Re: Near the bone gate

When Jareth comes in to check in with Nodwin, he'll pull him aside and quietly say a few words.  He'll be careful to only let Jareth hear him, and subtly block his speech from anyone who could read lips.

"Could you check in with Clarence and see what Lefty had for dinner and breakfast?  This man is missing an eye, and that's the most reasonable cause.  Clarence mentioned to Lefty that he could eat the bodies down in the basement.  I wonder if he couldn't tell the difference between a dead person and a sleeping person?"

Nodwin will then go back and attend to his patient.

Re: Near the bone gate

In reply to Nodwin Zideqick (msg # 899):

The spoder was in the garden area and appears to have ensared a bluejay. It seemed offended when human remains were suggested as food.

The mans eye socket does not have any extra scratches around it, but has traces of an early stage fungal infection around the edges.

First aid covers breaks and wounds. Esoteric healing uses it as a prereq, and can be used to treat disease.

Nodwin will proceed with Esoteric Healing, and then if that doesn't fix the problem he'll use a minor healing.

OOC That might not fix the fungal infection, though, correct?

Mario whispers to Clarence.

"Not to mention that little pet of his.  Based on this list, that little flying eye might be just the sort.  Best we get the stuff for the skiff as quickly as possible."

He holds the list to the light.  "Ummm, what's a bally ladder?"

Re: Near the bone gate

Responding to Nodwin just loudly enough to be overheard by a few Vejovain refugees, "Interesting.  T'e evil cult that used t'ese building did go about blindin an killin any with t'e divine second sight.  Could be a curse, haveta look into that.  Should check your man for any divine potential."

Then much more quietly, "Yeah, I think t'e Yr-go, be at fault here.  I'll check on it."

Jareth joins Nodwin in checking the man's eye and then his good eye and then as Nodwin prays and prepares the divine version of a poultice*, he asks the one-eyed man about his dreams last night.

Then Jareth will get Jocelyn and head back to his apartment.

* However it is that Esoteric Medicine (Holy) works.  For all I know Nodwin will have to sermon the illness out of him.

The esoteric healing is done with incense, blessed scraps of cloth touched to a reliquary, and anointing with oil infused with healing herbs. It can cure the fungal infection.

Nodwin makes a note to himself, he needs to apologize to Clarence the next time he sees him.  Then he concentrates on talking the man down to a calm enough state that he can go see the Hadereum.

Nodwin looks up from the man he has been consoling. "I don't know how far the group has gotten on it's tally.  This man seems to have lost an eye overnight, although I believe we have addressed the problem.  You would have to find out from Mario and the newcomers he has been working with."

OOC Nodwin can't really voice anything in the moment, as I think the man he is consoling is still rather upset.  When he gets the chance...

Re: Near the bone gate

"I have a strong suspicion, Pierre, but I cannot yet be sure yet." Nodwin responds, with a fatherly pat on the man's shoulder.  "If my suspicion does end up being correct, my companions and I will need to work on the problem to resolve it.  It is my belief that Vejovis can guide my hand in this endeavor, but will not act directly."

Since the man is better, Nodwin stands up next to him, and starts to gather his things.  "I have done all I can do here for now.  However, after my work with the Hadereum, we shall see what more can be done here.  For now I recommend that you rest, and let the others worry about the work of the day.  You have had a difficult night, and healing requires time."

OOC As long as everything is in order now, Nodwin will head off to handle his work with the Hadereum.

Re: Near the bone gate

Mario checks that he has both the list of repair materials and the "grocery list", and rereads each list aloud to Jareth to be sure he's gotten each item right.

"I can read well enough, but some of these words are hard.  And what's, uh, aquila regia, anyway?  Sounds like Latin."

Re: Near the bone gate

"Well, let's look around the place a little.  For the basement, it's pretty clear, we need bricks, mortar, and a door or gate, maybe two.  Most of the part we need to work on is up here, though.

"I can't show you all around the inside, there's, uh, a friend of Jareth's staying there now and he's sick -- we're pretty sure it's not plague, but he needs his rest.

"Generally, though, the repairs we need are on the outside, and there's a little work to be done to get this end space ready to act as a shop to sell off stuff we don't need."

Mario will show Benito around, taking care not to lead him near Jareth's room or below street level.

Re: Near the bone gate

In reply to Benito Drake (msg # 920):

There is some need for repairs and reinforcements to the doors (effectively  cheap construction, like most of this block) plastering and whitewashing needs to be done (you have some unskilled labor to assist with that) there needs to be retiling on some of the rooves, and there is a general need for locks.  Several of the rowhouses appear to have some foundation issues as well.  The empty pawnshop needs new locks, and has an upper room, a fortified back room and a front shop space, as well as a small basement that has serious structural issues, as it abuts directly  on the collapsed street one block over.the attached buildings are in very poor shape, despite a very large ogre and other laborers working sto shore them up with posts from the collapsed area.

You need lumber, tiles, plaster, and locks.
