Re: Cultists by the docks
Mancini interjects graciously. "While Aoife may have put the matter more indelicately that I would, she is essentially correct in the matter. We will need additional funds in order to hire the necessary expertise in order to make our trip to the demonic bookstore convincing and not look like a bunch of uneducated rubes. This, you would agree Plutocrat, serves both the Guild's and the Haedereum's interests to shut this source of chaos down for good without incident."

Mancini paused for a second. " Additionally, we need a way to bring Kalima back from her home plane. Her expertise and fighting skill has proved invaluable already in putting a dent in this vile plot. Perhaps that is why they used the demonic spellstone on her, because we were onto something."

"But think of the Goodwill that would be fostered between your sect and Kalima's if you were to help her return to this plane to help us in this mission. Goodwill, I'm sure the Haedereum will be more than apt to exploit at a later time once an opportune point arises."

Re: Cultists by the docks
"I could see forwarding some funds to hire appropriate assistants for that endeavor. I propose two days standard pay four your group and up to three additional persons, with a $3000 bonus if you bring proof of the permanent closure of the demonic enterprise. Any demonic paraphernalia and writing retrieved for the purpose of destruction would have a bounty paid, depending on the appraisal of the item, of course."

Re: Cultists by the docks
"Alive?!"  Ardenas looks around at the group.  "You do know it's always harder to take someone alive than to just kill him, right?  Harder and more dangerous -- if we hadn't managed to kill that sorcerer when we did, it's a good bet he'd have killed at least a couple of us."  Ardenas gestures at the corpse with the burnt foot, his expression sliding into a scowl.

In reply to Aoife (msg # 692):

"I see. A $4000 bonus then. I don't need them to be intact, omnly alive. We have found that the spirits of demonologists like this sorcerer here are not responsive to summoning. There also must be a mortal involved in the operation, because demons are not able to access our world without being summoned."

Ardenas mutters quietly.  "And how do we know the demons left their summoner alive after they were in this world?"

In full voice, he responds.  "How much does a Resurrection cost these days?  Not for the demonologist, for me or Oly or Norman?"

"Unless bound by powerful magic, a demon can only remain on this plane for hours after their summoner is gone. Exceptions I have heard involve reanimation of the summoner as willful undead, which is as much an abomination to Hades as raising the dead."

Re: Cultists by the docks
"So, we bring you the summoner alive, and the demons he's summoned can stay?  But if we kill him, the demons will be returned to their own plane after a short time.  From here, it looks as if Hades is better served if we kill the summoner."

In reply to Ardenas Barehand (msg # 696):

"What we want is a list of his customers. If he is dead, we cannot compel him to speak, as we might with an executee who was not under contract for damnation. Our ability to interrogate the dead does not expand past those who are on the shores of the Styx. When someone is in the deeper hells, only demonologists may summon their spirits."

Re: Cultists by the docks
Ardenas nods.  "Ah, now I see.  This is the opposite of breaking a smuggling operation -- instead of leaving the small fish swimming so you can follow them back to the big ones, you want to take the big fish and find out who the little ones are."

He frowns, and knits his brow.

"You're going to be even more shorthanded when you have a potentially long list of local demon summoners."

Chugging a few shots of paut has effects that might be more of use if one learned the Elder Futhark...

The pay rate is $120 for 5 250 pt characters, and $60 for one 125 point character (i.e. Norman)
