Re: Chapter 5--Test of Fire

The party hammers Bashumgarda, knocking him on his keister, bleeding from several wounds. Though his eyes are dazed for a second, he shakes his head, springs to his feet and deals a series of blows to Harald that cause him more pain than the dwarf has experienced in years! The doughty dwarf remains standing, though. Bashumgarda gives Harald a grim nod of acknowledgment at this accomplishment…

B is bloodied by your barrage. He uses an Encounter power that ends all conditions on him (including weakened and dazed), stands up, then attacks twice, hitting for 13 and critting for 81. He then uses an AP and misses twice, but uses two Bennies to re-roll both, resulting in another hit for 21 hp and a crit for 74. Total of 189 hp on Harald, who is Bloodied!

Agon and Sonliin are up! I am splitting up the controllers’ turns :-)

Terrain Features:
Ceiling: 30 feet high.
Illumination: The City of Brass is brightly lit day and night.
Wall of Fire The wall is 6 squares high and blocks line of sight. The wall’s space is heavily obscured and is difficult terrain. A creature that starts its turn adjacent to the wall takes 10 fire damage. A creature that enters a square of the wall or starts its turn there takes 20 fire damage
Wall of Elemental Stone: The barracks com- plex of the Ring of Fire has been surrounded by a cordon of elemental stone for protection. This rough stone wall is 60 feet high, 10 feet thick, and can be climbed with a DC 19 Athletics check. Any creature that comes into contact with the wall or starts its turn there is pummeled by the wall and subject to an attack: +33 vs. Reflex; 3d8 + 10 damage, and the target falls from the wall and is knocked prone. A creature that falls from the wall takes additional fall- ing damage as normal.
The heroes are free to fly over the wall, but they draw ranged attacks and will be pursued by the ground forces here. The total flying distance from one side of the wall to the other is 130 feet (26 squares).
Rubble These areas of loose scree are difficult terrain. A creature that runs, charges, or makes a double move through rubble must make a DC 20 Acrobatics check or fall prone.
Rubble Pile Fallen rock and debris are piled to a height of 10 feet. A rubble pile must be climbed with a DC 15 Athletics check. Remember, if you have a modifier of +14 or higher, you do NOT have to roll.
Elemental Vent Vents jetting pure elemental energy dot the area before the wall. Any creature that ends its turn adjacent to an elemental vent takes 3d6 + 6 cold, fire, and lightning damage. A creature that enters an elemental vent or starts its turn there takes 3d10 + 10 cold, fire, and lightning damage, and is stunned (save ends).  Each round on initiative count 0, roll a d10 for each elemental vent. On a roll of 10, the vent flares up unpredictably. Any creature adjacent to the vent takes 3d8 + 8 fire damage.
Building: Buildings adjacent to the area are of stone construction and from 30 to 50 feet high.

Bashumgarda roars in anger and frustration as Sonliin actually burns him somehow, but then reels from the mind-blasting effect. He is then ripped and torn by the wizard’s grasping hands…

Everything Sonliin and Agon said occurs! This dude needs more interrupts.

Gormley first sent the healing Power into Harald, and then focused his awareness on the lead Efreeti. Trying to shut down the creatures mind so it will be unable to act.

(Ooc-minor action, revitalizing incantation on H. He can spend a healing surge and gets a healing surge in temp hp.

Then using sudden control with 6 psi.

if hits, B is Dominated until the end of my next turn. )

Re: Chapter 5--Test of Fire

“Thanks Grommy, ma wee pal.  It wisnae needed coz Ah had things well in hand but many thanks onyway."

His wounds still leaking blood the dwarf delved deep into his mighty physique, healing much more of the damage.

With that done he screamed out an incoherent battle cry, swung his battle-axe several times around his head and drove it deep into the flesh of the embattled efreet.

Minor action: Wounded Resurgence: If I am bloodied I can spend a surge, as a minor action, to be restored to my bloodied level (-105)

Standard action: VICTORIOUS SURGE :  +31 vs AC;  Damage 3d10+15
If hit, regain hp = surge value (back to -48)
Reliable; if I miss I do not lose use of this power.

Use this with: UNDYING ENMITY (Encounter)  Free Action
Target: An enemy marked by me or that is marking me.
Effect: I roll an extra D20 for the next attack I make and choose which dice to use (I cannot re-roll either die).  If I am bloodied when I use this power, I use 2 extra D20s instead of 1.

Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 46 using 1d20+31 with rolls of 15.  Undying Emnity; dice 1.
Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 34 using 1d20+31 with rolls of 3.  Undying Emnity dice 2.
Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 39 using 1d20+31 with rolls of 8.  Undying emnity dice 3.
Using Victorious Surge (Daily)(Reliable)
22:05, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 39 using 3d10+15 with rolls of 5,9,10.  Victorious SUrge.

