Caravan to Al Menir

In reply to Haveron Stormwal (msg # 122):

Haveron does notice that a couple of the mon liveried types seem to know each other, but are acting like they don't, exchanging nods while not making eye contact. He is about to follow one, to see where he goes, and accidentally steps into a mule dropping.

Cursing, and shaking off his leg Haveron's attention was momentarily distracted with the cleaning of his boot "Bloody damn animals" he cursed emphatically. He'd never really felt comfortable in the presence of horses and despite his own father's demands had opted to stay on foot during all engagements they had shared. His siblings had similarly derided him for not having the proper grasp of horse-handling but ultimately were less stern and more forgiving in their treatment of him.

It took a few moments to regain his composure but afterwards he inched himself closer to Shroud and nudged him with a shoulder before pointing out the men who were hiding their alleigance. It seemed like an odd thing to hide from a caravan "See those? he offered quietly.

Shroud notice the people Haveron gestured towards. He then whispers back.

"Not really, too busy noticing the cook's assistant noticing me trying to notice things. Guess we are the outcast in this play. Assume those that did not come with us know each other. Now to find out why they are hiding that fact."

The quartermaster calls a halt, sending a
Runner to the head and tail of the caravan, and the procession comes to an uneven halt.
The kitchen wagons start to set up,and the master at arms directs his few
liveried guards along with all of you to
Form a broad perimeter.

Berry does go to the perimeter, but she does her best to be standing by, and a little behind one of the other guards.

Sorsha walks to a spot on the perimeter and finds a place to hide if she needs too. She watches the guards and away from camp in case there is something screwy going on. She doesn't trust most of these people.

In reply to Shroud (msg # 132):

"This is standard procedure. Food is brought to the guards at their picket, but cookfires are known to attract any who are hungry, likewise, any trying to follow in our path are likely to catch up with us as we pause for food and prayer. The caravan makes four stops per day, twice to cook and shorter stops for prayer, one reason why infidels are hired.

Sorsha rolls her eyes at the idea of peace, nice thought but not likely. "I am tolerant if my kind is tolerated, which I am not always. Tolerance only goes so far"

Haveron glanced around at each member of the conversation and the notion of paradise, deeds and what it meant to be an infidel or holy member of the world. He kept his thoughts quiet and cocked one side of his mouth in a half-grin at the debate.

Sometimes there was weight on a person's shoulders that wasn't always caused by hefting a sword.

After prayer, and then food is distributed to the workers, it is brought to the guards (y'all). Nourishing, and cooked with more spices than you are used to, it is a rice dish with a small amount of lamb meat, flavored with cinnamon, onion and mushroom, searved with fresh flatbread.
