There is not much to be found amongst the charred corpses, except for a few cheap weapons. This is why they were attackig the caravan. Who took the leader's sword and shield and axe?

The Adept turned and left, disgusted with Gareth's behavior, which was no better than the Brigands.

Berry isn't helping gather up stuff, but that's due to general laziness not disgust. She is hanging around watching. "So how did you learn your fire magic anyway?"

Hmmm, at some point prior to descending the cliff he will look for a rope or sack or clothing to tie it all together to carry it down. A point he is only likely to realise just prior to attempting to descend.
