Iskander took the opportunity try and pull Xu from the battlefield, but is unable to move him alone, safely. He does, however remain by his side, trying to keep track of the sniper.

Ales somehow managed to parry the ashigaru's attack. "Nice try", he says before pushing his attacker back.

Iskander Hauled Xu to his feet, and put his arm around his shoulder.
"I am Iskander, my friend. I will take you to the inner sanctum, where they can remove the arrow, and get you bandaged. Can you walk? There is a sniper about, and I'm afraid your garb makes you a proper target."

Tanaka moved to do as he said, sword held out in front of him.

In reply to Tanaka Kojimaru (msg # 500):

Tanaka's man collapses.
Chye cleaves the head from his opponent's shoulders, spraying the courtyard with blood.

Chung Wang swings at another opponent, who ducks, eyes wide at the Carnage.

Two of the ashigaru flee back toward the gate, with Numbah Three in hot pursuit.

The sniper must be on a roof outside, and not alone, as two more arrows sail over the wall.

From within the sanctum, a clatter and a Wilhelm scream can be heard from above.

If no more enemies are in striking range, Chye will join Numbah Three Son in his pursuit!
"Bonzaiiiii!!"

Iskander takes Xu to cover within the sanctum, where the other ashigaru had been treated and recovered. "I can treat you here myself, if nobody comes, and we can rejoin the battle together. If we don't drive them off soon, I may need to find a stealthy climber to assist me in a commando raid against their snipers, who are on a roof, opposite the palace."

Chou-Zen,  you can hear Iskander outside.

Tanaka sees two more ashigaru within the walls, including the one who just ducked under Chung Wang's tetsubo.

Outside, there is chaos as the two fleeing men run into the crowd of a dozen fighters, apparently backed up by ninja archers somewhere, and to the rear of the crowd, retreating, are Bresnark and his guard.

Tanaka advances with the other fighters, to drive the invaders from the courtyard.

23:09, Today: Iskander rolled 7 using 3d6.  first aid ~ 13 (+1 w/ kit) = 14.
A veteran of many sea battles, raids, and skirmishes, Iskander was no stranger to arrow wounds. Helping Xu remove his armor, he removed the arrow, and poured soju over the wound, then bandaged him up,with a secure dressing.
"There. That should get you through the fight, anyway."

Xu is secured, Ales is in striking distance,  Chye and Numbah Three burst out of the courtyard, while Chung Wang wards the entrance.

As you head out, three of the dozen men flee, and Bresnark, at the back of the melee, begins to slip away with his man covering his retreat.  There are six men directly between you and him, and there are three others you can bypass.

The archers have not given up yuet, being safe somewhere on the roofs above, and a few arrows fly towards you as you charge, one striking the door, another the lintel, and a third at your feet.

Finishing Xu's dressing, Iskander addresses Chou:
"Tell the Omo, I'm going to track our enemies retreat. They are fleeing, and I shall find out, where!"
Iskander skulked from the sanctum, to the courtyard, climbed over the wall, and from the alleyways, prepared to track the attackers back to their lair...

Seeing the arrows strike, Tanaka has a better idea. He moves back inside the courtyard, and runs for the steps, leading up the ramparts, unslinging his bow as he does so, planning to harass the snipers with return fire.

"Let's fall back inside, Numbah Three Son! We've pushed them out! Let's shoot at them, from the walls!, Their strength is broken, they can't try another assault. Let's not allow them to draw us away!" Chye says, but he won't retreat until he knows his brother in arms agrees, for he won't leave him by himself out there.

Ales, eager to make his way towards Bresnek, or at least inflict some extra damage on the retreating forces, slashed his scimitar at the nearest ashigaru.

The ashigaru falls, as he was wearing only a quilted doublet. Fivemen stand between him , three may be avoided. As Ales is looking to pursue his rival, Chye can see that Ales is at risk.

Iskander stepping out of the alleyway can see that many of the hired mercenaries are still surrounding the gate, and, as his actions take upwards of 30 seconds, Bresnak and his man are not to be seen.

(Not so for Chye and Ales, they are twenty seven seconds earlier)

"Ales! Now isn't the time for settling personal scores!"

Tanaka draws a bead on one of the rooftop archers.

Iskander crosses the yard and begins to scale tne yard.

Chung wWang emerges from the gate, and he and Numbah Three Son each engage an enemy.

Seeing that there are now four of you emerging from the gate, and none who went in appear to be alive, the mood of the remaining mercenaries becomes a bit tepid. Without Bresnark to rein them in, and no other officer present, when Ales, No 3 and Chung smashing their way into the line, a fighting retreat for those close to being engaged, and a full rout for the others begins to happen!
