Mancini is genuinely befuddled on what could have happened to Kalima.

20:28, Today: Mancini rolled 12 using 3d6.  IQ check vs. 9 (penalty of 6).

Re: Cultists by the docks

In reply to Aoife (msg # 642):

From the stone fragments, the assorted "bottle" demons and the disappearance of the celestial, you can ascertain that the Demonologist was using spellstones to store the pre-cast spells Summon Demon and Banishment. In all likelihood, Kalima is now on her home plane of existence.

The question is, who is selling necromantically charged and demonically oriented spellstones. Certainly not Spielgud of the guild!

In reply to Narrator (msg # 643):

"It would seem these were demonically orientated spellstones, the work of a strong necromancer. The guild should be made aware of this, and we would do well to find them. Kalima referred to some demonic trader...if she has been banished to her homeplane as seems to be the case, we should tell those who sent her with us of this. She may wish to return..."

"I completely agree.  Except for the part about demonic spellstones, which I know nothing about."  He reaches into his pouch, and pulls out the green stone.  "I found this on the sorcerer.  Perhaps the Hadereum has some way to trace it back to the demonologist or enchanter who made it."

Re: Cultists by the docks

"I suspected Kalima had been banished but until now, I was unsure of the mechanism in which they accomplished it. Also, we must be causing somebody some issues if they took the trouble to give out trinkets that can banish minor gods back to their realms. I agree we need to inform both the Guild and the Haedereum at once of these troubling developments."

He summons Norman and asks him to bring a representative of the Haedereum there so he can give them an update.

Meanwhile, he sees if any of his contacts in the Guild know anything about these necromatically charged spellstones.

(Ooc:20:18, Today: Mancini rolled 10 using 3d6.  Guild Contact 12- to see if any info on necromatically charged spellstones has come up.)

Mancini gives an appraising eye at Oly. " Yes, he definitely has the look. But, he knows little to.nothing about magic, and that would make him vulnerable to all sorts of trouble. Unknowingly on his part of course."

Mancini sighs. "I just don't like the idea of Oly in there by himself. If he gets hurt, I don't want to have to explain that to the Guild."

Ardenas sighs.

"I'm probably going to regret this, but...

"I should have that 'smell' of magic, since I have a little magic myself.  I could pose as someone looking to expand a limited power.  Like any good lie, that would be partly truth.

"I don't know as much about magic as I'd like, for that situation, but I've had some training in thaumatology -- had to have, in order to be able to learn spells."

"Okay, so me as the seeker, Aoife in, um, bird form?  And someone else in the shape of a bat?  That would leave two people out -- whether that's Mancini and Norman, or one of those and Oly.

"Mind you, I'm not very confident we can take down either a necromancer or a demonologist in their own shop.  And what would we stand to gain by that?"

"We could report this to the Hadereum, and you know, get funded or something. A magical tracking device is bound to cost a little, and since the old purple robes are the ones with a bug in their breeches about demons and cults and whatnot, we should be able to squeeze something out of them. They are probably still down the hall."

"If it's to be bodyguards, that would probably work best with Mancini and Norman.

"Something to find with Seeker magic doesn't have to be magical, just specific enough to positively identify.  Ideally a unique item, like a particular sword with specific runes carved on the quillion, or a ring with a particular inscription inside."

Re: Cultists by the docks

"You mean, choose an item in the shop and follow that item later?  I expect so, as long as it's specific enough.  Of course, if they sell it in the meantime, you'll wind up following the buyer instead of the seller, so ideally it'd be something that's part of the shop or something the keeper wears, like a ring.  Or the keeper directly, but I think the caster would have to have at least seen him.

"Someone who actually knows the spell would know more than I do. I don't have the talent for Knowledge spells, so Master Rethki didn't waste a lot of time beyond the basic principles."
