hands cackle with electricity...

And, of course, wasted a crit.
21:08, Today: Zog the Faceless rolled 37 using 1d20+17 with rolls of 20.  Initiative.

Martha scowls at this waste of time. 'You will not get the bone arrow', she declares, pointing at Guionne across the massed ranks of the enemy.

Dismissal vs Guionne: 42 vs will, he dissapears into interplanar prison and takes -2 or -5 saves vs effect depending on creature type to return. When he reappears, he is dazed eont.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Guionne looks surprised for a split second before he disappears into the ether.

Several cherubic-looking beings fly out from behind where Guionne was and swarm Agon. They all bite at the wizard….

Temps from Martha are reflected below.

All the C’s converge on Agon—they have plenty of movement to move into current position without provoking. All of them hit Agon (ACs 40,38,45,48,48 ) for 15 hp each, or a total of 75 hp.

Agon do you want to apply any interrupts on one or more of the attacks?

NOBODY ELSE ACT YET.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Zog sighs. "Lesson number one." He raises his hand and unleashes a blast of dancing lightning that destroys every devil in range.

He then steps south. "Lesson two." Another blast of dancing lightning; this time the only thing standing is the shock-trooper to the south.

"More lessons forthcoming," he quips.

Static Charge on L1, L13, L14, L17, C2 and C5. I hit enough of them to take them all out, as Static Charge does 2-16 hp on a hit and 26 hp to an adjacent creature. Even if I miss, I take it out.

Then move to step south and AP to do it again. This time I hit all the minions but miss the big guy; the big guy S2 takes 52 damage from two "hits adjacent creature" damage rolls from Static Charge.

21:40, Today: Zog the Faceless rolled 39,33,48,47,32 using 1d20+29,1d20+29,1d20+29,1d20+29,1d20+29 with rolls of 10,4,19,18,3.  AP: StatCharge L20,C3,L18,C4,S2.

As he faces each of the cherub-like devils, Zog feels a split second of compunction about destroying them. The moment passes, though.

All four targeted C's get an interrupt attack on Zog's will; all miss and perish.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

"Oh...why do they never negotiate? You saw me try, right?" He said to the others, and noticed they where ignoring him. He sighed again, and gestured to the south. His friends where drawn to the group-as if their feet where given speed.

Then he circles his pointer finger over his head, and he and all his friends vanish from sight. Although they can all see each other just fine. Stay close-we are cloaked from vision. He mentally sent to his friends.

Then he gestures to the north, and then the south. A portal in spaces opens in the midst of the northern foes. One of the larger devils is sucked into the hole not to return right away-the rest are taken and shot back out, scattered.

He gestures to the south, and fire burns the bodies and minds of those devils who thought themselves safe from the fate of their northern friends.

-Each person hit takes 28 force damage and will teleport 3 spaces away from group. I will keep them in a group, but farther away. Onto the sharp rocks would be nice if possible. As I might have missed a few I will let the GM move the figs as I don't know all defenses in question. In addition S3 is banished until the end of next round, and will return at the end of next turn 5 spaces from Gromley-again, into the sharp rocks. He will also be dazed until the end of his next turn. Not sure if the crit of 16 damage does anything.

South group.
-Mindfire does 23 psi/fire damage-which means fire resistance alone wont stop it. Crit does 23 psi damage...maybe...and any hit target is blind until the end of G's next turn.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

In a flurry of movement, Zog and Gromley eliminate an astonishing number of devils. The ones that remain are troubled—one vanishes from sight, another is teleported atop the sharp rocks nearby. A war devil feels the psychic pain from Gromley’s attack, feeling pain from fire for the first time in ages (thanks to the accompanying psychic punishment0.

Needless to say, the remaining devils are somewhat annoyed by this. Both big war devils in front step up and stabs blindly at where Zog was last seen; the first misses badly, the second gets close.

The shock-troopers then move into position and attack the invisible enemies. The first moves up to three front-liners and swings and bashes madly. He manages to ding Martha in the process. The third of these is gone from the scene; the last one, though, does much better, connecting with Agon, Zog and Sonliin and leaving Agon and Zog reeling.

In the middle of this, Guionne reappears, still looking surprised.

Gromley, I applied your crit damage to the banished S3. S1 takes the rock damage, failing a save to avoid that hazard.

W1 misses Zog. W1 and W2 gang up on Zog and miss.

S1 attacks Darratheir, Harald and Martha; he only manages to hit Martha for 14 hp. A secondary attack on Martha fails. S2 manages to hit his targets—hits Agon for 22 hp, Zog for 23 hp and Sonliin for 23 hp. He also hits Agon (fort 35) and Zog (fort 38) with a secondary attack, leaving Agon and Zog dazed until end of S2’s next turn.

Guionne makes his save on first try. He’s back.

Harald, Agon, Darratheir are up! Remember that you’re invisible if you stay within 3 squares of Gromley, giving you CA on attacks.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Taking profit of the invisibility granted by Gromley, Darratheir unleashed a loud roar that echoed in all the lagoon, bringing fear in many of the devils .
After that, he tried to hit the closest Devil with the Arrow of Fate with the aim of doing as much damage to his foe as possible but the Dragonborn wasn't sure he was able to injure the big Devil as he was still trying to get used to his new spear.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Angry devils tore at Agon's cloak and robe before being blasted away by his team, but it wasn't enough as one of the bigger and uglier ones moved in and hit him deeply. The shock trooper moved to follow up, but Agon was gone. He reappeared next to Guionne.  "I'll make sure you live, so Martha can discuss what happens after you make a deal with a major Evil. But first, Harald's axe has something to say on the topic."

The Agon unleashed some of his most potent magics, crushing the near squad of devils and bouncing them like toys in the hands of a spoiled and angry child. Scaly flesh and horned heads flew into the lagoon, with the war devils impaled on the jagged rocks.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

Harald smiled a broad smile as he watched the enemy hordes cut down like a mowing machine through a cornfield.

"That's it, ma bonny lads.  Just they few big bastards an' we can get tae the drinkin'."

With that he started to move.  An axe to the throat of the large demon was followed by a quick step to flank Guionne
and a backswing to cleave into the traitor's torso.

But it was not enough!  Guionne was one tough cookie and needed some more slicing (and dicing).
A mighty overhead swing cleaved another bit of his body even as it served to revitalize the doughty dwarven warrior.

Re: Chapter 3: Legacy of Io

The devils reel a bit from the party’s assault. They find Guionne fairly difficult to harm, but the others they manage well enough to damage repeatedly.

The last remaining legion devil charges at where Darratheir’s dust is kicking up but fails to hit the dragonborn.

Assume that anything lower than a 40 (or a 38 for Fort) on Guionne misses. All defenss except Fort are higher than that. L5 charges the invisible Darratheir, missing.

Sonliin is up, and once he has gone, Martha is up! Reminder that you are invisible when within 3 squares of Gromley.
