Hey, GM, any chance we can 'grandfather' the Cure Insanity spell over from GURPS 3e Grimoire?  So certain crazy NPCs can be cured (and for the day when Jareth's mind snaps from all the drinkin an starin at Elder Thangs)?

If that's the case, I want to use that as my Wild Talent. Although I would hate to see what I would have to roll under for it to manifest.

If your version of wild talent lets you ignore advantage prereqs, you could cast relieve madness and get some intel. Ypu donot have retention, so while you can do anything, you can't keep it (it would cost 7 points)

Unless they've changed Wild Talent for DFRPG, it always ignores prerequisites (other than, I think, Magery or equivalent).  Retention, however, does not unless you have the "Alternate Path" perk.

Is that a no then on porting over Cure Insanity from 3e Grimoire?

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 863):

That is a no on 3e spells. Wild talent, as listed at 20 points does not remove the need for advantages like magery, retention is +25%. I saw Mancini having a 30pt version, that I am not certain of the origin. Retention comes with the penalty of -4 to skills/spells learned without the prerequisites.  The perk Alternate Path is per spell.

Okay, so we can cure death with a measly* Resurrection, but the only way to cure madness is with a Great Wish?

* In that it's 1/7th the cost of Great Wish.

Nope.

There is.  It's called Great Wish.  Cures almost everything (any disad that is 20 points or less).

Grimaldi:

Nope.  Technically you could research one.

Re: Out of Character 7

I just looked, Restoration restores body parts only, doesn't affect the mind.  The description of Relieve Madness on M92 suggests that for permanent relief, you need Cure Insanity, but that spell doesn't appear in either Healing or Mind Control colleges (at least in Magic 4e), nor does it show in the full spell list in the back of Magic.

Oversight, I'm guessing.  May have been a Cure Insanity or Cure Madness spell that got left out of the book due to space limitations?

I posted a question about this on RPG Stack Exchange; we'll likely have a very good answer in a day or two...

No one knows, or rather those that do aren't talking.

I'd even chip in to try that before using the stone.  Let me go edit my last post...

I'm sure we'd all rather chip in before using the stone...   and now that I know about this option... I'd even rewrite both of my last posts... but I'll refrain out of simplicity sake.

Nodwin would know that Clementia, the goddess of Mercy, has a temple near the temple of Vejovis. The clerics often protest together when the Hadereum is making a public judgement. See the priestess Esmée for details.

Is this wish stone a one time use thing?  Certainly go with the Silver piece if so... if it has x uses, then I am less concerned.

Read your posts and the others on the SJGame forum... interesting, but in my view the rules are general guide lines, while the GM may override any of them to make the story work.   I  have no problem with a Cure Insanity Spell at all.  You need a liver from a large reptile (Lizardman, Wyvern, Dragon etc) , a lotus Flower from the Imperial Palace in Sahud etc. Spell requirements solve the issue.  Need your hand restored, that will be 15 silver Pieces and a matching hand (Left for Left etc.) OR you have two Right Hands ... That will take some explanation everywhere you go....

In reply to Jocelyn Lemru (msg # 875):

I read through the pertinent spells in  Magic, and I am good with Remove Curse taking care of it. I think the reason for the change in 4e (I do miss other 3e spells like Sterilize) was because most insanity is in the form of mental disads that have to be paid off.

The wish stone is a one shot item... the stone needs to be broken to activate... then watch your language over the next minute...

And One Eye is a physical Disad that needs to be paid off, that didn't stop Restoration from being ported over.

I'm of the opinion that it was left out because it needed a rewrite and never got it in time to make the cut.  Frex, neither Restoration, Regeneration, nor Remove Curse care about the cost of the physical (or supernatural for RC) Disad they are fixing, and they never have (not even back in 2e*).  GURPS 3e Grimoire introduced Cure Insanity and Cure Addiction and based their costs off of the cost of the Disad it was fixing, and this was crazy pants stupid.

* I don't have my 1e Fantasy and 1e Magic to check... but IIRC, nothing really changed from magic in 1e Fantasy up through 4e Magic except for spells being added, some rearrangements and some changes here and there in the casting rules.