Spend AP to attack again:

Standard: HACK 'n' SLASH: (LEVEL 23)  Standard Action; +31 VS AC;  Damage 4W +20

Martial Mastery: When you spend an action point to take an extra action, you also regain the use of a martial encounter power you have used during this encounter (Regain Minotaur Charge)

Dreadnought Action: Spend AP to attack; gain resist 10 till somnt

22:17, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 48 using 1d20+31 with rolls of 17.  Hack & Slash vs B.
22:17, Today: Harald Gaptooth rolled 43 damage using 4d10+20 with rolls of 1,7,6,9.

Note to GM:
If Bashumgarda hits me I will use this;
Power (Daily - Immediate Interrupt)
Trigger; I am hit by a melee or ranged attack
Effect: The triggering attacker must re-roll the attack and use the second result.  If the attack misses I can teleport 1 square.

Re: Chapter 5--Test of Fire

Bashumgarda had already took so many hit that would have been fatal to any lesser creature that Darratheir hesitated to perform another of his deadly attack. Prefering to keep some strength to fight the big blue dragon, he provided a simple cut of his sword to his foe, hoping it would be enough to end his life.

Going quick and simple on this one because I'm in a hurry and don't have my character sheet at work.

Standard action: Howling Strike - 42 vs AC for 42 damage.
If 42 isn't enough, I used a benny to get a 44.

09:19, Today: Darratheir Burnedbear rolled 42 using 1d20+34 with rolls of 8.  Howling Strike vs Big B.
09:19, Today: Darratheir Burnedbear rolled 36 using 1d20+34 with rolls of 2.  Benny if needed.
09:20, Today: Darratheir Burnedbear rolled 44 using 1d20+34 with rolls of 10.  Benny again.
09:20, Today: Darratheir Burnedbear rolled 42 using 2d12+3d6+20 with rolls of 2,10,4,4,2.  Damage roll.

With a cry, the efreet lord falls before the party. Any other efreets within sight of his battle with the adventurers quickly flee. Word of the fight spreads, but the heroes’ immediate concerns--you must figure out how to open the gate.

Quick skill challenge! Up to 5 PCs can roll skills that will help. Agon automatically succeeds at an Arcana check, so don't roll that; anyone (including Agon) can roll up to one other skill. If you have questions, PM me.

Harald breathed a sigh of relief as the huge efreet dropped, shaking the ground as he did so.  Now to get through the gates!  A quick glance around and Harald could see the concentration on the faces of his friends as they debated, internally, the problem.

But surely there must be a simple way.  The dwarf prodded the corpse of Bashumgarda.  Perhaps there was a ward stone or key of some kind which would allow the beast to enter his own gates with ease.

Bashumgarda was dead. And Darratheir's mind had already focused on his next target. But they first had to figure how to get past this door but he couldn't figure how to help. He could probably not force the door open simply by brute force nor he could climb it and get to the other side.

He looked at his companions, trying to discern if they had an idea and, only if needed, he would try something with brute force.

Martha agreed with Harald that there was likely an easy way to open the gates. If Harald finds the key, then they would need a lock. It would probably be hidden, somewhere at Bashumgarda height. She looks up, standing on the corpses of the fallen soldiers, peering at the wall to find a keyhole.

22:30, Today: Martha rolled 41 using 1d20+27 with rolls of 14.  Perception.

Re: Chapter 5--Test of Fire

Agon makes an important determination: The ceremonial scepter Bashumgarda carries is a magic item that controls the gates and the magical wards locking down the City of Brass.

You also find a +6 Flaming Scimitar, 75 Astral Diamonds and a potion of Recovery!

Sonliin leads several of the others to scour the walls for a sign of where the gate opening might be and finds a symbol that he recognizes from his studies. Martha and Harald then find the appropriate indentation and Gromley activates it using the force of his personality like a good psion.

The blurred haze above the city shatters like glass. A crack of thunder shakes the ground as the dome of force shreds to gray smoke and ash which is torn away quickly by the wind. In the fading echo, a moment of stunned silence hangs. Then with the collective roar of ten-thousand dragons, the battle for the City of Brass begins.

Bahamut enters the gate, a massive platinum figure. He nods at the party and suddenly the party finds themselves in a demi-plane. "Rest here. When you emerge, it will be ten minutes from the time I moved you."

Time for an Extended Rest. Adjust your sheets accordingly.

You notice that Martha is not with you.

Thought he would have preferred to continue fighting, Darratheir accepted to get some rest to be better prepared for what would come next.

Rested as well.

Zog looks a little bewildered by the neutral place, but sits down and swaps stories with any of the others willing to do so.

Yep, long rest.
